POE ports are used to give power to WLC here, as if we don't have power supply. AP's are not directly connected to WLC , please make note of this. WLC connected to switch then ap's are connected to switch and assigned the vlan it could be the same switch or different , it depends upon your production or LAB environment.

CT5508 does not support any POE, 2504 POE sockets are for powering AP

Exactly poe are output Poe which means to provide power, wlc 2504 does not have input power
