You’re only a 80 fps short to kill me!
unfortunately my dog did. She was a German shepherd that was old and suffering so I took her out to a place in the woods to put her down. I had my 45 loaded with ball ammo. I shot her point blank in the back of the head and she screamed like i never heard a dog scream. I had to empty the magazine into her. It's one of the worst experiences of my life. After that i have used hyper ammo. If I had used it on her instead of the ball ammo she would have died instantly and not screamed. Though she didn't use the words. she did communicate to me that what i used was unacceptable.

Lack of tactical "peacocking" is what makes this channel great.
*Cough* Garand Thumb *Cough*
So true..buuuut I'd love to see him in SWAT Breacher gear lol
I find a lot of the tactical stuff to be kinda nonsense, people now days with their high speed low drag tactical gear are kinda annoying. Sure it's nice to have stuff that's ergonomic and versatile. Though at a three gun match if there were two guys with equal skill and one had a bone stock AR or some other auto rifle that has a decent optic mounted, and the other had some tactical gear there probably won't really be much difference.
I wouldn't know, the only gun channels I watch are Paul and hickock 45, but I don't doubt your experience for one moment.

would you call it even peacocking at that point? I watch GT, Lucas from Trexarms, Larry Vickers, and Paul Harrell. They all have different experiences but usually are great people to watch, and I love paul to death because he appeals to the average shooter and logic of owning, and using guns in a defense situation, and ammo choices. GT tells me if a plate carrier is good or not, and Lucas tells me how to train myself to be fast in a defense situation.

What a great presentation. I couldn't agree more with point 7. I've preached that for years. RIP, in particular, is horrible ammunition in more than one way. I would also like to mention that while you may be criminally absolved of any wrong doing, you still potentially face civil action. Look at OJ Simpson as an example. Try explaining to a jury in a civil case why you used RIP ammo. You can still be found guilty of wrongful death or even murder in a civil case and thus financially wrecked for life. I would argue civil cases are far worse to endure with the exception that if found guilty you're only facing financial ruin and not the death penalty or life behind bars being Bubb's girlfriend for 40 years.
I've also witnessed, first hand, the "precious" syndrome many times. Please keep these videos coming. Your presentation style is so palatable that 30 minutes seems like 10.

@@randyowens2717 Oh god, we all know someone like this. When I bought my first pistol, I bought a Taurus TH9. It was a good gun at a very good price, and I didn't feel like spending too much of my tax return money on a pistol. So when I was talking to my guys at work, everyone was asking me how well it shot, how much I paid, etc... Except this one guy that almost only shoots Glocks. The first words out of his mouth were "you should've bought a Glock," and true to fanboy form, there was an irrelevant "ya but" to every reason why I bought a cheaper gun instead.
@@JoseARomo-qv5fk tbf, Glock is one of the cheapest standard pistols that people buy new. You know him much better than I ofc, but it might have been more of the "Glock fanboy" problem rather than "spend like I spend money" problem.
@@JoseARomo-qv5fk not knocking your Taurus, but after owning a few pistols and shooting in the Army, Glocks are pretty sweet. Just gotta watch out for slide bite.
@@jamesbecvar6350 Oh I know they're good. I'm by no means a Glock hater. The only reason I associated this person with what the original comment said, is because this guy refuses to accept that a cheaper gun can be good too. My Taurus has been good. I've put almost 1,000 rounds through it and I'm yet to have a malfunction of any kind. As far as I'm concerned, that means it's been every bit as reliable as any gun with a price tag twice as big. I bought a Taurus because I didn't want to spend $400-500 on my first pistol. Had I been willing to spend more, I would've bought an FN FNS 9. The same shop I bought the Taurus from had them new for $450 at the time. I'm a huge fan of FN, but that doesn't keep me from recognizing that a cheaper gun can be good too.

It also holds unlimited criminology books.
Unfortunately, any jacket will work, but only while Paul Harrell is wearing it. Once he takes it off, it becomes like any other normal jacket, and anything he stored in its magical pockets becomes inaccessible to us mere mortals. Legend has it that this is how he hides the bodies of the three dozen men he's killed using 9mm Winchester white box 147 grain jacketed hollow points; if you see little soggy bits of red shit hanging out of his pockets... that's not watermelon.

"I could probably bore you for half an hour just with stories about Joe and the Buscadero Ticondas." No, Paul, you probably couldn't. Especially if you ended each anecdote with "I don't wanna shoot my ticawwwdas". Convulsing with laughter here. Well done, sir.
It is funny but a valid point. Back when I only carried factory ammunition I would rarely fire up to a magazine of my carry ammunition to make sure it functioned and hit to the same POI as my practical ammunition. Well I got disappointed because I never did find that cartridge with that bullet weight in that specific load again and it became too precious to shoot up. By then my confidence in my own handloads had gone up and I switched to carrying my own, which in today’s artificially panic stricken society is the only ammunition I can get in any of 4 Pistol calibers I can carry. I do like a lead ball worked up to tightest group I can get from it.
@@308dad8 I never got into reloading. All the shooters in my area do, but all they care about is saving money on brass with no regard for any precision down range. I could see the appeal of learning to make match-grade precision ammo.
As far as POI, agreed--when I started out a decade ago, I kept having instructors tell me "practice ammo has the same POI, don't waste your carry ammo at the range." For a novice shooter like me, Paul might have phrased it as "with the groups you're shooting, it won't make enough of a difference to make a difference." But I tend to think a lot like Paul about certain things, however, and I won't carry anything I haven't tested until I can trust it. Only after I went through a couple boxes of carry ammo side by side with my practice ammo was I comfortable believing the POI of my practice ammo. I still run a few carry rounds every range trip just to cycle through my storage about annually. (Well, I used to do that. Then 2020 arrived and now ALL bullets are buscadero ticawwwwwndas, and I don't wanna waste 'em. :-D )
That said, my original comment was just that I could listen to Paul tell silly range stories all day. He could not, in fact, bore me--let alone to tears. :)
12:31 - "And yes, when I put it on, you can still see me." This is just one reason I keep watching Paul's videos.

Every time he brings them up I scratch my head wondering what the hell are some people hearing.

Thomas: Are you referring to those that hear his speaking issues or those, like myself, who don't? I haven't been to a range in about a decade and was a stickler for using hearing protection when I was going (heck, whenever I go someplace I know will be loud I bring hearing protection of some sort).

He's well-learned, well-spoken, acknowledges counter-points while sticking to his point, and delivers the information in a manner that holds the listener's attention. All of those things about him will keep me coming back.

Been binge watching your videos since I discovered the channel. I really, really like how you present points. Eloquence and logic, you don't come across as talking down to people. You're a natural educator with a touch of humor to keep it fresh.
Regarding fancy ammo, personally I just carry "basic AF" Remington green/white box .40 S&W 180gr JHP. It goes where I point it and puts holes in things, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg so I have no problems cycling out a magazine of it every time I go to the range; thus my carry ammo is always super fresh, too.
As a retired career Police Officer and Criminal Investigator, hunter, and just an old dude that is prepared to defend myself and The Lovely Bride, as well as innocent bystanders/victims should the need arise....I 100% agree with every point you make in this video. Well done! Well done indeed!!!!
Hi, I'm Jeff and I'm a precious-aholic. I have 25 year old Glazer safety rounds that I always put back in my main mag. I am going to cycle them out immediately! Thanks for setting me straight.
Retired trial lawyer here (but limited criminal experience). I am NEVER impressed by the response to an argument that "I can beat that point in court." As I told my clients bazillions of times, our objective is that you NEVER go to court. You want whatever it is you are doing to be so unobjectionable that no one ever sues you, that the IRS never objects to the deduction, that the regulatory agency never cites you, or you never get arrested.
By the same token, I agree with you absolutely that you want your gun and ammo choices to be "totally ho hum." If I ever have to shoot someone, I want to be "that old fart who shot the burglar with that S&W 9 mil he inherited from his dad with generic ammo. Clearly, he wasn't looking for trouble. Trouble came looking for him."
H. Paul Honsinger HEY! HEY! HEY! Be careful with those old fart comments! I'll sue you for "Defamatory Per se"😀😀😀
Good points, everyone online thinks they are a lawyer. The joke is ultimately on them when they have legal trouble because they didnt have the first clue about anything. Even if they ARE correct in their knowledge about the law, they expect the court system to be a perfectly impartial place with no human element.
I always caution people to think about their "Jury Pool". A gun/ammo combination that would be fine in Topeka, Kansas might send you to prison in San Francisco.
Outstanding observation. In San Francisco, I'd probably shoot lead round nose ammo or something else from the late 1880s, and I'd carry a wheel gun. Assuming that I'd live in that cesspool of left-wing insanity. Which I wouldn't.
Thanks. You'd be amazed at the number of people who insist upon arguing the law with me, even though they have never been within shouting distance of a law school or even done any serious self-study on the subject. It's possible to make yourself an expert on something without formal study, of course. I'm old enough to have gone to court against attorneys who were allowed to take the bar after "reading the law," without a law degree, and some of those old codgers knew the law as well as I did. I'm a published military science fiction author and I never took a class on fiction writing, nor done much in the way of formal study of astronomy or space science. BUT--most "Comment Column Counsel" as I call them think a prescriptive easement is a drug you can buy over the counter.
I can’t agree more with topic #7. Eight years LEO and 20 years Dept of Correction I’ve never had to draw my firearm but I have been involved in a number of various criminal trials up to and including murder. It fascinates me when I watch various videos or read posts in 2A forums as to some of the comments, questions and statements made by individuals that are well spoken but lack necessary training and experience.
Now retired and working armed security I had a new guy, no LEO or Military training report for his first shift. I introduced myself and offered to show him around. His response “I’m tactically trained to identify the threat and take it out.” Now mind you we are working in a hospital. My response “CZcams Video Training Doesn’t Count.”
I really enjoy you videos and respect the fact that unlike most CZcams videos you are keeping it real.
I also worked armed security after my military time. I work in healthcare now but that story really brought back some memories 😂 Security really brings the top and bottom of the barrel together.
You're one of the only firearm channels that never makes me roll my eyes or sigh. Thank you.

I had my carry ammo for about 2 years or so. It was often left in my car as well as carried in hot humid south Florida weather. When I decided you shoot and replace it I was horrified to find the first two rounds in the gun did not fire. Thankfully the other 14 rounds work fine.
Do your self a favor shoot and replace you carry ammo once of even twice a year, especially if you live in a humid or otherwise adverse environments.
Great advice. Shoot off your ammo every 3 months or so. Hence why I bought really cheap hollow points (that work well) in bulk.

Don't ever change we love you
It's funny how some things never change I've run into everything you covered in this video including but not limited to the following. 30 some years ago I got into a fight while legally carrying, the cops asked me(I refused to talk to them but that didn't stop their questions) why are you carrying two revolvers and speed loaders, these gun have been modified haven't they(Magna-Ported, sights, grips, action job), why are you using hollow points(one cop thought HP ammo was "designed to go through a police officers vest" the other thought they exploded. My attorney thought the things I mentioned influenced how my case was handled, it dragged on for 15 months cost me $30,000. I was suspended from college and work(I worked for a security company) and people I thought were friends would not associate with me because " you got arrested for shooting someone they wouldn't do that if you weren't guilty of something". So yes this kind of stuff happens, carry a bone stock gun(if you want one optioned out buy one that comes that way) carry high quality but common ammo and for Crist sake don't have skulls painted on it or dressed up with "tacti-cool crap to make it "look real mean". And remember the police don't know you and they lie incessantly, other than name and address say nothing but "I am invoking my right to remain silent and be represented by an attorney" and stick to that or you will regret it.
This right here is unfortunately the take away that everyone should understand. Name, Address, Lawyer Present, Remain Silent.
The police don't lie, their on your side
Very true , but its not uncommon for LEO to be guilty of the same thing your being accused of. And mentioning attorney I`ve heard some LEO do some serious whailing over some one having CCW insurance I mean like its some kind of crime or something.

What state were you in when the incident occurred, if you don't mind me asking?
I'm new to Paul's channel and I must say that I enjoy his calm demeanor and practical demonstrations, it is breath of fresh air compared to some of the more "amped" up firearms channels.
That's the truth. He just sticks to the facts, which is awesome and his videos are information-dense.
He’s easy to listen to, educated, informed, and best of all, he’s not full of himself. Hats off to you Paul. 🧢
I love his videos and this one makes me feel better about not jumping the hyper bandwagon.
Paul, you are correct. There are certain hyper ammo’s that I specifically buy for specific purposes, specifically gas checked hardcast flat nose ammo for woods carry in my .40 s&w due to superior penetration to a hollow point. But when it comes to standard HD ammo, I buy the standard 50 round Winchester white box 180 grain JHP’s, they expand just as good as any hyper hollow point and penetrate reliably, they never jam, and cost the same for 50 as the hyper ammo does for 20. And if I’m at the range practicing, I buy inexpensive FMJ’s.
Wow color me guilty... This is the same type conversation I had with my friend about how he should stick to his carry 9mm because its what we both go practice with all the time, Since he thought he had to have a minimum .45 for the "stopping power". However never shot his .45 much because cost for him was too high. Now im sitting here thinking im an idiot because I carry "hyper ammo" (also guilty of "precious" and not many rounds tested) and thinking well if it happens I need "Stopping Power. This is why I like your channel make me rethink my own opinions on good practice.
Thomas Beshaw Unless you’re willing to pony up the cost to practice and maintain proficiency with your favorite carry superhero ticonda thingamajigs you should never carry it. This I think is the take home message and I appreciate it !
Hyper ammo sucks because they are like 75 gr. Bullshit 9mm. 45acp plus p is 185gr is hyper ammo
I run Hornady American Gunner 9mm 124 grain +p XTP. It's on the cheaper end for hyper ammo around 60 cents per round so it doesn't have the precious factor to me. I don't really shoot it much, only a couple times a year, but it doesn't work much differently than Winchester white box 124 grain FMJ for me.
No Paul, please I need 30 minutes of you talking about Joe's Tycondas, make it happen
I have 3 different types of .45 right now. I'm going to fire off all others except, for ones I use at the range from now on. Get very good, and shoot only with a single brand, a specific one. Become consistent, and accurate, and stick only with that one. Thank you Paul for sharing this knowledge.
Too much is made of that, the skills you develope at the range do not depend on POI. People must be smarter than that.
Really want to do something productive, start shooting off handed

Me- oh, is it over already?
"Precious" = too expensive to practice with......great point!! I was pondering this lately. Different ammo turns your gun into a different gun. "Never go to war with an unproven gun!"
Personally, my own inexpert opinion is to buy at least 100 more rounds than you want for your carry and changeout right off the get-go, and make sure it friggin' works. If you can't afford that, carry ball. I'd rather have a round that goes off and does somewhat less damage, than a death ray that doesn't actually go bang when I need it to.
Our testing shows that the new M-16 is self-cleaning!
Every fire arm I own has an ammo it shoots best. It's kind of fun figuring that out. Once I get to that point, I practice with it as much as I can. Yes sometimes it's the little more expansive but I"m not talking about the weird stuff. I stay away from the RIP or Zombie Killer type ammo.
@@keithdaniels1994 And conversely, every autoloader has an ammo that totally jams it. That's why I sold my 2 .45's and went back to Ruger wheel guns.
The aimpoint may vary slightly from one brand of ammo to another, but every time I pull the trigger now - it goes bang!
@@keithdaniels1994 Couldn't agree more. I had a .45 that liked some ammo and didn't like others. Some were more accurate and some less so.
I stay away from any ammo that has a name like RIP, or anything that's supposed to sound "ominous". I read an article years ago in a gun magazine written by a defense attorney. He said never use that kind of ammo or a gun that has a name like "devastator" or "pit-bull" because it give the wrong impression in court if you ever have to use it and have to testify. He went on to say, "find out what kind of pistol your local police, sheriff's or state patrol/police carry and use that....it looks better in court. I know what Paul said about criminal profilers etc...but carrying the same weapon and using somewhat the same ammo is a far cry from having "lots" of law enforcement gear, so that would be easier to explain than RIP ammo coming out of a gun named "Enforcer" . And never use reloads (that you loaded yourself) for defense because it could give a jury the impression that you were hoping for the chance to use it and you made a special "batch" just for that occasion. Remember, juries are people who weren't smart enough to get out of jury duty......don't put your freedom in their hands...
