Wow, I love this, and "Whut Up Doe! I'm living in Grand Prairie Texas now, and I really like it here, but Detroit, is ALWAYS home, and home is where my heart is. Detroit is Belle Isle, Motown, Eastern Market, Coney Island restaurants, Corned Beef sandwiches, the Riverwalk, and so much more. That's why I'm not surprised that the NFL Draft had such a great turn out, because Detroit loves the Lions in the "D" and now all over America, it's what we do! Again, thanks for this video Diarra and Jamele ❤

I’m not from the city, but my parents immigrated there from the former Yugoslavia in the 60’s and 70’s. My grandpa used to own most of the Omegas and A Eagles coneys in the city in the 80’s. Coney dogs DO come from New York, but that was in like…. 1910 when Greek immigrants coming through Ellis island tried them and liked them and brought them to Detroit and did them better lol. This is such a good video ❤❤❤

Great Video, and Presentation. The phrase "What up, Doe?", came from a mispronunciation of What up, Though?" Just like us Detroiters say, "Finna Go" instead of Fixing to go, which is also Country. People from Detroit say, Sto(Store), Flo(Floor), Sho(Sure), Mo(More),like our Parents or Grand-Parents with Southern Roots. White Folks used to say "Whore", but Southern, displaced ,Blacks were Country, and pronounced it as "Hoe", but Southerners were really trying to say Whore. Blacks and other Detroiters say Nem and Dem, instead of Them, and we understand each other, it's combination of Southern, Detroit, and Inner-City.

I don't want to say this but I didn't like this video at all. I am from the "D" and (most not all) what was mentioned was ABSOLUTELY WRONG. Hair, food, clothes, and music are correct, but the examples that was given is 95% wrong. For an example: when talking about hair, yes it WAS the hair capital but we rocked waves, finger waves, and permed hair styles like this of Fantasia. Look at this video & this will show how women rocked their hair in Detroit. Weaves and fake hair WAS NOT POPULAR except at hair shows.
    czcams.com/users/shortskluWAVvVGRs?si=1WIqRWuiTjQOxl0U
Clothes that was mentioned (leather and coogi), that was a New York thang. Detroit rocked Guess, Maurie Gators, Cartier glasses, and Pelli Pelle (as she mention). The shopping strip they was referring to was not the spot. Instead it was Kingsway (for the poor), & Northland Mall (Donna Sac, City Slicker, JcPenny, Maxie's or Max Greens, Van Dykes). Food: is absolutely correct BUT, everyone went to Onasis Coney Island which was the original and only restaurant all over the city till individuals bought them all and change the name where they are all different now. Music: OH MY, u ladies don't understand techno music and house music (chuck-chuck, Jit, blow your house down). This was played on fm98 wjlb on the radio live from the club like Legends and plus the New Dance Show played this type of music every show. People please type in "The New Dance Show in Detroit" and look at those old videos and you will see how we used to get down. There are alot of video on CZcams of the show, but try to search for it. It's similar to Soul Train. Here is a link to one of the video. Now I warning everyone, when gets to the 4:00 mark, they about to show you how we get dwn especially the music.

I’m also from the D, grew up on the west side (7 Mile + Asbury Park, Joy + Lauder , Pembroke, between Monica and Prairie). Relax. We just gave a few examples. My momma had finger waves, as well as some of her friends. We mentioned Al Wissam because that was the it thing. And we took Coogis to another level - again, undeniable. We also mentioned Pelle Pelle, so I don’t know what your beef is. And there is a difference between techno and what Detroiters created, which was “ghetto tech.” That stuff they play at the annual techno fest wasn’t the stuff most of us grew up on. I get it. Detroiters are super protective about everything Detroit, but it seems like you didn’t really watch the piece.

      @rawvirus3164 Před měsícem

      @@jemelehill7243
You have mentioned that you is from the west side of Detroit and I’m trying to understand how is that relevant or have any purpose in this conversation. If u was trying to rep ur hood, than I can understand.
AL Wissam was absolutely considered a brand and/or store of choice but it most definitely was not considered the “it thang”. Plus Al Wissam came much much later in the fashion
game. Let me take this opportunity to let you understand what is considered the “it thang”
when it comes to fashion in the “D”. As I have mentioned about the stores Donna Sacs (Pelli Pelle) and City Slickers (Maurie Alligator shoes), these stores sold top notch clothing and custom attire. They was being advertised on the radio and television commercials. In
addition, celebrities such as Steve Harvey, comedian Bernie Mac, comedian and radio show host Ricky Smiley, comedian Mike Epps, singer Keith Washington, NBA basketball
player Isaiah Thomas, Kirk Franklin and more used to not only shop at these stores but radio stations used to go live interviewing these celebrities at these stores. The stores used to shut down to the public so the celebrities can shop by themselves and it caused tremendous traffic jams throughout the area because of so many people coming to these locations trying to take pictures and getting autographs. At City Slickers, you can order a custom
shoe or boots any color you see in the entire world and get it on a 100% real alligator shoe. All the THOUSANDS of color swatches u see at Home Depot, a customer can come in and say I want to have that color (one color to multiple colors) on a shoe. Not to mention u can
custom design it as well and the shoes will be shipped from Italy onced finished, in a couple months. Now that is considered the “it thang”.
You have mentioned about Coogi and I most definitely disagree. Everyone in the world knows that when they hear the term Coogi, they do not associate it with Detroit but rather associated with New York or the rapper Biggie. Let’s for a minute say that you are correct and I am wrong, with that being said if Detroit took Coogi to the next level where is the
Detroitiers rockin Coogi (hats, socks, shoes, boots, jeans and silk shirts). Even though the sweaters was the first items to hit the market, I guarantee you many did not know that Coogi made such items.
You are 100% incorrect about Techno and Ghetto Tec and here is why. Detroit created techno music (Chuck-Chuck), while Chicago created house music (Time for the percolator) and Miami
created bass or booty shaking music (Luke - Shake what your Mama gave you). Ghetto tech is a TERM used by Detroit DJ’s that DESCRIBES all three types of music being played
altogether. Ghetto tech is not a type of music itself but it is only a TERM used to describe. For an example, R&B is a term used to describe a certain type of music but it is not
considered music itself. That is why back in the day when DJ’s made their cassette tapes they put on the front of it "ghetto-tech" to let individuals know that the cassette tape consists
of techno, house, and booty shaking music all into one. It’s just like years ago
when we used to go & purchase cassette tapes or CD’s at Best Buy the store would separate the types of music by R&B, country, rap, gospel sections etc.
Not to sound disrespectful or anything towards you but I believe that you are a little confused about what
is actually techno music. I have added a link to DJ Waxtaxin Dre where he plays only music originated from Detroit. Please start the video at the 4:26 mark. 100% of the music played
to the 26:00 mark is ALL Techno and I 100% know u heard ALL of each song. Remember techno music consist of a wide varieties of different styles but they all are considered
techno music. To help distinguish between all the types of techno music, that wht, blks, & people from countries such as London listened to, many black Detroit DJ decided to label it
with the term ghetto tech so that we know what type of music we are purchasing. When we saw or heard the TERM ghetto tech, we know it’s about to go dwn. When u click the link read the title then while listening, come back and tell me what type of music the Dj said he will be playing from the 5:30 - 5:53 mark. By the way, everyone of u that's not familiar with what I mentioned earlier about Detroit created techno music, then I put (chuck-chuck) in parenthesis, the dj will play that song at the 38:00 mark.
      czcams.com/video/XL4Gt2ztvjI/video.htmlsi=MwYGdCLDDeUrcAaw
Last but not least I want to make sure that you have a clear understanding that no matter what I have written here I mean no disrespect. I notice that one of your comments was you didn't know what my beef was when it came to pelli pelle. I most definitely don't have no beef and don't know why you even brought that up.
