      Hey man I need help...I have a 200amp multi function tig...it's a dc inverter hf model. No matter what amp setting I use it's way too hot...it's loud and is acting like a plasma cutter....it's set on tig...tungsten is sharp...argon is running..no chance...I have gas running very low as when I turn it up it like a gas torch. Please help.

    Every time this happens to me I hear your voice yell TORCH HEIGHT a foot away from me and I immediately reset and it goes away. Priceless training.

    My torch angle is always perfect when I weld on the jig table but when I have to weld standing on my head holding 2 clamps and a flashlight my torch angle is so off I could have used an M9 flamethrower. Need more practice away from my comfort zone I guess.

    Thanks! Just made all of these mistakes just now. First time on a TIG today, I made all of these mistakes, plus I stuck my point into the metal and got it stuck, too little gas... These tips are spot on.

    Every weld test I’ve done has been passed with the lay wire; so yes, there is getting around it. You just have to know how to disperse it. Stacking dimes on tig or mig is like having training wheels; but I will admit there are times they’re preferred.

    Great content. Practical, implementable advice. Particularly the one about amperage. Everybody wants to twist a knob to fix a problem. As an aside: it looks like you might have a little moisture in your argon. Just looking at the extra halo and the ring deformation on the tungsten in a few of the arc shots.

    Good Info there Justin, sometimes the bigger problem is we don't weld on small coupons every day. The jobs we are given can be many different shapes and sizes.
    OK, I have a situation, the material is 3/4" thick "Bizalloy" (quench and tempered steel) tee joint, Pre-heat to 110 deg C, filler rod 2.4mm ER 70 s2, weld size 4mm, Question ; How many Amps do I need.??
    My situation, Machine set at 208 Amps, and using foot control and using most of that. Getting that puddle well established before you get going is paramount, and I'm sorry but sometimes you can't have a 90 degree filler angle, part geometry will not allow it., like welding into a 3 way corner.

    Great vid man, I learn so much from these.
    What would be awesome is a vid on overhead TIG, specifically overhead plug weld. Having a hard time welding in a patch panel, can’t seem to get decent beads.

      Overhead TIG is no different than flat just really awkward to get comfortable. At least that is the case with stainless and carbon

      SDNorm2 I guess I still need some more practice, my overheads look like crap. I’m using the 4T because I haven’t found a good way to use pedal overhead.

    I really love your channel, did start TIG welding Stainless a year ago. I was a professional, but in metal sheet construction, this includes soldering with tin-leadalloy, oxypropane solding- and welding. I educated myself via learning by doing on the job, and after a few months of halfassing I found your channel by chance. Mate... Let me tell you, watching your videos and trying to apply your tips day by day at work lifted me onto a level I couldn't have imagined. Thank you for that Justin!
    Now I have a question, I work with 0.8mm (32 Gauge?) of 304. And it drives me crazy man. With thicker material (1.6mm/16 Gauge and above) your education enabled me to Tig almost colorless, even with little cups. But those paperthin sheets do not comply, no matter which amperage or travel speed, they do oxydate. I think it is because the thin material isn't able to transport the heat away fast enough, but I am not sure. Do you know whats the problem and how to solve it?

    And I thought Justin's filler was literally ballin' as in CP-1 or Hastalloy W.... great tips. I have been a dippin my tip trying to see how close I can get. Well adding filler increases the puddle.

    Just like to mention the the one amp per thousandth of an inch only works well up to about one eighth inch. As you get thicker, you have to reduce the amperage increase. Otherwise, you’ll be using 250 amps on a quarter inch and 500 amps on a half inch, which is ridiculous.

    Funny, After Tig welding for 30 years, I have the exact opposite problem. When I Mig weld (New to me) I try to get in tight and POOOF there goes another young tip.
    Justin, Maybe after this great video you could do the same about Mig??????

    Will using too small a filler wire also cause balling?
    Im having some difficulty with 3mm ally at 120amps, before the filler gets to the puddle it melts away. 1.6mm filler.

    I'm starting to weld with tig now, and I'm not able to weld properly, the electrode burns and turns black and the polarity is right, I'm connecting it to the negative, I'm using 8 liters / minute of pure argon. What can it be? I'm using 45 amps to solder 1.5 mm. Please help me. thanks.

    If 0.13" thickness of steel required 130amp to melt, what about mm calculation? Also, to melt steel, carbon steel, mild steel and stainless steel, does the calculation all same?

    Thanks for everything! My request is for tips on adjusting amperage on the fly (pedal). As an exercise have tried setting to 90A for an 80A weld, then to adjust with the pedal to the right level. So far have not been able to "read the signs" well enough to get as good a weld as if had set to 80A and floored the pedal. Try watching the puddle, try having a sense of how fast / slow am going, try catching a glimpse of the bead behind. Struggle to gauge the right amperage. Should I be able to do this?

    Great information, thank you. Is the 1 amp per 1000th rule for all metals? Is there an upper limit to that rule of thumb? Like if you're welding on 3/8 aluminum would you set your machine at 375?

    My problem is the filler stick in the puddle when i weld stainless . My weld is perfect but it’st frustrating during welding . My setting is furick cup#12
    30 cfh at 50 amp on 16 gauge stainless steel tube with 1/16 318 filler

      Your filler is too large for that amperage. Use .045 filler. You can find it here:
