  • Haikyuu!! has a great cast of characters and all along Haikyuu Season 1, season 2 and season 3, there is a long character arc happening with Tsukishima. This is his story of how he redeemed himself to me as a watcher, to his team mates and to himself.

    The way haikyuu builds characters is phenomenal, each of them has something that makes you sympathize with these characters and from what ive seen this show has the most variety in terms of the favorite character for each person. I personally love yamaguchi because of his trouble with his nerves and just his personality in general

      @reversemade5730 Před 4 lety +104

      Same. He is also my fave because I can really relate to his troubles. The fact he was overshadowed by his peers because he isn't equipped with the right physique, experience and talent for the game and yet he never gives up. He knows he can't exactly win by running with the pace of his teammates, so he has to make his own, striving at pass his own strength while acknowledging his weaknesses and limitations and become a Yamaguchi he never he'd become and not someone else.

    • @emmejay7934
      @emmejay7934 Před 4 lety +20

      I agree.. But there are also times that i think Haikyuu didn't do much development in a character..(i also just realized after a fan pointed it out) And so far, it was kinda evident in Nekoma's Lev.. In the Karasuno vs Nekoma match in the manga, i really felt like Lev was severely overshadowed by everyone in the team.. I know he's still pretty much playing on instinct at that time, but you could just really almost feel like he downgraded instead of improved.. Though the reason of it was brought up in a later match, still, he was kinda out of himself in their match against Karasuno.. But overall, everyone in Haikyuu is lovable and great

    I, not once, have hated Tsukishima. The moment he first appeared, I fell in love with him. His “flaws” are what make him my favourite character. I never even knew people thought of his personality as a bad thing. I never once thought he was bringing others down. I thought he was just being himself, and at the same time not himself. Deep down, I knew he was going through something. I knew he loved volleyball, even if he showed negativity towards the sport. Because if he hated it, then why would he have joined? His passion and feelings toward the sport was different from what the other characters had. I personally like to think he joined volleyball just to get closer to his brother, because as some of you know, he became pretty distant with Akiteru-kun as he grew up. He was crushed. Both of them were. But Tsukishima still joined the club, as if he was looking for answers as to why his brother still played the sport. And his character development just makes things even better.

    I really love this, perfectly explains why kei is one of my favorite characters in the series and incredibly relatable. Worth mentioning though, his brother is also a great character and incredibly relatable despite not being the main focus of the story and having compartively less screentime then kei had. Personally i was never blessed with talent for football but through persistent hard work since i was young and being blessed with a good physique especially for a 14 year old at the time i managed to reach something akin to an ace for a year or two. But like kei's brother once the competetion got better and better i fell short, and also felt the same pain he did lying to my own little brother about it. But despite that just like him, there is something that keeps drawing me to football. I can't and won't stop playing, especially now that i know what it feels like to reach a level i was once at.

    Sibling dynamics can be so interesting and impactful!
    My sister was "the artist of the family" I looked up to her so much in that regard
    She also had the flaw tho, that if I, the younger sibling, picked up and succeeded at something she also did.... She would lose all interest.
    So I never picked up art. It was her thing.
    Then, she applied to artschools and got rejected by every single one
    She never again made art.
    When I moved out I didn't even tell her that I started to find love for drawing.
    Now ive already been 2 1/2 years to an eh artschool and even got into a much more high level one two semesters ago
    I can't imagine not making art anymore and it's so sad to see that the person I used to look up to and admire, completely gave up

      I hope your sister is able to find love for something creative again. If anything, for herself, and not for success/approval.
      At first, (I’m an art school graduate) I only drew because I felt defined by it and identified with it. I mostly only drew for the sake of others though, and now I just feel like I need to draw for myself first before caring about revenue/ contracts/ an audience and what not.

    I'll be honest, when I first started haikyuu I already liked Tsuki cause I love sassy characters. And that's how I thought it was going to be with tsuki, that he was going to be a sassy side character, which I will love to death, but a character that might never get more development and screen time and just be a shallow foil. Let me, I was SHOOK and STOKED as FUCK when season 2 rolled around and you can't even imagine how much I SCREAMED during season 3 because that was MY salty French fry son being a complete mvp and I was just so happy!!
    I know a lot of people had the transition from disliking him to loving him. But I just went from liking his character already to loving him so much like, I WILL die for him.

Tsukishima is one of my absolute favourite characters from the show; I really didn't like him at first but slowly he grew on me as time went on and I ended up becoming super attached to him as his character developed and we got to understand him more. That part in S3 E4 is one of my favourite moments too! It's so incredibly satisfying seeing all the pieces slowly come together through his strategy and then see it all pay off in the end when he blocks Ushijima's attack, and it's amazing seeing that moment when he celebrates as well, hearing him just shout out like that gets me every time. After all this time he finally gets that moment for him, the thing that really gets him hooked and the moment when he realises that he can do so much more than he thought he could and can even stand up to an opponent as powerful as that. Tsukishima's character development is so brilliantly done!

    Tsukkis moment will always be special for me. Because I experienced something like it when I was in school. I was a wrestler, and I was starting to get frustrated with the sport. Then we had a meet with one of our rival schools. The entire meet was tense, everyone wanted to win. And I'm in the heavyweight class so im last, and im sitting there watching us trade wins until its finally my match and we are dead even. This match decides the meet. So me and this other guy face off. Now if you've never seen real wrestling you know that the lighter guys put on blazing fast matches of pure technique and reaction time, but when you get to the heavy weights it's all about power. We each get a point on one another but neither of us can get a pin. Everything else falls away except the pounding in my ears, my opponent, and the matt. The whistle goes for the third round and we're fighting hard, and I manage to scrape a near fall to tie up the points at the very end. So we go into overtime, but I'm so focused I dont even realize that we've already wrestled 3 rounds. I cant even feel the tiredness in my limbs.
    The whistle blows and we grapple, and at the last moment I finally get that one takedown needed to win, and before they can even blow the whistle I roll him up for a pin.
    Then I take the headgear off and I hear that my entire team has been cheering their heads off for me and I feel absolutely on top of the world. And that was when I fell in love with wrestling

    Yesss i love thissssss. I started to love Tsukki in season 2, and what he thought Is very relatable. Why try so hard to get something when it could be gone in an instant? Bokuto helped him with this talking about his special moment. It’s why his brother kept playing. He was an ace in middle school, and he loved the feeling. Tsukki had his own special moment when he blocked Ushijima, and you can tell that his own mood completely changed. He stayed strategic and kept fighting even after he got hurt
    . And that’s why he’s my favorite character. Also, he’s a savage

    As a setter the mythical moment is a very real thing. Because even though I am not the one hitting the ball there are plays that just feel perfect and everyone comes in running and screaming for. For a while I played as a right side (who didn’t get set often) and the one time I got to score two points in a row and just the unexpected moments from players are what are the most exciting, but also had clearly plenty of build up and hard work behind them. It really is true that when you have one mythical moment you just want to keep playing. Every time I watch haikyuu it makes me so so hyped up to play volleyball.

    I've been reading/watching Haikyuu for years and Tsukishima was always my favorite character on Karasuno's team. I always suspected his harsh exterior was a defense mechanism for some kind of childhood trauma/low self esteem issue, and when we got to see his backstory involving his older brother, it really clicked into place. He was disilusioned by the idea that people can succeed in their dreams, and convinced himself that trying hard at something without reservations couldn't be anything but an embarrassing waste of time.
    Still, it was interesting to see him remain on the team for whatever unknown motive he had. Was it because it came easily to him due to his height? Because he was bored? Perhaps he just liked to feel superior by beating others in a sport he didn't even care about? Discovering the real reason behind his actions was immensely gratifying and only further solidified my love for the character. It was worth the wait to see Tsukki's world regain all the color and passion that it had lost along the way.
    Thank you for reminding me of it with your video :)
