- In this video we discuss Diablosport and the pros and cons of using this system. There are many problems when using this device and can lock the PCM and cause critical errors. This was tried on a RAM 1500 HEMI with 8 speed ZF transmission and the tune would fail repeatedly. The PCM needed to be refreshed back to stock in order to remove the tune from the vehicle. We are have since switched to HP Tuners

Thanks for that unbiased vid. I had the same issue with SCT and the tuner for my 04 Merc. Once the tuner wasn’t the newest model, it suddenly “wasn’t supported” anymore. Thanks again brother.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with this issue. Thought this was only my truck. Have a 2014 sport 8 speed. Daily driver. Have both sct and superchips tuner, sct will just fail but not lock my pcm, the superchips locked up my pcm. On the phone with tech for a long time. Had to send the pcm and tuner away for my truck to be up and running again. Being here in Canada it took 3 weeks to have my daily driver up and running again. Extremely inconvenient.
Hey John, Thank you for the feedback. I got a Bully Dog for my 18 and found they only have support up until the 2017 Ram. I was going to pivck up the i3 with the unlocked PCM. I hope it doesn't give me issues like it did for your 14. Take care and stay safe!

Your the man John.....love watching your videos....I have a 2017 Ram 1500....just starting the mod process...I have done the AFE Momentum cold air intake....AFE throttle body spacer....swapped the stock muffler for a Flowmaster Outlaw...(which I love the sound by the way)...next I seriously want to put on the JBA shorty headers and do true dual exhaust and scrap that crappie stock Y-pipe....anyways all your videos make it possible for handy guys to achieve....keep up the great work🤘

Completely agree with you. Had similar issues with their i3 on a GM truck. They couldn't figure out and I eventually moved on.
Glad I came across your video. I’m gonna need a new PCM bc the voltage regulator is not working anymore to activate the alternator to charge, so I was gonna go ahead and just go all in on new PCM and tuner from Diablo but I’m gonna look into HP now

I have two of the Diablo Predator 1 tuner for two different types of diesel manufacturer. I also feel the same Diablo Sports left out the people who have the tuners, move their attention to newer vehicles and left older tuners with no more updates.
I purchased the D3 tuner for my 2014 Ram clutch fan delete, to set the temp from 220f to 190f and found out that it didn't to the temp only AC so I got a tuner that I can't use thanks to John. I also got a hold of Diablo and didn't get anywhere wasted a lot of time and money.

I've got a 14 Ram 4x4 hemi 8 speed. Does HP tuners have the option to remove the mds for the hemi? Mds might not be what it's called, pretty much the mds deactivates 4 of the 8 cylinders, putting it in eco mode. Which with a custom exhaust sounds horrible.
I believe you I bought an 06 Chrysler 300 c 5.7 hemi with the Diablo sport predator and once I tried to retune it after 4 months I started to get limp mode and random shut offs my friend also with his 06 charger with the 5.7

i went with the 8246 i3 for the 17-18 and 19 silverado legacy. not the new 19 body. Can tune was alright, but I went with a custom tune from lewis at diablew tuning. night and day diff. so happy.

so with the i2 you can turn off mds and throttle body response and does that count as a tune. i have 2014 6 speed and want to do a normal tune cuz truck is stock

Yeah they need to come up with better solutions than disable people's vehicle. I gave up

Sorry you had that issue. I went with the DCX 2 times with no issues with my 2014 8 speed. It must be a hit or miss issue, but glad you found a winner for your truck.
Yeah the DCX they didn't offer the transmission tuning option for the 8 speed so you probably won't experience all these headaches!
BoostedMotorsports my Jay Greene email tune did make it shift a lot harder, so I saved that tune for the track.

Been using diablosport in my 300c never had a problem a makes a shit ton more HP than stock. Had it on for at least 6-7 years without a single problem. Diablosport is going in my 2019 vette also! Cant wait to get it!
Its an older vehicle; there is lot of support for it since they have recently changed their business practice. The person in this video is 100% correct. You and I are one of the lucky ones. I honestly don't recommend D-S anymore. I have heard good things on bama; but not too sure i'll jump ship yet.
Something happening I don't know what's going on with my 300 C we did the Diablo sport in tune When I get in the 3rd gear sometimes it wont-work and I have to shut the whole car down in restart it.

2015 and newer can't be tuned with a tuner. The PCM has to be flashed or something like a pulsar.
So in your opinion for the ‘14 ram, what’s the best tuner if you are just going for fuel economy and HP gain without any transmission running?

Hey bro I just got a Chrysler 300s it's a 5speed 5.7 the only thing I would like to change is the MDS AND SPEED LIMITER car tops out at 120mph and the MDS it's just annoying lol would the Diablo i2 would be a good purchase or will it f up the computer.

so I thought I found a deal and I bought a USED Diablosport i1000 intune, the very first model I believe, on OfferUp for $200 bc the seller said it wasn’t mothered to his vehicle anymore come to find out when I tried it on my Ram, it kept saying “no licenses available”. So I did some research and apparently I have to get the tuner reset by diablosport for $179. Is it even worth it at this point? Seeing as how for the first model you have to physically plug it in a computer and find all the update files yourself. I have a 6 speed 2012 Ram.
Yeah you definitely have to be careful buying these used. I double triple checked both of mine were unmarried before selling them but others may be misleading. I personally wouldn't spend the $179 cause the i1000 is the older model and you can usually find a used unmarried i2 for around $200-$240 which has better support and functions.

I still have the original Predators on my 09 Ram and 07 Bee. I bought the InTune for my GCSRT, but the screen stopped working...apparently it was a known problem with them.....upgraded to the I3 finally and hit up their customer service to see if the software was the same since I already had a custom tune on the Jeep. The first guy had me copy the files (factory files) and email them to him, no response after almost 2 months.....so I did another ticket calling the guy out and the girl responded right away that everything would work with no issues. I've personally never had any tuning issues, but I know others have.....much like anything else in this world, it's hit or miss.
So if using just the canned tune, does it work? Did yours lock up from trying to custom tune it?
I just bought the predator 2 for my 2013 5.7 and just stopped doing it after watching this video. You got me scared. Did research but didn't see anything bad until I saw your video.
This was just with a canned tune but I don’t think the predator will attempt to tune the transmission so you probably won’t have an issue. Check out the comments here though it’s pretty common

Thanks brother! You should be ok but its just a bit annoying for those of us that are having issues. There are a lot of people running these no problem but there is also a lot of silence on the glitches and problems too. I think the solution is for people to be more vocal about the problems so that the company addresses it. I always try to keep it real for you guys and let you know if something works or not cause the last thing I want anyone to do is waste their hard earned money! 🤘
Great video thanks for the honest truth. I do have a question, I have a 2017 rebel with the 5.7L and 8 speed. I was debating on getting the pulsar I don’t get into bitty gritty tuning, I’m just wanting to open it up a bit and possibly gain a mpg or 2. Do you know of any issues with the pulsar?
Jason Taylor I just sent my pulsar back after using it for a week. At low speed it would constantly try to up shift and down shift. Wouldn’t hold a gear.

6 speed Diablosport will work but HP tuners is your other option. Diablosport is more user friendly but seems to be plagued with weird issues that they don't seem to eager to fix...

Which kind of Diablo tuner would u recommend for turn off MDS system in a 2012 ram 1500, I did a new cam ( stock cam) and new lifters (non MDS) but MDS still coming up in the dashboard as ECO mode , I would preciatte any information thanks 🙏
It will, eco mode is not directly tied to MDS coming on. ECO light still comes up when driving economically, even with MDS disabled

Mitch - Datway i have a 05 magnum 5.7 it got more responsive you can actually feel it. I turned mds off it gives you a lil bit less mpg but hey its a hemi right might as well used it how its intended to use. I also did the transmission shiftness with the 91 cold air intake tune and i use 93 octane since here in chicago they dont have 91 octane

@@BoostedMotorsports welp I hav a 2016 challenger & I forgot about the locked pcm. And I don't wanna void my warranty yet. Even if I got a new unlocked PCM I heard the car still has the codes that will void warranty. It sucks. I don't blame diablo, I jus hate how the manufacturer locked the pcm

What good tuner can I use for my 2010 dodge ram 5 speed hemi?
Switched to HP Tuners with their new MPVI2 unit and its been working great! You can tune a ton of other vehicles and brands with it too so that part is cool also!
I never got completely locked out but have had issues where a tune failed with my diablo sport. I also after an ECM update from FCA don’t seem to have any engines tunes and only trans tune. I have 2014 Ram with 8 speed too. Originally I had engine tune and no trans tune and most recently I have no engine tunes and only trans tune.
Yeah thats why I'm not taking my truck in for that cruise control recall I don't want them messing with my PCM

Hi John whats up. I got a DiabloSport tuner and I send it back it didn't work for me. So I looked at the HP tuner and got on there website everything looked good a lot of people on it talking about tunes and selling tunes But when I looked at the hole programming and perimeters it was a little to much to learn and a lot of people on there that where asking questions about this and that because they where having problems with there tune that they installed. I have a 2014 Ram 5.7 2WD I did a lot of things that you where taking about in your videos like EV, Cold air intake, shorty headers, and so on it's been a good truck so far. They sure seem like a hit or miss, I bought the tuner for my 2014 8 speed and it didn’t work. For $500+ you’d think they could at least update the tuner before they ship it. Anyways I “update” the tuner and it kept saying vehicle isn’t supported. Not to mention it would keep freezing. I just bought the new diablo sport tuner with the unlocked pcm through moes performance but I’ll be getting a custom tune from Jay Greene. Can’t wait to get it! Hope it works smoothly.

I got an i3 for my 12 ram 5.7 6 speed auto. I've really questioned if it shuts off the mds like they say it does. Still have the eco light on the dash.
Do you like it? I'm pretty sure eco and mds are unrelated. Eco is just when you are getting peak mi.
. Im considering the tuner for a daily driver. How is the trans tune? Not a big fan of stock tune.
I have a 05 GMC, its supposed to work great on older shit like mine. Its a 5.3 295 horse which is fine as is, im just worried about my trans and rear diff. I don't know if it can handle it

I just had a custom tune by Jay Greene and uses the Diablo as a host. I can not tell you in enough words how he transformed my truck to a wicked beast! And now the transmission shifts like a muscle car and squeals the tires when it hits second. You need to check him out! Then ask him about his low 10 second Ram. Great guy!

Had a local tuner say use HP Tuners and did not like the restrictions with Diablo...that said I believed him but needed another opinion..yours settled the decision...

I just got a 2012 challenger rt manual...got the diablo sport i3. Everyone said the 93 octane tune was great. After several hours of updating the software when I finally got to upload a tune it only offered the 91 octane tune. Drove it and couldn't feel anything different. Uninstalled it and sent it back. Not worth the $450.

2011 Jeep Rubicon automatic. I can’t update my diablo Ripp tune or download the tune to my Jeep. Computer says update complete but the tuner says it failed. I might be jumping ship too lol
One thing you need to do is make sure there’s no trouble codes first. That tends to mess with things while downloading...

I’ve been around since before you started building the truck and I actually have a 2014 bighorn with the 8 speed and I wanted to see what my options were for some cheap canned tunes or what I can do to adjust air fuel mixes/ tire size things like that. I don’t think the price of the HP tuners is worth it for me, are there any other options ?
Yeah, these people have had their hairs pushed in. The point of tuners was to screw EPA and all the BS. In many of the states Vehicles which are 8500 pounds or more are considered emission free; and those are the ones which pollute the most!. Read up on Bamatuner - I'll be looking into it as well.

I got a 2014 with the 8 speed, my I3 worked just fine. Mine gave me the option to skip the TCM part so it did not even try to mess with it. So think they are hit or miss. And yes the tuner was updated couple weeks ago before I loaded so its not an older version.
Yeah apparently there are some "lucky" and "unlucky" 2014s but really they should fix the problem and deliver full support. My 14 was an "unlucky" one apparently.

You look into jay Greene tunes? You send them you diablo sport tuner or any other tuner I think and they tune it and tune the transmission for the 8spd I think there in Texas. I know a lot of guys send there tuner to him
Jason Nystrom I have the Jay Greene pcm and tcm tunes on my 2017. You don’t actually send him the tuner though. You have to connect the tuner to the computer and get files from the Diablo tuner and email them to Jay. He then sends you a custom tune from those files. You load his tunes on the tuner from the computer. You can then datalog and send those files to Jay so he can fine tune everything or when you add a new mod. Jay knows his stuff and is great to work with

I have the PC also and it works good with the tune. I believe Jay incorporates a 20% throttle boost with his tune, but it still didn’t “feel” like it did with just the PC on Sport+ setting. So with Jay’s tune, I now set my PC on city and it has the feel of Sport+.

It turned my 2013 Rt 6speed into a neck snapping animal but everything but the motor broke so make sure you have a warranty and get rid of it when it’s up period

I miss the smooth downshifts of the 6speed but 8speed is quicker and doesn't hunt gears as much which I like!

That sucks! but for my end i got diablo T2 with new pcm just to be safe from it wanting to mess up my oem pcm. It works great with no issues and my truck is a 8 speed as well. Also got a custom tune by hemifever definitely felt a big difference.

Thsts whyi like the older chargers
I have been fighting with mine since day one. they had to do a hard reset for me to do the initial install. Locks up constantly. It used to take 3 or 4 tries to load a tune. Most of that has been fixed with the most recent update. But it still locks up trying to came back from the performance pages. Yesterday they had set truck back to stock and do a new update(third this week). Still the same thing. Today they had me return truck to stock again and they did a hard reset again. locked up 3 times trying to reload tunes. we shall see what happens when I go out after lunch and test it again. I have been looking at HP this week too. This is bull snd I'm sick of it.

2016. It generally works(not always)as long as i don't use the performance pages. I will give it another shot, but not until after racing next weekend. But for now I carry my factory pcm with me just in case. I think if someone were just going to use canned tunes they would want to look into the new Edge Pulsar (Thisis not a plug. I dont know if there are issues with it yet!) One more chance then HP here I come.
I bought the same tuner per your advice. This was before you tried the tranny tune. My 2014 4x4 8 speed works perfect. I know Ive posted this before. Its hit or miss on the 2014. I do hate the long loading going from stock to a new tune. I still have my 04 Mustang cobra that I bought new back in the day. It is using the diablo predator canned tune and making 487 rwhp from just a cheap pully swap on 91 octane tune. I know there are better tunes out there and I am going Jay Greens for my Ram tune I think and ditching the Diablo tuner although it does work on my Truck.
Yeah the 2014s are only working on some trucks and I didn't even talk about 2013 guys who got completely left in the dark too! 😯
