Grandpa's Dog Tag - Deer Lake Wa - 7/29/2024

Some treasures are valuable, others are priceless.
Today I would like to share with you one of those priceless treasure recoveries. Earlier this month Mary and I were contacted by Gary, from the Haney's Association Beach here on the east side of Deer Lake. He told us a story of his young Grandson, James, who was swimming from the Association Dock, and lost his other Grandfather's military dog tag into the lake. this was something passed down to James, and was irreplaceable. There was absolutely no way I could turn down this recovery attempt for this young boy. I first dove on this a few weeks ago, and was only partially successful. The weeds and mud are tall and deep at the end of this dock, and even with my best metal detector, I was only able to recover the chain from the tag at that time. The clasp was open, and the tag had slid off. that failed attempt weighed on my heart, so I was determined to make a second attempt. This is the record of that second dive....
