I'm so glad I found your channel! This was by far the simplest dog trick video I've seen. I like how you explain it directly and show it without adding 20 minutes of just talking and chatting. Its direct and to the point and it works! Thank you! Just subscribed.

Great video Emily glad to see the shaping version of this behavior. I do like how you said to use luring to make the process go faster but wait and see if the dog will repeat to behavior. Fantastic video and way to go Trish I was very happy to see how quickly she caught on.

@mysecretscankill I assume it's to let your dog try to think for itself, rather than be told what to do. It probably helps for when you're trying to teach more complicated behaviours that your dog may need to infer what to do.

@ShadowandPatches Thanks, I know it's easy, I've already taught my girl to do it. I que 'go under' then 'down' and she'll lie under my legs now.

To you ppl at the bottom of this comments thinger ma jig ( I hope you kno what I mean) free shaping = clicking for smaller steps towards a behavior goal.
Ex: to Free shape your dog to turn their head to the left: wait until they move their head slightly, then click, then only click when they move their head slightly to the left, then a little more, say to a 10 degree angle then 20 30 and so on until you get to the goal. This often takes a while though but the dog remembers better when they act

Now what would be awesome, is if you could tell them to go under a chair whilst you're sat on it, and cue them to lie under it :D

This looks so easy, but, my dog is deaf. I can't use a clicker or verbal commands. Do you have a movie on how to train deaf dogs?

You can condition a hand signal like opening and closing your hand, or a quick thumbs up as a marker to mean the dog did something right. If you are working on something where the dog isnt looking at you you can use a soft touch to the side of the dogs shoulder. OR simply toss a treat infront of the dog- seeing the treat will mark the behavior you want.

I suggest learning the signs in ASL for the commands (ex. Yes, no, sit, down, etc.) Dogs are more visual in following commands than verbally anyway. I taught my aunt and uncle’s deaf Australian Shepherd sit, down, shake, and high five (along with yes and no) in a week while I was visiting, so don’t lose hope. If you have ever seen people using sign language to communicate, you can see that it’s all in the sign and the facial expression. So if you’re teaching them “yes” as an indicator for a good job, show your excitement in your facial expression and body language (even hearing dogs primarily communicate with body language and touch among other dogs.) If you need to get your dogs attention while they’re close, you can basically wave your hand in front of their face. Whenever there was a good distance in between Marla and I, I would either stomp or knock on the ground for her to feel the vibrations.
