- The other day I was prepping for my upcoming surf fishing trip and ran into a bit of a problem…
I was going to be targeting pompano, but none of the stores had floats.
My trip was the next day, so instead of ordering them online and waiting a few days for them to come in, I decided to take matters into my own hands and make my own floats.
The floats I made looked just like the store-bought ones but were a fraction of the cost.
In this video, I’m going to show you how to make your own floats, plus I’ll show you two other surf fishing rig hacks that will save you time and money.
I've been testing a bunch of different tricks like these and the three in this video are my favorite.
If you like to go surf fishing, you're going to love this video.
Have any questions about these hacks?

I've been using my old disposable foam earplugs from work as floats in freshwater. Work great.
You could also use a 30 caliber (or similar) brass rifle casing...fired and empty, of course..and do the same thing. That's how I make mine. And if you are into fly tying, the little flip flop floats make great popper bodies for bluegills.
Nice tip I was actually thinking recently what I could make those floats with. This is a great idea!
Great float hack😂
Thanks!
That baseball card protector is genius
One of my favorite channels for useful info..Thanks alot guys!
When I saw the flip-flops in the thumbnail I thought “what a great idea, that will make walking in the surf so much easier “. Still going to try it.
New subscriber awesome videos. Especially this video helped out a lot I haven’t been able to find floats anywhere and it takes days to get some online so definitely gonna try your hack for the floats. Thanks!

Great idea on the floats, you can take a file and sharpen the edges and it will cut even better. If you do that you'll need to do it over wood so it doesnt dull as quickly.
thanks for the good video, much of this i will need to use
Just Amazing and funny, Love it
Awesome! I've tried disposable earplugs but they absorbed water and not bouyant enough, so I used flopflops as well.
Thank you for some ideas, I stop buying store rigs years ago...

Great video.
Thanks for checking it out!
One thing I do to prevent the rigs from tangling is once folded I ise a little piece of painters tape. It comes off easy and clean

Fantastic work. Would you share your video, lighting, and sound setup? It's great!
Great video man thanks for sharing. However you didn’t show how you put the line through the hole in the sandal lol float you made? Assuming you a small object such as a toothpick or something and you punch it through to make a small hole so you can put the line through?
Trading card holder is an interesting tip I'll try it. I use the small "snack" size ziploc bags that are about 3" tall to keep my rigs in. Can use them a few times over and over if you save them. I have all different sizes and colors separated in a small three ring binder thing I got at bass pro. It just hangs from my cart. Try a cheap set of gasket punches from harbor freight for the flip flops. Cuts really easily. I have to imagine that the copper pipe gets bent after a couple times. The punches are made for being hit by a hammer. Great info keep it up
I keep the little clear packets that hooks, swivels and split shot come in. They usually have some kind of resealable flap or ziplock and are the perfect size for most hand tied rigs. They are reusable multiple times so when I pull a rig out I just put the packet back in my tackle bag to be reloaded for the next trip.
haha thats a cool way of having a float rig
Wow ang galing
That flip flip trick is an awesomw hack
Glad we could help!
good video like th plug maker.I use the slipper to hold rigs ct slits by the toe and heel. stab hooks into the sides of slipper. holds 2 sabiki rigs and 2 or 3 dorado rigs. no tangles. ... I make bottom fishing and sabiki rigs sameway exept you put the hook on backwards .aways put the line from the inside of the hook. works better that way cause it curls around the jaw thats why most hooks are pointed to the eye of the hook . that why circle hooks work without setting the hook . also the slipper rig is washdown able and floats . no scared um go get um.
How do you make the hole in the float.
Nice video. I gave up on the flip flop because it was about impossible to drill an adequate hole through the float.
Sharpen a bicycle spoke end, heat up in candle flame, push through float slowly, I do that with my cork floats; do pushing motion few times to clear hole. 🎣
When you make your float out of that flip flop what do you use to put a hole so it to put your line through
how did u put the flip flop float on the rig?...did u drill a hole or make a slit??????
Looks like it would deform the floats!
Great tips! What is the best way to make a hole in the flip flop float?
A drill will do it.
I just used the zip lock bags for the craft section in Walmart. 3 bucks for 200 baggies.
How do you punch the hole thru to be able to push a doubled line thru, yet the cork still be tight on the line? That is the most difficult part.
How do you get the hole in the flip flop floater ?you never did say.
What do you do just stab a whole through the middle?
What did you use to make the hole?
what about a packing peanut?? Would that work?
Do you need the beads?
what do you use to make the hole in the center of the floats?
I use bicycle spoke with sharp end point, heat up in candle, push through float slowly, do pushing motion few times to clear hole; I do that with my cork floats 🎣
If I use 3/4 coper tube is that too big ?
How are you putting a hole through the flip flop float (FFF) for the line?
Check the caption at the bottom of the screen, just after he pulls the plug out of the flip flop.

Just thought I would answer my own question. I found an old hollow adjustable curtain rod. It works great for cutting floats.
How thick are the sandals ?
What is de bead function? thks!
Stopper
Kinda late now atlest for Florida water temp way to high
Thank you for some ideas, I stop buying store rigs years ago...
