  • April 5th, 1997 within the Torres-Martinez reservation by Mecca CA (33°36'46.8"N 116°00'32.1"W), a Rave party called Dune III was held. In total, around 10,0000 people attended. I was surfing the net one night and came across these 4 footage files, which were posted by "Old School Rava" a few years back. Although I was there, I did not tape it. So sit back and relax or just reminisce. You might just see yourself on video! I sure did.
So why did they stop? One man's accidental dead the next year. Read here: articles.latimes.com/1998/jun/...
Also, here is a link to further party footage by Adam: angeladam.com/video/OldRavesAn...

I was there as well that night. I will NEVER forget that party. Did anyone else remember the comet that flew overhead that night?

I am so amazingly blessed to have been at this party. Thank you, whoever or whatever arranged that! It is a beautiful memory I will treasure for the rest of my life.
I even liked Dune the following year, the Hairy Windstorm year!
It makes me so happy to think of these parties, and so wistful to remember why they ended.

Best party I ever went to, and the moment they played the movie intro is my single favorite raving moment ever. Ahhh memories.

Glad you guys enjoyed the footage. I think I was the only person there with a camera so I took as much footage as possible. Wish I would have had 2 batteries for my cam, would have had more. Anyway, more old school videos on my page and posting more in the future...about 30 or so videos from my days raving in L.A.

This party WAS amazing! i will never forget driving here and having to pull off to this old dirt road that looked like it was leading to nowhere! the wind was blowing so hard there was sand blowing everywhere. once you walked what seemed like eternity down this road, 10,000 people strong appeared at the bottom of the hill, all under the brightest star filled sky. people on stage dressed in black light out fits dancing. it was wonderful and EVERYONE danced till the morning.

The reason that there were so many Glow Sticks at this party is because at some point during Sandra's set, the promoters got behind the DJ booth with box's of them that had alreay been lit, and started throwing thousands of them out into the crowd. Anyone else remember that? It was amazing, because it took like well over a minute to throw them all. We filmed the whole thing from the up in the rocks to the right, I just WISH I knew where that tape still was?

I remember the moment when the lights went out and everyone threw the glowsticks into the air at once!

Yes I do! My friends and I grabbed them. This was one of the best raves that I ever went to. I even remember what I was wearing. I wore contacts because my vision has always been so awful and the sand was getting in my eyes. I had drops but it was tough. Back then I had no idea about wearing goggles. No one dressed like people do now back then. Back then it was all about the music, being present, and feeling the energy around you. Today, it is all about who can dress the most tacky and take the most pictures and post them. This is why older people like us cannot stand the scene now. This was the best time to be going to raves and no other time will ever compare. Sandra Collins used to DJ on Tuesday nights at Club Metropolis. Every Tuesday they would have a guest DJ there like Sasha, Jason Blakemore, Donald Glaude, and so many more that are now completely mainstream with everything clumped together as EDM (I will not use that term). It just sucks. 😢

Oh God I was there for this! What the video doesn't show is that there were a LOT more people on the cliffside who lit flares when the words "Dune" fly up on the screen. It was freakin amazing!!!!

I went to bigger and smaller parties, I also went to club "Time" in downtown LA until it closed in late 1996. Magic Wednesday at the World venue in Hollywood was a blast as well! How about Organic '96 in the LA forest, Moon tribe anyone?

  • @gregs76
    @gregs76 Před 15 lety +1

You don't even know what you are talking about man. This was the Los Angeles scene-one of the biggest and best in the world during the early/mid-nineties. That's why every dj from everywhere came to play parties here. If there's one thing the LA scene had, it was good music, especially cause trance, hardcore, and D&B were so huge here. And this party was one of the best I ever went to, and I went to a lot. From the evening to way into the next afternoon, this thing was going off.

  • @BDDave

same here man. The Dune parties were all amazing parties. and you're right about the music and the vibes. I think it has to do with the fact that everyone's on speed nowadays as oppose to psychedelics like back in the days. The only place on eath were I acutally felt a vibe is at the Burning Man events.

Watch what you wish for. The next year a college student trying acid for the 1st time, wandered off and broken his neck in a fall during the sand storm. As a result, no more open desert raves. The Hwy Patrol would block off all the off ramps to the venues in the future.

I'm sure you don't use a whistle anymore, but it's rude to others and the Dj. It's changing the sound of the music into something that you want instead of keeping it unfiltered as it should be. Not only that, it encourages people with no beat to do the same thus making the song a train wreck. I never paid to go to raves in hopes that people would be adding "their own flair" to an original mix.
