  • In this video, I discuss how to post the trot without stirrups. This is a great skill to learn that can strengthen your legs, improve balance, and help you to work with the motion of your horse.
    Posting without stirrups is best started after you become comfortable posting with the stirrups. When you feel confident and ready start by warming up your horse, and also ensure they are in a relaxed state so you stay safe :)
    Learning how to post the trot without stirrups can be challenging, but also beneficial. It is such a great tool to help you improve as a rider. Have fun practicing this and feel free to leave any questions 😊

    Hi, my trainer is starting to have me ride without stirrups and try to post without them. When my feet are out of the stirrups, I feel comfortable enough to have the horse walk, when the horse trots, it scares me because I have no support in my feet and I almost bounced off the horse since I bounce a lot. As for posting, I tried that without the stirrups but was unable to lift myself up and I started to have a pain in my knee. Got any advice on how I can improve?
    So, I guess I should strengthen my quads and inner thighs by doing wide squats (toes pointing outward) and hamstrings by doing dead-lifts?🏋️‍♂️

    • @JSHorsemanship
      @JSHorsemanship  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Rob😀
      Something you can try is start by practicing your posting with stirrups checking that your knee is pointed down and you have a stable thigh. During your practice with stirrups check that your lower leg from the knee down is quiet. Once you feel your lower leg is quiet, then you can practice short distanced of the posting with out stirrups. Doing exercises that help strengthen your quadriceps and hamstring‘s off the horse is also a big help.
      Good luck with your practice 🐴
