  • Being an American and knowing very little about the late Queen, I thought it was only fitting to learn about her by watching The Life of Queen Elizabeth II Obituary. I felt like this video was heartfelt and represented the legacy of Queen Elizabeth II well.
While watching this video I couldn't help but to be touched by her story. She was once a little girl not born to be Queen. However, through the adjudication of her Uncle and the death of her Father she became the most beloved and longest serving Queen in British history.
This was a touching tribute and a history lesson at the same time. Rest in Peace Queen Elizabeth II.
Thanks for watching. If you enjoyed this reaction please give this video a thumbs up, share your thoughts in the comments and click the subscribe button to follow my journey to learn about my British ancestry.

Just a little true story for you, my nephew was a teacher in Norfolk the county where the Sandringham estate is situated.
He used to run a couple of miles, each day before breakfast along the beach, before getting ready for work.
He often saw a little old lady, walking three labradorite on the beach, occasionally he just nodded, say morning to the lady, then one day the lady didn't wear a scarf and obviously recognised her.
The next time, he stopped bowed his head and said good morning you majesty.
She smiled and said good morning Mr. Bagnall, don't let me keep you from your work, educating the children.
She was always under the watchful security services who had obviously checked my nephew out and given him clearance and advised her who he was and what he did.
A wonderful and very human Lady.

Some may find that hard to believe, but a former boss of mine was from somewhere between King's Lynn and Sandringham. She used to go for walks in nearby woods, and often saw the Queen with her dogs. It was a very ordinary meeting, a simple good morning, but one time, the Queen chatted about a concert in Lynn where she had spotted my boss sitting in the row behind. Her Majesty was basically an ordinary person who happened to have a crown.

At 81++ and with a terminal illness I will die quite soon, but the tears that I will have in my eyes will not be for myself, but for my beautiful queen whom I served and loved more than life itself. She was at once my Gangan, the woman I adored, and the queen who gave my life the direction to be the best and most loving, selfless and noble person that I could be, It is now 2024 and I miss her in some way every single day and I am not ashamed to say that I tear up often. RIP my Queen and everyone's Gangan or Grandma. You heart was so big that you loved the entire world. Thank you, for everything.

here's two moments that speak volumes about who she was as a person.
    1. When she served in the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service, she was an ambulance driver and a mechanic. There she learned to drive well. I mean really well, and she loved to drive. When the Saudi king visited her - during the years when women in that country were not allowed to drive - the Queen offered to show him around the castle grounds (it was Sandringham castle if I remember well). The king naturally thought that they will be driven around by a driver and he was surprised to see the Queen herself sitting at the wheel of her Range Rover. And apparently she drove like an absolute maniac so by the end the king got out of the car shaking...
    2. When visiting Ireland she shook hands with Martin McGuinness who as a former head of the terrorist organization IRA not only fought to destroy the monarchy but also had a hand in the assassination of Prince Philip's uncle, Lord Mountbatten. I often find myself wondering: how many people would be able to do that, to put the interest of the country in front of your personal feelings, and in order to bring together nations separated for so long by conflict to make peace and shake hands with someone who tried to murder you and your family? That is greatness, sacrifice and sense of duty!

In my 68 years, I've known only The Queen until last year. She was, as others have said, the rock on which this country was built. For weeks, seeing how weak she was becoming, I dreaded looking at the news. When the news finally broke, I was on the phone with a friend. A message flashed on screen, and despite knowing that the end was approaching because of the stories on the media, I was devastated. I am still devastated, and watching this video has made me cry, yet again, for my loss. Some will question what I have lost, as it said in the video, she was our anchor. In the difficult times she managed to say the right words, words that gave many of us comfort. I read somewhere that although someone else wrote her speeches, she edited them and made them her own. We shall not see her like again.

Queen's Children: Charles, Anne, Andrew, Edward. William and Harry are the sons of Charles.
Abdication: the worst thing a King or Queen can do in most circumstances. In a few, it was a benefit for the nation. But most times it's a breach of faith. You abdicate ONCE you're King or Queen, meaning you renounce your duty to the nation. You walk away from the responsibilities. The only good thing about Edward VIII abdicating was that it was before he was coronated and swore those oaths in public. However, the day of his ascension he'd sworn the same oaths. He broke them.
Elizabeth never really forgave him for it, for in doing so her father had to take up the role; and the stress of being King brought George VI to an early grave.

I think her stoicism came in part from being a woman in a man's world. From the age of 25 she needed to work amongst the men in politics and not be treated as a little girl who didn't know anything. So she worked incredibly hard to be supremely informed about all things. She shocked many a prime minister who did not realize how knowledgeable and involved and informed she would be.

It has been some weeks, and I find I'm still trying to get my head around the fact that the Queen has departed this life. I think many of us who live in Commonwealth countries, large and small, will find that with her passing, the words of the old pop song will ring true: "You don't know what you've got 'till it's gone." My mother shared a birthday with the Queen - both born in 1926 - and curiously they were to meet twice - I say curiously because most Canadian citizens would never meet the Queen in person - but it's one of those peculiar sets of events, all the more so because my mum was not famous, or involved in politics, or anything like that. The Queen and Prince Phillip enjoyed their visits to western Canada, and actually bought a small place in the foothills of the Rockies in Alberta. How often they were able to make time to have a few days there I don't know. Listening to the Queen's Christmas Message was a much a part of Christmas Day as a tree or Christmas dinner with family and friends. I think many of us reflected on the fact that however hard the year might have been, She and Prince Phillip had worked harder. As the Queen was also - officially - the Queen of Canada and therefore the Head of State, there were always reminders of that. She was held in very great respect - which was evident from the crowds during any Royal visit - but I think people always felt that the respect was returned, and that she had a genuine interest in, and love of this country.
Many people speculated about how Charles would do as King. I suspect we will now see that he has had decades of a superb example to learn from, and that he will become a worthy successor, and eventually be remembered as having done well. To which I say, with great sadness but also with hopes for the reign of Charles III: God Save The King.

"Heir apparent" means an heir to the throne that cannot be displaced by a new birth. If the heir can be displaced they are called the "heir presumptive".
Before Edward VIII abdicated, his brother (the later George VI) was heir presumptive, since if Edward had children they would have come ahead in the line of succession. When George VI was king, Elizabeth was heir presumptive, since at that time males came ahead of females, so if the King had a son later, he would have displaced Elizabeth. However when Elizabeth was queen, Charles was heir apparent, since as the eldest son, he couldn't be displaced.
Since 2013 the rules of succession were changed to give female children equal priority, so now an eldest daughter could be an heir apparent.

The picture towards the end of her standing alone in what looks like a sitting room, with the beautiful smile on her face, holding on to a cane, was the last picture taken of her. She was welcoming in our New Prime Minister, sadly two days later she died. I will never forget that date because it was the 8th September, which is the date of my Birthday and Wedding Anniversary! We all knew she was unwell but we didn’t expect her to go so quickly! She never had time to mourn for her loss of Prince Philip, we sae her fading before our eyes, the weight had just dropped of of her. Sadly, the ex Senior Royal and his wife, who live in Montecito in the USA, caused her enormous stress and anxiety, they did the same to Prince Philip, who was in hospital dying. They advised the ex Royals and they actually said that the Royal Family were using it as an excuse, to stop the interview being broadcast, the Royal Family didn’t say cancel it but to merely hold back on it, to let Prince Philip, die a peaceful death. He asked to leave the hospital and go home to Windsor Castle, to have the Queen at his side, when his passing came. Sadly, whilst he was in hospital, he read everything the ex Royals had said about the Royal Family and supposed cruelty they suffered at their hands, it’s was his wife that told him he was trapped and needed to get away from the Royal Family. He didn’t have a peaceful death, he was full of anxiety, stress and deflated, not at the thought of dying but because, he would no longer be with his love the late Queen to help guide her through what this disgusting couple were saying about the Queen & Royal Family. The family also, found out that she had a rare form on bone cancer that was terminal. In the days leading up to her death the Ex Royals were in the UK for some charity event, they were asked to come and visit her, they refused and a day or two days after that she died. She too suffered with stress and anxiety as she was dying, every morning she woke up, she was nervous about what this pair would do next! Most of the UK don’t want them to ever step foot back in the UK! I can only take some relief, that there was about 15/16 months between the Queen & Prince Philip’s death. I picture him coming through to her and saying come on my love, let’s go and be together again for all of time. So I don’t know what the people in the USA, think of what these ex Royals are saying, about our Monarchy, Royal Family and the people of the UK, calling us all racists, saying disgusting things about, King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William and Princess Catherine, which are lies! I must say though that huge amounts of Americans have come out and supported us all on this side of the pond. We have always had a great relationship with the USA, which they are trying to destroy! If you watch them, everything they say, is from their own perspective, they no that Royal Protocol, means our Royalty will not respond. You guys over there need to find someone with a backbone of steel, that will challenge every single thing they are saying! Anyway, time for my bed, Take Care, Stay Safe, from a cold a rainy evening! ❄️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❄️❄️🇬🇧❄️🇺🇸❄️🦋🦋🥂🎊🎉🍾🥂🙏🏻

The Queen served in WW2. Princess Elizabeth (as she then was) drove an ambulance during the war, and gained mechanical knowledge. I can't claim ever to have been a massive Royalist, but I was touched by her passing. I'm 65 years old, and never knew any other Monarch. Buckingham Palace was bombed at least once during WW2. The staff put the fire out before it got hold..... The Queen's Equerry is/was her sort of personal assistant......

The baby at 1:56 is Anne and the children in the subsequent footage are her four children, not grandchildren.
Charles (born 1948) in the beige suit on the left, Anne (born 1950) in the light blue next to him, Andrew (born 1960) in the blue sweater reaching up to Edward (born 1964) who she is holding.
At 2:56 is her mother, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother (earlier Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon).
At 3:18, the little girl in bottom middle of the picture is her sister, Princess Margaret Rose of York (1930-2002).
Her cousin speaking at 3:20 is the tall girl in the photo with them.
Abdication is when a monarch renounces the throne and passes it onto their heir. In this case, it was because of his personal choices and as he had no children, it passed to his brother, but most often it is done when a monarch passes the reins (and the reign) to their eldest child in life - whether through age, illness or a simple decision to retire. For example, the King of Spain and the Queen of the Netherlands in recent years and decades.
The Heir Apparent is the reigning monarch's eldest child (for example, William). When the eldest child was a girl, she was the Heir Presumptive. Elizabeth became that on her father's rise to the throne as it was on the assumption that her parents didn't go onto have a boy who would then overtake her as Heir Apparent. That law has now changed in many countries, including the UK, so the firstborn of a monarch is now the Heir Apparent regardless of gender.
Queen Elizabeth II wasn't born to be Queen but seeing as her uncle, who reigned briefly, married a woman who couldn't bear children, she would have been Queen regardless as even with her uncle outliving her father, the throne would have passed to her on her uncle's death as his eldest surviving heir.
Prince Philip was five years older than the Queen. Hardly "an age difference" !
Fun fact - at 7:10, the Queen shakes hands with the beautiful Diana Dors, AKA "the British Marilyn".
The Queen's Equerry is the senior attendant to the Queen's horses. Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Lawrence, Princess Anne's husband, was the Queen's Equerry from 1986 to 1989.
As for Tony Blair, barely is how many wish that they could remember him!
The boy dressing the Christmas tree at 12:29 is Andrew, not William. The girl telling him to "Get off!" is Anne.
The Queen passed away just 17 months after her husband. That image at 14:00 will be forever haunting. While the Queen wore a mask and sat alone at the funeral of the man who had been by her side for over seven decades, ministers around the world partied without a care. What made it more shocking was that Prince Philip's health had been failing for some time but though the Queen had missed appointments on and off, such as the Jubilee concert, she met with outgoing Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, and incoming Prime Minister, Liz Truss, just two days before her death (the photo at 15:37 is from that day).
As for Andrew, perhaps someone can come up with evidence that he had sex with an underaged child. Until then, ............
Let's, however, leave this on a lighter note ... ... If you have not seen the James Bond sequence at the opening ceremony of the Olympics/Paralympics in London 2012 and the Paddington sequence as the opening of the Platinum Party at the Palace in June of this year, please treat yourself to them. They were funny and wonderful and such a testament to the sense of humour and self-effacement of the late Queen Elizabeth the Great.

"Abdication of Edward" - King Edward VIII proposed to marry Wallis Simpson, an American socialite who was divorced. The marriage was opposed by the governments of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Commonwealth. Religious, legal, political, and moral objections were raised. As the British monarch, Edward was the nominal head of the Church of England, which at this time did not allow divorced people to remarry in church if their ex-spouses were still alive.

At the time of her birth, the then Princess Elizabeth of York occupied the same position as her granddaughter, Princess Beatrice of York, does today - that is, the elder daughter of the Monarch's second son. She was 3rd in the Order of Succession (to inherit the throne), but as everyone then expected her uncle, who was then Prince of Wales to marry and have children who would have displaced her in that order, she would have remained a minor princess no matter how long she lived, had that been the case. There was also the possibility that, had her parents subsequently had sons, they would also have displaced her owing to the inheritance system in operation at that time. The baby she is seen holding at 2:03 is her only daughter, who was then styled HRH Princess Anne of Edinburgh, as Elizabeth and Philip were then titled Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh; in 1987 she was given the title of HRH The Princess Royal, which will remain for the rest of her life. The occasion was her Christening on 21st October 1950, when she was just over 9 weeks old. All of the children in the family group at 2:50 are the Queen's: Charles and Anne are standing to the left of the image as you thought; the boy with the colourful jumper on the right is Prince Andrew, and the baby is Prince Edward, now Earl of Wessex. It is likely to be in the gardens of Balmoral Castle in September of 1964. The Queen herself was 38 years old, Prince Philip 43, Prince (now King) Charles was a few weeks short of his 16th birthday, Princess Anne was 14 and Prince Andrew was 4.
The Queen's uncle had in fact been King Edward VIII for almost 11 months when he decided to give up his throne in favour of his twice-divorced lover, Mrs Wallis Simpson. Ever since King Henry VIII was excommunicated by the then Pope in 1543 and afterwards, founded the Church of England and appointed himself as its supreme governor; successive monarchs have held that responsibility ever since. As the church did not approve of divorce at the time - let alone the marriage of its supreme governor to a divorcee, the king's marriage intentions prompted a constitutional crisis which at length, ended with the abdication of the king on 11 December 1936. As the king was not married, he had no legitimate children and therefore the responsibility of becoming king passed to his eldest brother, Prince Albert, Duke of York, who opted to use George VI as his Regnal Name. This had result of pushing Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret UP the Order of Succession, into 1st and 2nd places respectfully. As their parents had no further children, Elizabeth became Queen Regnant the moment her father died on 6 February 1952. The former King Edward VIII, who married Mrs Simpson in a Civil ceremony in France soon after his abdication, was given the title Duke of Windsor and reverted to the style of His Royal Highness. The Duchess of Windsor (Wallis) was explicitly prevented from using any royal style however and only afforded the style of an ordinary non-royal duchess, that is, Her Grace. They lived mostly in voluntary exile in Paris for the rest of their lives, the duke passing away in 1972 and the duchess in 1989. Both were repatriated in death and were buried together in the Royal Burial Ground at Frogmore, on the Windsor Castle estate. As they had no children, the Queen would have succeeded her uncle in any case, reigning for 50 rather than 70 years.
As the Queen already had three children by the time Princess Margaret's first was born in 1961, Viscount Linley (as he was then titled) was born 5th in the Order of Succession after his mother. Both were subsequently displaced many times as the Queen's grandchildren and great-grandchildren were born - all of whom come before them. Having succeeded to his late father's earldom some years ago, the 2nd Earl of Snowdon is currently in 24th place, his sister following his sons at 27th. The Earl is the first person not descended from Queen Elizabeth II and together with his and his sister's families, they complete the descendants of King George VI. The succession then passes to the other grandchildren of King George V and their families - and then to the descendants of all previous monarchs back to George III, as the lines of the first two Georges are extinct. Estimated to comprise of around 8000 people, this includes most of the other Royal Houses of Europe, past and present - and many untitled individuals!
King Charles was born in 1948 - Princes William and Harry are his sons, born 1982 and 1984 respectively. All of their children - George, Charlotte and Louis in the case of William, and Archie and Lilibet in the case of Harry, are now also styled as Princes and Princesses. The children of Princess Anne, born in 1950, do not have titles. Those of Princes Andrew (born 1960) and Edward (1964) are entitled to Prince and Princess titles and styles but in the case of Prince Edward's children, choose to be styled as children of an Earl instead. The Earl of Snowdon's children and sister are similarly styled, but his nephews are untitled. Of the living descendants of King George V, the Dukes of Gloucester and Kent are princes, as is the latter's brother and sister [Richard (aged 79), Edward (88), Michael (81) and Alexandra (86)], their eldest sons are Earls and their eldest Grandsons, viscounts while daughters and granddaughters in the male line are Lady. Younger sons are Lords, their children and all the descendants of Princess Alexandra are not titled.

Our late Queen definitely had a twinkle in her eye and a fantastic sense of humour as will be seen from the little film she made with Paddington Bear for the introduction to her Platinum Jubilee Concert this year.
You should watch that as it was hilarious.
King Edward VIII reigned from January 1936 to December 1936, when he abdicated (basically resigned from the "job" of monarch) in favour of his brother Prince Albert George (who took the title of) King George VI. King Edward VIII then became Duke of Windsor and also had the nickname The Uncrowned King as he never had a Coronation.
