- During the college football game between Ohio State and Rutgers, Ohio State's punter decided to take off on fourth down even though his team was already leading 49-10. Rutgers did not take kindly to this and hit him out of bounds. The sequence led to multiple penalties and the two head coaches getting in a shouting match.

Ryan Day confirmed in the press conference that it wasn't a fake punt and the punter just saw an opportunity and took it. He hinted the punter was in a bit of trouble.
Wow way to throw him under the bus
If the scuffle didn't happen after they play I like his response. Since the scuffle I'd of said something like my punter made a big brain play saw that their coaches called a bad punt block overload set and was smart enough to take advantage of their ignorance.
He shouldn't be in trouble at all.
@@CouchGamer5 It isn't the punters job to stop Ohio State.
Miami did that years ago against Syracuse. If I were coaching the losing team, I'd send in the goons like John Chaney.
A football coach accused of running up the score on an opponent once said: "I'll stop trying to score, if they stop trying to score."
Guarantee you the punter has been coached that anytime you see that formation take the yards, and that’s what happened. He didn’t care what the score was at that moment he just reverted back to what he’s been coached!
Glad he got leveled then...

@@petem4411 why he got the offense back on the field 😂
It was not a fake punt. It was a broken play because Rutgers was blitzing the kicker and he would've been blocked. So he decided to run it instead. It was a heads up play.
This is exactly what happened. Rutgers was asking for a butt-kicking by overloading the box and trying to block the punt. What is Mirco supposed to do? Allow them to block the punt and perhaps run it back? No, the only thing putrid about that play was the cowardly cheap shot at the end.
🤣 soooooo if it was going to get blocked how the hell did he have so much room to run before he got to the line of scrimmage? You're grasping at straws trying to justify the punter taking actions into his own hands instead of just punting it away when he clearly had more than enough room to do so.
@@LordTepes81 look for the video, I'm sure it's out there. They were lined up and there was an opening for him to run through with no one behind to stop him. It aint that hard to figure out.
@@donyoung7874 I'm looking right at the video and the replay. If Rutgers had a free shot at the punter he's not getting out of the backfield. He's definitely not gonna have about 7 yards of free real estate in front of him. He could have punted that ball at any given time before the line of scrimmage and chose to run. I mean in the end I don't care either way, but stop trying to make it out like Rutgers was gonna block that punt. It wasn't gonna happen.

The brain traumas recently suffered by Tua Tagovailo call into serious question our rationality and morality as a society. Tua is an adult and can make decisions for himself. However, children lack the maturity and legal ability to make many decisions for themselves. Many medical professionals claim the brain is not fully developed until the mid twenties. Yet Multiple national in depth studies definitively show that participating in American football results in numerous debilitating physical injuries. Over 20% of all bone breaks, and gruesome joint injuries each year in 14-18 yr olds are the result of participating in American Football. It is estimated that a third of all football players have had a concussion while practicing or playing American football. Most are undiagnosed. In coaching parlance , they “get their bell rung” and are praised for their manliness in absorbing the pain and reentering the fray. They are told to suck it up and take it for the team. These life changing injuries have been well documented for decades. Now CTE, or chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a degenerative brain disease linked to head trauma, has been cited as causes of death, erratic and violent behavior and suicides in over 50 former American football participants. American football players have a 15 TIMES greater incidence of CTE than the general population.
Supposedly adults are more experienced and capable of weighing the risks associated with their actions. Young children act impulsively and emotionally, often never calculating the possible outcomes of their acts. That is why adults must be in positions to regulate their activities and offer reasoned guidance.
Allowing children to engage in dangerous ‘games’ and activities is tantamount to child abuse and neglect. Parents, coaches and school districts that encourage such activities should not be surprised in the future to be defendants in lawsuits by the affected individuals.
The lives of young people are too valuable to sacrifice for frivolity. There are multiple less perilous alternatives to provide physical athleticism and teach the positive lessons team sports have to offer. Claiming American football is a safe way to improve the body and mind is a lie.

In the words of "The ol ball coach/ Steve Spurrier, Shows they care!"
Good points!
Great video. Coaches arguing is a solid highlight
Yeah I agree
What passes me off is that this is football period. If the kicker sees an opportunity to make a play then make the play. Who says that because it's a blow out you have to be nice and hold back. That's bs. As a fan I want my money's woth. PLAY FOOTBALL.
Ohio State has had multiple Aussie kickers over the years. They all roll out to kick, and the line sets up the block that way. Why Rutger's coach lined up for a punt block like that is beyond me. If anything they should have rushed outside, not inside. And as far as that hit, these wannabes saying the punter "learned his lesson" or "won't do that again", he grew up taking worse hits than that without pads.
Who cares if it was a fake punt? Where in the rule book does it say a punter must punt every time? Or are we talking 'football etiquette' here?
So with a 39 point lead you're supposed to just let the other team block the punt. Got it
nobody was near the punter. not a fan of either team but i think the punter or other players on that team deserved bigger hit
No, just punt the ball, period, pussy ass punter got what he deserved, it was a weak hit but still
Watch it again JB. Rutgers loaded up the left side and there was a guy coming in unblocked. My question is if Rutgers is pissed that Ohio State faked a pun because apparently they thought the game was over then why did they try to block the punt? Ohio State showed Mercy by pulling their starters in the fourth quarter
@@JB-423 oh boo hoo, are teams supposed to stop trying when they have the lead? Is Rutgers going to honor that and take a knee so that Ohio can walk away with the win? No, they aren't, doesn't matter if you're up by 50 in the first half, shove your win down the other team's throat until the clock hits zero. Don't like getting blown out? Play better.
Best comment 👌 👏
Thongs change scent from one end to the other. Knowledge is power. God bless
I love how everyone in these comments is salty and whining at Ohio State over this. It's Ohio State's objective to secure a win by any means, and at this moment it was up to Rutgers defense to stop them. Not the punter's fault the Rutgers defense sucked so badly it allowed him to run it quite easily for a first down.
Besides which, the only person at fault here is the Rutgers defender for the late hit. That alone is unsportsmanlike conduct and anyone who does it deserves to be thrown out of the game, end of.
I'm fine with that punter for acting like a dick. I'm also fine with that guy for hitting him for acting like a dick.
Schiano should thank Ohio State for this play.. learn ur lesson and fix it. This couldve been exposed next week for Rutgers in a tight game.. instead u learn your lesson in a blowout. You're Welcome.
The coach down by 39 sprinted across to the other sideline. Rutgers better shore up their PR scheme and have someone who can actually keep contain. Schiano has major problems, and he knows it.
rutgers is a lost cause, bad all around..you cant cure that infection
If anything blame the CFP committee for making teams have to run fake punts in the 4th quarter up 40 so they don't get snubbed from the playoffs
Wow a late hit and he was thrown out. I didn't think it warranted that
The punter has that read available. If he notices a particular defensive alignment, it’s his call.
The only way to stop it is to call time out.
if you dont like them faking a punt up by 39, then maybe you should make some plays and stop them
What happens if the punter did kick and the Rutger player fumbled at the 5 yd line? Are the Bucks supposed to not recover because they're up by 39?
BTW, it was 4th and 2. Ohio State would have likely made the 1st down had they really wanted to.
What if the punter had kicked it. People would be screaming that he had an easy 1st down had he run it. Even the coaches you can bet. Do the OSU coaches train their punters to lay down if they have a big lead. If Day reprimands this kid for doing his job then all he's doing is trying to take any heat off of himself. And if he does reprimand then he's a gutless wonder.
I'm not for running up a score but this play sure wasn't an attempt at that.
That hit was brutal
If you think the punter did anything wrong here, you’re probably a Browns or Lions fan
I'm sure those poor Rutgers players won't be able to sleep tonight because the punter made the proper call and ran for a first down. Rutgers doesn't need a participation trophy. They'll get over it.
Hopefully the won't get over it until next Saturday.
Ohio state is the little brother of college football. Beat up on mediocre big ten teams then get blown out by an sec team by 30 in the playoffs.
Regular progression of the play or not:
1. If you're going to tuck it and run, maybe don't go streaking for tons of extra yardage.
2. If you're up that much in the 4th quarter, maybe as a punter, you disregard the opportunity to get that first down there.
3. If you ignore 1 & 2, MAYBE you get knocked tf out.
Can't say I blame the Rutgers player. Play stupid games; win stupid prizes.
No matter how much of a "respect" thing it is, getting THAT mad because the other team doesn't just hand the ball over to you is pretty ridiculous. Maybe they should play better lol
Sorry, but if your team sucks enough to be behind by 30+ points and you call for a punt block that leaves the punter with an open lane to run and get the first down, then you lose your right to complain. And, late hits out of bounds are still illegal, regardless of the score. Save the mercy rules for Little League.
Exactly!!!
👏👏👏👏👏👏
Funny, Rutgers pulls like 12 trick plays in the first quarter but gets mad when he thinks OSU did 1 trick play the entire game.
This is a prime example of why "running up the score" isn't a valid complaint. They completely overloaded for the block which the printer saw and literally forced he to go outside just to be able to get off the punt. You can tell he was actually going to punt but looked up and saw a wide open field, if you actually think he's wrong or deserved to get hit late due to that play I seriously question you decision making skills.
Let’s not forget , teams get rewarded to the playoffs for impressive wins and blowouts when they should blowout a team . Star Players are getting paid now . Get better or go home .
This shouldn’t even be a problem. Games not over so don’t let up. Don’t lose by 50 at the end of the day
As someone who dislikes OSU, only because I'm a UGA fan. Even if it wasn't called, I loved it. Pure dedication to winning. Kudos to the punter. If you don't like it, play defense, and don't allow it.
As a UGA fan, do you think they should still be ranked #1 after squeaking by an unranked team? 🙂 J/K. I hope they meet in the playoffs.
@@Randalf999, NO, they don't deserve to be. LOL. I wouldn't mind seeing that match up.
