    If it’s not one of these 3, what’s your go to Tarpon reel? And, do you fish bait, artificials, or both?

    Awesome vid only thing is you said the slammer holds 340yds of 40lb but thats the specs for the 5500 reel.... their 6500 slammer holds 410 of 40lb

    I own all three of these reels and the slammer isn’t even in the same ball park as the other two. I burned through it in half a season while the other two are still just as good as they were and have been fished harder

    I used my Slammer DX 6500 for both bait and lure application. But need a 13' rod for bait and a 10' for lure.

    In South Africa the Daiwa Saltist and Shimano Saragosa reels are use to target and catch sharks from the shore. Thats why we pioneered the short butt surf casting spinning rods. We also pioneered the non return slide, dingle dangle, latex bait cotton etc etc etc.

    Tôi sở hữu cả 3 máy này size 8000 8000 và Slammer 6500 , Saltist tốt nhất nhưng tiếng drag hơi nhỏ so với Saragosa .Thứ 2 là Saragosa 675g hơi nặng nhưng ổn định , cảm giác kéo cá ko đầm như Saltist và slammer đc . Slammer thì cảm giác kéo cá khá chắc chắn ngang Saltist nhưng không mượt bằng và điều tệ nhất là tiếng drag nhỏ xíu không phấn khích như Saragosa 😅

    What reel is good for surf fishing? Usually use cut bait for anything that will bite

    • @tailwateroutfitters
      @tailwateroutfitters  Před 3 měsíci

      The best would be a van staal VR or X2. Some other good alternatives would be a Saragosa or a BG MQ for a more budget friendly option

    • @BigSteve34
      @BigSteve34 Před rokem

      Inshore would definitely go with the 3000 size not a 5000

    I’ve gotta 5k gosa on a med heavy fenwick elite inshore 7’6 usually use for snook around heavy structure and a 10k gosa on a 7’2 heavy terez. Which would be better suited for tarpon?

    • @tailwateroutfitters
      @tailwateroutfitters  Před rokem +1

      If you’re casting lighter baits pretty far, like on the beach, and they’re not very big fish, then the 5k will work, but it’s definitely light. The 10k and terez would be better, but I like longer rods for tarpon. They tend to keep the fish on better and help you cast further.

      I have a 6K Gosa. I hooked a 250lb (approx) stingray from the beach chasing redfish down in the OBX. He was screaming drag so hard I almost snapped my finger trying to slow it down. Cranked it down to probably 95% drag and stopped him with maybe 30 yards of line left on the spool. Was using 50lb braid FWIW. Took me over an hour to get him on the beach but that reel performed flawlessly. I've now bought 4 more Gosas in various sizes. Absolutely worth it for the money

    Conventional or fly gear for me….. have never like spinning reels… otherwise known as an upside down egg beater…. Too many moving parts like the bale…. that spins ….WTF do you actually need a one for …???? The bale-less spinner makes sense… maybe… but not so much …!
    I’m guessing spin gear users just can’t cast a conventional reel…
    I’ve never seen spin gear on a tuna party boat…… the reason being is …. Spin gear is too slow and not enough power for tuna and everyone will be waiting for you and they will be PISSED OFF AT YOU …. Don’t be that guy…!
