We attempt to spend our last week in Canada exploring Jasper National Park - but instead have to leave early due to the surrounding forest fires. Although we're sad to end our time in Canada so soon, we do our best to make the best of our last day. In effort to make the most of our last day, we find a beautiful free camping spot between Jasper and Banff National Park, search for the Northern Lights, and have our own mini-triathlon 😄

Don’t apologize for leaving early. Next year do explore BC, but cross the boarder in June & take advantage of all the Rec sites. They are cheap or free and usually on a large lake. We explored them in 2018 on our way up to Tuk and were normally the only ones there (except weekends). But don’t stop there. Keep going north to Yukon & get above the Arctic Circle for 24 hr sun in July. It is magical to wake up at 3:00 am & walk outside to see the sun above the horizon, particularly in Tuk on the shore of the Arctic Ocean. We waiting until we were in our mid 60’s. Wish we had done that trip when we were your age. ❤️👍
Glad you guys enjoyed my home province!! The Alberta Rockies are the BEST!
2nd best. B.C. is better.
Even with the smoke it’s still a beautiful video. Thanks guys.
Smoky here in BC. We are now on our Prince George to Whistler leg, 4 days ahead of you before you turned in Jasper. Best wishes and we will be following your adventures!!
Thanks for the Canadian tour. Be careful to not run or exercise when you are in poor air quality due to wildfires or any pollution. It is not healthy can cause serious respiratory problems, illness and infection. Be mindful and enjoy your travels. Aloha from Maui. ❤
Hopefully you ok on Maui your fires are awful
OMG are you in Maui? i have been praying for you all!😊❤
When they get to Vegas Jimmy and Natalie are joining up with an Elvis Impersonator group where Jimmy sings lead while Natalie does the dancing.
Love you guys. You’re so respectable and lovable.
Still loving your journeys years later
My wife and I are from Canada, and a few years ago we travelled down to the Grand Canyon. Guess what, it was full of smoke from forest fires. Very disappointing, so we understand how you feel. Maybe you'll get back there and maybe we'll get back to the Grand Canyon. Enjoy the videos, keep it up.
That road down from Jasper toward Banff is one of the most beautiful drives in the world.
What a shame the fires were so bad this year. I've never been through there when you couldn't see the beauty😢
Thanks for coming and can't wait til you both come again✌🏻❤️🤍🇨🇦
My guess: Nat has won a seat on the World Poker Tour, and Jimmy will be making a special guest appearance on the Cirque Du Soleil?
I grew up in Northwest Territories- the northern lights are spectacular, they fill the sky- in the winter we see them much earlier because it is so dark.
My older brother, doing what older brothers do, told me that if you clap your hands, the lights would come down and take you away. To stop that, you have to whistle. It always seemed that the lights would come down to earth. The trouble was I could not whistle.
I'm pretty sure your brother has that backwards, you whistle to make them brighter and clap to drive them away.
THX for the sticker! This was a great wrap to your Canadian tour trip! You guys are awesome and I know Jimmy is a very blessed man to have Natalie by his side! I love watching you two having fun and just being yourselves. Thanks for taking us along. I know we are ALL enjoying being along for your ride! :-) Can't wait to see where your journey takes you next.
Another fantastic video! Thank you for taking me along!
It's a real shame you had to cut your Canadian trip early. Those damned wildfires have been ruining the whole summer fir most Canadians. It would've been nice if you could've seen Vancouver, Victoria and the rest of the west coast, consideri g how spectacular the scenery is out there. Now that you've gotten to experience the beauty of our country, i hope you'll visit us again. Canada's so big that there's still much for you to see, like most of Ontario, Quebec, the Atlantic provinces, and BC.
Lake Edith & Lake Annette have great paths that take you all the way around. The lakes are small and motorized boats are not allowed so the water stays super clear. Great for paddle boards, canoes!
There are several different Northern Lights notification. You put in your area and if the Northern Lights become active in the area that you put in you will be sent a text. That way you can stay in bed asleep until you hear the text
Sorry, but, we had the best trip of our lives going to Alaska. The Yukon was the best part of our adventure. The people of the Yukon was the adventure. In a few minutes of interaction, we became part of their community. So many people were so welcoming and friendly. After many years of traveling the world, a smile and simple questions of their lives includes us in the experience of their life. We have loved everywhere we have gone and the people we have interacted with.
Best time to travel in Canada is autumn, late September thru October. Bugs are gone, colours are amazing, cooler temperatures, fires are usually out, and fewer tourists. The beginning of November is good some years, but snow can arrive early. Come back and enjoy our views!👍
The problem is if one is camping, they shut down camp grounds and access to fresh water and dump stations far sooner then one might think at some campgrounds so the problem becomes trying to camp at that time of year if relying on camp grounds and access to water. There doesn't seem to be any standard closing date so in Alberta for example quite a few will close Sept 4th, some the middle of Sept, some the end and a few will dribble into Oct and a very few remain open all year around but at that point there certainly would be no access to water for the obvious reasons.
@charlesb4267 Good points to be aware of. I'm usually off-grid and not dependent on those services, so that didn't occur to me. Thanks for pointing that out.👍
Leach Lake on the old highway from Jasper townsite to Athabasca Falls is a small spring fed warm lake. Don’t let the name scare you you.
@@NorthernRetreat Dare I ask where you get water from as its hard to get water from sources other than camp site or facilities that have dump stations etc in towns ( and they winterize them for the winter as well ). Also just speaking of in season time frames for camping in Canada, there is no off grid camping allowed within national parks which is the same as in the USA and makes it difficult to visit the large national parks if one can't afford a camp site or literally can't get a spot as they are INSANELY busy during the summer. Years back it never seemed so insane in the parks but that certainly has changed.
@@charlesb4267 think you're talking about organized camping whereas I'm interested in unorganized, off the trail, logging roads kind of camping. Some of the best was done on Haida Gwaii and Vancouver Island in the off season. Drive down their west coasts and camp anywhere a logging road takes you. I'm in Northern Ontario, same thing. Remote lakes and roads but travel trailer country it isn't.
Your so young and have plenty of time to redo this trip later on. It looks like you’re adapting Natalie, a couple videos ago you needed your inhaler. That smoke is not good for your lungs. Thanks for sacrificing yourselves, your videos are always a wonderful experience.
Still love watching you in Canada. Glad to hear your coming back and to BC and then Nova Scotia and New Brunswick 😊
The 🌲 are beautiful! Thanks for sharing the video.
the smoke is just horrible even here in PA
I am older and so much enjoy your vibrant videos...stay safe and explore the world...fantastic couple and so much more is coming I hope
Thanks for coming. Hope you come back. Save journey home.
bummer about the smoke. I live in edmonton and its been common the last couple years. Jasper is much better than Banff IMO. thanks for taking us along on your adventure!
Cold water swimming convention? Campervan races at the speedway? Just the irresistable charm of Las Vegas in August?
Hope you have a safe and fun week.
Sorry you didn’t get to see the Northern lights!😢
Next time you want to see the Northern lights... go to sleep early and set you alarm for three am. Don't stay up late. go to bed early. The sky is clearest in the predawn, if there's no forest fires.
I hope touring Vancouver Island and the sunshine coast are on you agenda for your BC trip this summer. The Okanagan is also lovely
Thanks for sharing Jim&Nat ,seeing my country is a bucket list thing for me . I'm turning 58 this year with health issues my options are very limited now with out help to travel. So I live through others traveling the country and it's been my pleasure to watch you kids .Smiles 😃from Huntsville Ontario 🇨🇦
Nice of you to visit Canada, hope to see you again soon
Happy you enjoyed what you've seen of Canada.
Glad you both enjoyed Canada! It's the BEST!
The smoke from the fires in Canada is drifting down to Michigan, Minnesota, and parts of Wisconsin.
You had a great time in Canada. Safe travels. ❤
Glad you enjoyed your time in Canada
Have a great trip and also be safe
Cool. Like the plung. B safe in u travels.
Take care of your health! You can always go back another time. Love your videos
I agree, health is important.
Stay safe on your continued journey and may you be blessed.
Don’t forget about the East Coast of Canada, the scenery and people are amazing !
Love that you made the best out of a tough situation! Very creative theme, and it counts. “My pants fell off” look by Natalie, priceless. Love what’s coming next!
Excellent video. Thank You..
Yeah! Jimmy and Natalie on Monday for the win! Thanks for making my day. ❤
kitten wrangling in the new arena
Have a wonderful trip home. Love you both God Bless
It's been cloudy and raining for the last few days, now I know it's because you left and took your smiles 😊. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit.
Thanks for a very fun trip to Canada. Such a beautiful country.
I'm so sad that you didn't get to enjoy Jasper, it really is stunning. The same thing happened to my aunt and uncle a couple of years ago. They came all the way from New Zealand to do the Rocky Mountaineer and got completely smoked out. It's so disappointing, but that's summer in Canada these days. You'll have to come back, there's so much of this beautiful country you still have to see.
I hope you get to see the Northern Lights soon. They can be elusive, but if you get a solid showing it's one of the coolest things you'll ever see.
FYI: Highway 93 (Icefield parkway), if you follow it south to the border, it remains the same highway number on the U.S. side of the border and you can take 93 all the way to Lost Wages.
Beautiful

So glad you guys overall had a wonderful time in Canada.
It sucks the wildfires put a wrench in some of your fun, but I hope you come back one day to explore lots of BC.
I loved the Easter eggs that were in here! I can’t wait to hear what y’all have planned!!
I just want to thank you guys for sharing your video I have really enjoyed it all I'm disabled so I don't get out I have followed y'all from the start and love every minute. God bless 🙏🙏 y'all
I have enjoyed watching your videos of Canada, and am so happy to hear you will be visiting BC next year. There is so much to see there. If you include Wells Grey Park in your itinerary, you will not be disappointed, it is incredible. I am sure that you will be swamped by suggestions. Thanks again for entertaining and educating us.
I have really enjoyed your trip through Canada, love all your videos.
It’s to bad that you couldn’t see Jasper in its glory. You’re more then welcome to come back anytime you like. Good luck in all your journeys, present and future and God bless.
Glad you guys enjoyed Canada, in a typical Canadian fashion sorry for all the smoke putting a damper on your last few days, you're welcome back anytime.
Hey guys :) Great trip I have been there when there was no smoke it is very beautiful in the mountains, BC definitely will be a awesome trip :) Early Sept when the leaves are changing if possible,
Safe Travels 🫂🫂🫂
Looks like you're having fun!
My guess for next week.. getting married in Vegas! 😁
Awesome adventure!
Loved your Canadian adventures! Hopefully you will have a meetup in Vegas! We only live an hour away. 🙂
Well. You get what you get… next time you’re going to have great weather and no smoke! Thanks for sharing your adventures.
🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Awesome stuff guys
If you call it a "Try"athalon... You nailed it! (You did much better than I would have!)
It's too bad that you couldn't enjoy Abraham Lake and the area more. It is so beautiful around there. For me, it's a day trip as I only live a few hours away. Glad you could enjoy our province!!
I know how you feel about leaving Canada. I spent a lot of time working in Canada and always felt welcomed by the residents. I did get to see some of the sights, but not nearly as much as I'd like. I always planned to return as a tourist after I retired, but that has not happened due to health and financial issues. So, you two are my vicarious travelers. I so enjoy watching your channel, so keep it going. I'm a MIchigander, and there is some beautiful sights to be seen in my native state, especially in the upper penisula. I would strongly recommend coming back through "da U P" on one of your trips. BTW, my wife Karen and I recently had our Golden Anniversary, and even though no body remembered except us, I would recommend that you two tie the knot when you are ready. In my humble opinion, you have the right "stuff" to have a fantastic life as a married couple. Safe travels! And, you are more than welcome to park on our property on a trip through Michigan.
Great adventures in the Rockies. You'll enjoy BC next year too. Don't forget to visit Atlantic Canada sometime too!
They said those lights might come down as low as Maryland but they didn’t. They have said that a couple of times but it’s never happened in the area where I live. We are only about a 45 minute drive from the PA border. But we also had the smoke from those fires almost as thick here you could actually taste it.
You are such a fun couple, I love your videos.
Jimmy and Natalie I have been following you guys for a few months now what an incredible adventure and I’m sure glad you loved our beautiful country Canada. Can’t wait to see what’s gonna happen in Vegas oh and by the way I’ve been following you in the gray Honda Civic lol
The problem with all the forest fires is that you WILL have to return to see the mountains and wildlife. I had a lot of elk in the Provincial Parks in Jasper and Banff.
Thank you very much. Great video cheers :)
More of an outtake than a blooper 😊
There are apps that tell you the chance of the northern lights. You don’t have to stay up all night….
But the smoke definitely ruins the visibility.
On a clear night, a camera, even your phone’s may see the lights before your eyes do.
Unfortunately forest fires here in Alberta have become an annual summer hazard. Thanks for bringing attention to this as people in the US are largely unaware of how bad it can be. Wildfires have been described as an environmental canary in a mine. Scary stuff
no forest fires in February
Its typically dry as in dead grass on the forest floor come spring after the snow melts before the grass greens up and rains vary from year to year, its typical fluctuations of nature. The fires on the other hand, they don't just pop up on their own unless its lightening or man made. This year from some reports I have heard behind the scenes as well as officially, it would appear as though multiples fires have been purposely set as in arson ( or put another way, climate change nut cases causing the fires ). In Nova Scotia, same thing as they know some of the forest fires they had this year were purposely set.
Arizona has had forest fires almost every year. Oregon and Idaho were on fire last year. Forest fires are horrific but they rejuvenate the Forest.
@@MelissaMalzahn Yes, aside from the man made caused fires to fit an agenda I referred to, there is the natural rejuvenation created by forest fires and some trees such as pine trees for example do not open up their hard cones containing seeds unless they are subjected to a fire. That theme that used to exists with Smokey the Bear that all fire is bad, that was discovered to be completely wrong. However on a human level we don't want to see our houses burned down, nor would that squirrel or bird that calls a tree home and dies in a natural fire. That is why in some national parks they have controlled burns to try and mimic nature.
@@charlesb4267 Please, please, please, DO NOT spread the misinformation that arson by climate activists is responsible for the wildfire situation. I've also seen people on the internet saying certain ethnic groups are setting fires and that a certain Asian country is starting them with space lasers.. Misinformation is very destructive to the fabric of our society. If you don't have absolute proof of this, don't say it. In other words, STFU.
Great video guys!! I am sorry you didn’t get to see the northern lights!! That just means the next time will be even more amazing 😃
Due to clouds we rarely see northern lights on Vancouver Island. And those who see them they are out 1-4am. Northern part of the provinces you see more.
I'm from jasper and saw you guys walking downtown when you were in Jasper! You should have stayed a few days and waited it out because the smoke was gone in a couple day, then we had clear sunny weather! But I guess you'll just have to come back now! Thanks for visiting!
And also Abraham lake is actually a river flood plain
Hopefully you’ll hit Waterton Lakes! Can’t wait to see your vids next year! You’ll love BC!
Peace
I’ve been to the top of Whistler Mountain once and it was so beautiful. Enjoy your trip! Goldie in Jacksonville Florida
Same thing happened to us when we visited Glacier NP. The smoke obliterated the beautiful views. We hope to go back someday to see it in all its glory! I totally understand your disappointment. A good reason to return! The joys of travel…being prepared for anything and everything, right???
I’m sorry guys about having to leave. It sure would be nice if you could see the Northern lights.
Really--you made it all this way and are taking a miss on British Columbia??? The coast is gorgeous. You only posted this an hour ago I'm hoping you'll reconsider if you're still on the road. There's no smoke in Vancouver. I'm in Ontario at the moment but I live in Vancouver. You wouldn't regret it!! I highly recommend it. Stay safe and happy travels.
I've never been to Banff or Jasper...or Alberta/Manitoba for that matter. Watching your videos definitely has me thinking I want to do a visit soon!
Look forward to seeing what you've got planned for Las Vegas...a city I have visited many times.
You didn't save the best for last because leaving before seeing BC you missed the best.🤗
Great video.
19:00 mark: But you were in BC, at Takakkaw Falls and the nearby campground in Yoho National Park.
....but I know what you mean. It will be good for you to take lots of time to explore lots of British Columbia.
Cheers, from Vancouver Island :) Thanks for your wonderful video work.
You guys are awesome 👍👍👍
it's a shame about the fires. I feel especially sorry for the European tourists who spend tens of thousands to come here expecting a trip of a lifetime, and end up seeing nothing. It didn't use to be like this! Now it seems to happen every year.
I hope you guys got to take in Athabasca Falls !
