When you are shaving your face, they say to do it dry, but DO NOT. That is literally the worst thing for your skin. We shave our legs wet, our arms (if you shave there) and our face should be the same. Use warm water first, use a gentle cleanser like cetaphil as a film, and then use gentle strokes with the razor.
Shaving dry can be highly irritating to the skin. And you are only supposed to do it once every 4 weeks. My skin always comes out smooth and stays clear. Also make sure you wash your face afterwards again with the same cleanser, and then use something like micellar water to remove extra dirt. I usually use baby lotion for a moisturizer. And that’s it. No harsh chemicals, nothing to clog my pores. It’s been working for me.

I don’t think it’s the dermaplaning, it might be the makeup right after. I would never run a blade on the top layer of my skin and put make up right after. I usually do this at night and put gentle and hydrating moisturiser right after and let the skin heal all night before harsh products or sunlight exposure.
Edit: I am not saying that it’s never dermaplaning. I am saying just in this case the reason for the reaction might be the makeup.

For healthy skin, here's what worked for me: First thing in the morning, start by properly cleansing your face. Use mild gentle face wash only like I use riceberrry facewash of littleexttra and then follow with moisturizing your face. Riceberry has antioxidants which protects my skin from free radicals and thus prevents aging. Do not overcleanse your face. Only cleanse it in the morning and before bed. Ensure to moisturize your face throughout the day. Also, don't neglect sunscreen, even indoors. Dry skin exposed to the sun can lead to white patches on the skin. Therefore, it's important to keep your skin hydrated and shield it from excessive sun exposure.

This is how i do it,
    Gentle skin cleanser
    Foaming cleanser
I apply a Thick layer of aloevera gel and then shave
Wipe off using toner (I use rose hydrosol)
    Moisturize with Saffron based moisturizer
I do this at night and leave overnight followed by sunscreen as usual everyday and no makeup for the next 10-15 hours.

What happened is the you also removed the top layers of skin and was more exposed to the elements and bacteria. You didn't have protection over your skin or time to heal in a sanitary way. Exfoliation requires you to be very careful and keep your skin clean and moisturized to create a protective barrier. Putting makeup after and bacteria mixed with oil, product just congested your hair follicle and infected your skin. And if your tried drying skin products to kill bacteria without hydrating your skin produced more oils to make up for the dryness. Healing, calming and hydrating products would help more. You may have gone to heavy with the blade as well, causing extra damage. do not try at home. Even as an esthetician, I had other technicians do exfoliating treatments on me.

    1. don't put makeup on for a whole day after shaving your face
    2. use a clean blade every time
    3. moisturise as your shaving and moisturise HEAVILY after
    4. don't use any acids serums or lots of skincare after, keep it simple with just a moisturiser (I use the Neutrogena hydro-boost water gel)
    5. do NOT shave over acne. Be very careful when shaving over acne or even acne scars, it can cause you to break out more and can make your acne much worse
Just a few tips but just remember if you are shaving your face you are heavily exfoliating your skin to the point that it will become very sensitive. Be careful with your skin after and make sure to hydrate!!

Agree. It irritates the hair follicles TERRIBLY over time, especially as the hair begins to grow in again. Little bumps that look like fungal acne start up and the texture becomes bumpy. No matter how intelligently you go on to use your skincare treatment products, some skin just deals terribly with dermaplaning.

  • @katieisweird
    @katieisweird Před 2 lety +2683

Tip I learned, don’t do this on a dry face. Buy aloe gel, smear that on the areas of your face you’re going to shave and then have at it. Your face is freaking out because it’s not used to being hairless and receiving this type of heavy exfoliation. The sebum on your face wants to over produce to compensate for it, thus causing acne. So Using aloe will keep moisture to your face while doing this procedure and then after add a hyaluronic acid serum.

    • @denden8372

I very seldom shave my face but yes totally agree! I use aloe gel when doing it. I also soak a cotton pad with a hydrating toner and use it to wipe off any leftover hair and dead skin. I then apply a generous amount of the same toner and the same aloe gel. But then again, dermaplaning doesn't work for everyone, so it might've just been that she was unlucky and tried something that her skin didn't personally like, which is really unfortunate and it's great that her skin healed :>

There are definitely many things you did wrong that could have affected the outcome. 1. You didn’t use any creams or products on your face to help smoothen the shaven process, I use aloe gel when I shave my face, you could use other things too. 2. You put makeup on right after!! Never do this, let your skin rest for a day or two after this because you’re also shaving off dead skin. 3. You didn’t use a moisturizer or shaving toner afterwards, which you should do to help your skin have a barrier while it’s still vulnerable from shaving the peach fuzz off. Please do your research before trying anything again, because if you do it right this should NOT happen, unless you’re predisposed to it or have very sensitive skin. I’ve been shaving my face for about 1 and a half years now so i’ve learned about it and have never had this happen to me. Even though I do have sensitive skin. Also if you do this again, clean the blade every time you use it, and don’t go too hard on your face.

(Personally I use heavy cream Nivea and I’ve had no issue but then again that’s my skin). As well always shave downwards never shave upwards. Before shaving though I recommend washing your face to remove any dirt or dead skin that you have on your face. After you’ve done that if you use serums put that on your face and moisturize. Keep hair off your face as your hair does carry dirt and can make you break out. Wait until the next day to let your hair down. After that you’re golden :D

If I put shaving gel on my face I'd probably end up with cystic acne too from an allergic reaction. If I get a reaction like that it will take me 3 or 4 months to heal. Just cause you can use it on your legs don't mean you can use it on the face. The face is one of the most sensitive areas of the body. Get to know your skin & be gentle. I have the most sensitive skin ever & I don't ever have this problem. I only do it every couple weeks on clean dry skin & moisturize after.

It’s just shaving. I’ve been shaving my face since I was 10 years old. It’s in the financial interest of estheticians to pretend that this is an incredibly delicate medical procedure that no amateur should be performing at home. It’s ridiculous to say that billions of men can shave their faces daily, but woman somehow can’t. I’m not downplaying what happened to you OP. Of course, people should be very careful when trying this for the first time, especially if they know they have sensitive facial skin. That said, if you have plenty of experience shaving your own body, and you don’t have an unusually sensitive face, and you know the needs of your own skin, just have at it. Go to town. Estheticians aren’t doctors, this isn’t a medical procedure, and the idea that they can shave an experienced shaver better than she knows how to shave herself is pure nonsense.

Me too! I still have painful pimples but it’s only like one at a time and I think it’s better than all of them at once. I’m okay with one or two pimples on my face now.
I used to think a beautiful face is a perfect face without any blemishes but fortunately, I grew out of that mindset. With the right mindset and a little effort to maintain healthy skin, my skin has been treating me nicely.

@@snehachandel4039 Initially I went crazy and nothing worked except 10% niacinamide, it helped in black dark spots reduction. Now I cut down everything . Using an AHA BHA Foaming face wash morning and sometimes night or just mild baby soap at night depending how sticky my skin is. A spf 15 sunscreen sometimes.. coz am just at home... niacinimide serum then and now only if I feel I'm not gonna get any pimples.. that's it, keep it very simple and once you're clear you can add new products to your routine. I’ve learned with shaving your face, you should clean your skin beforehand, and you shouldn’t touch your face at all 30 minutes after you shave. Doing this prevents infections and painful breakouts like this one.

Dermoplaning (or however its spelled) is so finicky for people and different skin. Its worked really well for me and actually helped clear up some of my acne, but my sister it just made it worse and left her skin really upset and irritated. Its all trial and error with something as delicate as skin ♡♡♡

Wow! I shave my face about once a month. I do the full thing and it's amazing. I sometimes get a bump here or there but I'm not sure if it was already going to just happen. 🤷‍♀️ My dermatologist prescribes me strong acne creams and a face gel that takes off the top layer of skin. It's also for acne but it works better as a strong peel I think. It's amazing for blackheads! He loves botox and supports all the things I do for my skin. I love him and drive 4 hours to see him! But I will shower, wash my face with a benzoyl peroxide face wash. Then shave in the shower. My boyfriend put a mirror in there and he loves it lol I do too! Then I put a thin layer of my benzoyl peroxide and clindamycin cream. It will dry me out! Bad! So then the next morning I do a moisturizer and my skin is amazing!!! I also only use a new blade every time and try not to put makeup on for at least a day or two just in case. That is where a lot of bacteria is located. Of course I had help from a dermatologist to do this properly so that is probably why mine goes so well. I did have it go kind of bad once. I was on vacation and noticed a mustache! I freaked out and shaved it! Bad bumps and I was soo sad!!!

You should wash your face before and after shaving,
So wash off whatever you may have on your face with a get cleanser, Pat until your all dry! Then before shaving apply something like an emulsive cleansing oil to your dry face and keep it on while you shave your face (NEVER SHAVE WITH A DRY FACE AND RAZOR!!! ) you can rub the oil cleanser into your face and add water so there’s more slip while you shave. since it’s an oil cleanser, once you finish shaving the hair you can wash it off until it’s all milky and gone, take a regular cleanser and wash your face, then use BHA or AHA or both, I personally use the ordinary salicylic acid serum or the salicylic acid toner, both work very well!

Ahhh thank god i came across that video , recently even i was thinking to shave my face i was influenced by those beauty hacks and vidoes that removing facial hair will make your skin more glowy and helps makeup to set better , its true and i knew abt the effects of shaving face may also lead to acne for some people or if not done properly so i didnt dare earlier but recently i was thinking maybe as long as i do it in a proper way it wont trigger my acne but now i think its fine with facial hair , its natural we dont need to be ashamed of it and its better not to take this risk , like who knows when will your acne burst sfter doing that , and always remember the acne wont start up immediately it will probably start after few days or one week thats why dont try it if you are just influenced by the videos and remember everyone has facial hair its not necessary to remove them its natural and as long as you stay confident in yourself no one can stop you from slaying girllll!!!!✨🤝

I share a similar story. I'm a super hairy Indian girl and I waxed my face and suffered similar severity of acne for nearly 10 months. I used to wake up with a painful and hot face every morning with 10-12 new pimples. It was like a never ending cycle and the prescription medicines were so harsh and drying to my skin that I even suffered from severe skin barrier dysfunction for a few weeks, resulting in not able open my mouth properly. I didn't give up though and today what's left with me are just the scars.
I still get pimples only during my periods which subside in a day or two and my skin is doing fine. I'm never going for severe skin procedures anymore.

I used to shave my face because that made my skin really smooth and but after sometimes I had these pimples and dark spots they're terrible. My friend told me she had the same issue. Shaving face is not for everyone because everyone's skin is different and cope up differently.

I don't know if what I'm doing is right, but it has not caused any problems, yet. I thought the best would be to combine the prep we do before shaving and also to take insights from men's shaving routine. Cleanse and exfoliate before shaving, absolutely no dull blades, sanitize the blade before shaving, shave on wet face. Then sanitize your face after shaving (remember, men use aftershave for a reason). Finish with a calming moisturizer, exfoliate again after a few days.
If we have to exfoliate and moisturize to prevent ingrown hair from shaving elsewhere, why wouldn't you need it especially for your skin
