    The most messed up Eldar weapon for me is the 'Harlequins Kiss', a wrist mounted monofilament launcher that fires the wire into your body, pulps flesh and bone turning you into a flesh sack of goo then the wire retracts back into the Kiss again. Nasty!

    Caliber just means how wide a projectile is. A 9mm bullet is 9mm's wide, etc. You could use caliber to describe the width of a beam, or you could use collimation, where the rays of light are parallel to one another and there is no diffusion over distance. "The laser has a collimation of 10mm", that sort of thing.
    In the real world, diffraction would prevent this, but we're talking about space elves, so....

    Eldar weapons, from incredibly weeby with shurikan weapons to incredibly terrifying with literal Warp blackhole launchers. Eldar really have some cool weapons like their chainswords, brightlances, the various polearms, fusion guns, prism weapons, and the nightmare fuel that is the D weapons.

      Honestly, the D-Scythe might be the most horrifying weapon in the 40k universe, from a survivors standpoint.
      The D-scythes seperate their targets souls from their bodies, killing them instantly, and in a flamer-like pattern. What makes them so horrifying is that they emit no sound or light while firing and that they leave behind no visible injuries on the bodies.
      Imagine being a guardsman being ordered to hunt down a squad of wraithguard because they've been giving your armored company trouble all week. You find them and charge, as your sarge says their D-Cannons aren't effective against small, fast moving targets. Unfortunately for your squad, these Wraithguard are actually armed with D-Scythes, turn slightly, look and point their guns at you and 9 out of 10 men just die and keel over mid charge, tumbling over one another. A surviving guardsman must think Wraithguard can kill with a thought after that.
      Even better, a hemlock wraithfighter strafes a trench and everyone inside just falls over dead without any warning.
      Fucking horrifying.

    The ranger longrifle is kinda unique as a laser weapon, cause its not just a laser that comes out of the barrel. There's also a superlight monomolecular needle that gets propelled by said laser beam and into the target at near lightspeed. So it does both thermal and kinetic damage.
    Why not stay on a roll and make the next one on the Drukhari? They have all the disturbing haemonculus weapons like the flesh gauntlet and the ossifactor. They also interestingly use particle cannons instead of lasers like their craftworld cousins, which are more powerful. They are probably the faction with the hardest hitting weapons in the setting, even above craftworlds and the necrons.

    1. The Eldar Chainswords make honestly a lot more sense the Imperial ones, they are much, much lighter and more elegant, the blade rly just adds a "saw"-action to the cutting without an additonal input from the wielder, beside they are almost silent even when activated.
    2. The Shuriken weapon are honestly terrifying, imagine you get pierced by a dozen razor sharp objects you barely can actually see, even trough most body armor a human(oid) can wear.
    3. The Weapon Teams (and Artillery Teams) honestly seem like a influence from the past, since GW doesn't show much love for Eldar (at all) these seem out of style nowadays, same goes most likely for the War Walker, design-wise.

      The actual penetration of shuriken weapons isn't that much to write home about--it's how they're used. They basically use a "beam" of shurikens to dissect unarmored locations from the body. Or at least try to, dire avengers are a lot better at this than guardians are.

Apple-bros will insist that apple products are better and higher quality, even though they do the exact same things as other companies' phones and products. • @BlackChrom3
      @BlackChrom3 Před 4 měsíci +4

      What? as was already mentioned: Eldar technology actually IS better? And not only spoken as a "fanboy" but also in rules: Eldar always had the "better" version for it's specific job. Brightlance had rules to show their superiority against heavy targets (be it that higher AV didn't matter or more Damage than a same sized laser cannon.) D-Cannons are a class of their own in devastation and rules (which often results in issues because their rules break the game or are not close enough to the lore). Shuriken always were better than bolter (expect range - which apparently is a result of GW nerfing them when being a stormbolter with assault was actually insane ruleswise). Scorpions had better chainswords. The claw was a better powerfist. And so on. And this is not taking lore into account, which was also mentioned: Easy to mass produce and safe - we don't see D-Cannons everywhere because they are dangerous, scarce and too complex like many imperial weapons but simply because they are associated with a "horrendous" practice in the eldars eyes (Wraith constructs - since, you know, eldar actual have at least some moral standards by 40k levels) and the whole aspect idea (hence why it is explained in the lore that eldar don't use their most overpowered shit like drones and automata since they fear a similiar result like with the birth of Slannesh: Exodites being the extreme version of that and with the Drukhari showing the actual side of "unregulated" eldar with planet-destroyers as trinkets to wear as fashion; immortality through perfect cloning; and stealing suns with the snap of a finger). We see most other heavy weapons readily available with the limit being bodies, not weapons or ressources (best example is the Wraithknight - you know, a super walker that inspired the imperial knights, which are seen as super weapons ... while the eldar use it mainly for harvesting soulstones. The limiting factor here is not the Wraithknight which apparently is "disposable" enough to be a glorified farmer, but the twins operating the wraithknight).

    In real life we describe lasers in a lot of different ways, but "Beam Diameter" is an acceptable measurement. Sometimes people talk about the Beam Waist or 1/e^2 diameter, but they're all basically referring to how "wide" the laser beam is at its focal point.

  • @gwilliam2731
