I've spent hours looking at marine storage options , marine compartment doors and fabricating my own out of Star Board ... I never thought about the tailgate! .. too bad it's not for an 09 😢

yes we do! But you would need to remove your step to make it work. We have not done this process before so are not 100% sure what is involved and if it is a simple as just unbolting it.
How about 2nd gen Tacoma? Noticed responses to working on 3rd gen. Been wanting a better tailgate option, knowing storage was possible! This looks great.
We have a rain seal available for those who don't have any sort of cover over the tub/bed. In Australia most people have a canopy or tonneau cover, but this seems less common in the USA and many people run with open beds.

Will this have any affect on the tailgate camera and is there any hydraulic lift assist suitable to work in conjunction with this? Am soo badly wanting to buy 1 but am also wondering if they are water tight
@@rhysc375 - Would be really cool/useful if the bottom half of the storage unit could be molded from abs or hdpe, which might not only allow for more useable (wider/deeper) storage capacity but this might also help reduce fabrication time and/or shipping weight (...just some design thoughts:) All the best to you & Huracan Fabrication in 2021!

Hey mate yes there is a rain seal which we sell that goes along the top edge and keeps rain out if you have an open tub!

It weighs about 40 lbs for Tacoma. Yes you can still use the lowering assist in combination with our storage design.

Most certainly, this lid is stronger than the factory tailgate once installed.

We have looked into plastic injection molded tubs but the tooling cost is astronomical and we would need a new mold for each design :-(
