    We are thankful for the hail netting we purchased this year. However, moving forward we will be evaluating if gardening is worth the blood sweat and money for the small yield we get here. The Black Hills of SD consist of the perfect conditions for hail storms…ranging from pea size to golf ball size on a frequent basis.

    Awww darn it Lisa!!! I know how frustrating that must feel! I’m so glad the hail netting you have helped and I’m glad the greenhouses survived. You are right it could have been so much worse and good call on that hail netting! I think you’re being realistic and you’re in problem solving mode. I love that you’re always real about things! Hugs friend! 🤗❤

Def being realistic and trying to find a happy medium money/time/effort wise because why throw good money after bad ya know? It happens every year for crying out loud! Thanks again Tammy

      Thank you Tina. Ugh I’m sorry you have had gardening losses also. Hail is so common here you would think I would be used to it hitting the garden. But nope. Each year I am shocked lol. I’m over my pity party. However we will be evaluating the garden size for next year and adding more bulk local produce cases. It makes good financial sense. I can’t grow unless under a hail net. Thank you so much for your kindness and friendship. Appreciate your wise words.

    So sorry about your garden Lisa. I hear what your saying about buying local. Maybe thats a good idea, downsize the garden to a more manageable size to protect from hail. But believe me, I am no stranger to putting hard work into something and then seeing it destroyed, (Remember the cows in my orchard)

    • @YogiHollowFarm

    WOW! So much hail. That's crazy. I'm sorry you had so much damage but I'm glad it wasn't baseball sized hail. But it still has to be such an emotionally upsetting experience. I don't think you are being rash. That's a big hit. If you do decide to continue gardening... maybe something more like a chicken run... with chicken wire and the hail netting as the ceiling. But I totally wouldn't blame you if you decide the outcome isn't worth the effort to garden there. Long distance hugs.

    • @YogiHollowFarm
      @YogiHollowFarm  Před měsícem

      Thanks Dawn. We appreciate your hugs and kindness so much! It could have been much worse for sure if we did not have the hail netting. I’m still deciding. I just can’t keep spending all this time energy and money for little or to have it all obliterated. It’s a huge emotional toll because of me! I am so passionate about growing our own food I put so much pressure on myself to do it. Then there is the worry about the animals. Thank goodness the adult pigs know the drill. The piglets must have followed mom inside or they were nursing at the time. Eleanor had them behind her head at that wall. God bless that great momma! Thanks again Dawn. Appreciate you and the suggestions so much!

    I'm so sorry Lisa. But....from looking at the plants in the video, most look like they will bounce back. I'm glad the hail netting worked, altho it had some sags with the collected hail. I hear where you are coming from. Being discouraged by something totally out of your control is a hard pill to swallow. Yeap, believe me....I get discouraged too with out weather. But I just won't give up. Stubborn is my middle name lol

    • @YogiHollowFarm
      @YogiHollowFarm  Před měsícem

      Thanks friend. Some will bounce back and others will not from having ice lay on them so long. The main broccoli crowns were just starting to come in and many were broken off. It’s defeating for sure. I know between pests and your weather you have your own challenges. Next year if no hail netting completely on it I am not doing it. It’s maddening because why should I grow when I can have a ton more buying produce cases from local farms? We shall see and this too shall pass. Thanks so much for the hugs friend
