- In today's video we will be learning how to buy an Amtrak train ticket online using the Amtrak website. I received a few comments last week where people expressed that they had some difficulty figuring out how to purchase Amtrak tickets over the internet. So I wanted to do a step by step tutorial and show exactly how it's done.

I'm more than happy to also answer anyone's questions and give travel tips as well on Amtrak travel.
I guess this video is old now and doesn't apply to the current website. I've been on the site for 20 minutes and can't figure out how to find the cost of a trip on the Empire Builder from Portland to Chicago. I use to travel often on Amtrak and always booked on their easy website back then and discounts and deals were clearly listed. Specials ran all the time all over the country. It was even fun to explore and use the site.
Now, the design is much different from the one in this video. Most importantly, no "Book Tickets" tab above the trip information I'm to enter. Are you planning to make an updated video for the modifications they've made?

If you get a room of any sort, your meals in the dining car are include. So take that into consideration. Especially for long multiday trips.
Booking AMTRAK is a nightmare. They should be ashamed.
I don't think booking a ticket online through Amtrak is always as simple as you say it is. For example you cannot buy a ticket from Miami to Toronto, although Amtrak has service from Miami to New York and service from New York to Toronto. I would think they would sell a ticket from Miami to Toronto which specified a change of train in NYC, but they don't, and that doesn't make sense to me.
yep i think the site sucks...even los angles to new orleans is almost impossible to book
Agree the only ticket I could get a price is from Washington DC to Philly.

Sorry but I don’t agree anymore several years ago the cars were clean and the food was fabulous. But today it’s the exact opposite filthy cars broken restrooms terrible food. Somethings changed sad it was a wonderful way to travel. ☹️
I was hoping you would explain and show booking a roomette with more than one person. I was told the roomette pricing on screen is for the room and not per person. This would be beneficial for family travel. Thanks.
Yes the roomette price is for the whole room, not per person.

If I am purchasing a round trip ticket, do I need to go thru the same process again or can I do it all at 1 time like a round trip airline ticket?
Usually it gives you a round trip option. It will all be in one transaction

Thanks I am trying to do a simple (maybe not to Amtrak) roundtrip booking from LA to San Francisco. No night stays, just two one day trips. Can't figure it out. I guess part of the way comin back is by bus. Why would that be? Doesn't the train return? thanks,

What if there is not an amtrak station near you? Do they provide a bus to the Chicago train station? Example: Nashville to San Francisco? Thank you. I am hoping to travel this route in the spring.☺
Jessie C Are you departing from Chicago? Nashville doesn’t have an Amtrak station, either Memphis, Cincy or Indy are relatively close by bus.

I really feel like you could blow up this year if you just invested in your CZcams channel. Just get a used good camera and maybe a good laptop and editing software but either way i hope for the best but i think your content is great just gotta be consistent and improve the quality it will pay off mark my words

Yes that used to be a great way to travel clean cars fabulous food really enjoyed it. But it now has fell into complete failure. Filthy cars broken restrooms terrible microwave food it really sucked. Sad it’s a tremendous way to travel when things are done right. Unless of course something has changed for the better in the last couple of years. 😢 leave a comment if things have improved.
option - go to whole sale food vendor ( cosco ) and bring your own its cheaper - be prepared , and on long trips bring an electric vibrating seat cushion and dress for cold ac its cold inside for a reason .
