Potential optimizations aside, the fact that it draws less power and runs cooler is enough of a sell for me. Thanks for the video!

Anything to help with keeping the old machines going, and the ability to execute instructions up to 30% faster in 6309 mode doesn't hurt!

And NitrOS9 Level 1 (and any games running under it) all get a sped boost as well. Especially the 64x32 column text mode if you have a CocoVGA installed.

That's a cool upgrade, Nice Video. I never owned a Tandy Computer but I did use them in High School. Our lab had Commodore Pets, Apple IIs and TRS-80 Model IIIs. I was always a Commodore guy but at School I liked using the Model III. I probably still have the disk I used for saving my work. No way to read it if I find it, though. Keep up the good work, I am enjoying the retro channels being produced in Canada. Yours, 8-Bit Show and Tell, BASIC Bytes, 65 Scribe and a few others that I can't think of the names at the moment. Good stuff. Thanks!

My school was all Apple 2 computers and then Mac Computers in high school, the first home computer I had was a TRS-80 CoCo 2.

It's a real shame Tandy didn't make the 6309 standard when it came out

At least it is a chip that is still being made so they are easy to find for upgrades.

there needs to be some 6809 project board to put the old chips into

People have been working on all new replacement PCB for the CoCos that will need chips!

Maybe the arcade community? To keep them from using up our 6309 supply! 😜

@@CoCoNutBob The 6309 is one chip for these computers that is still being made today (I think it is used in some government applications) so there is no shortage of brand new ones!

Apparently this also works on the Dragon 32/64, I'm off to eBay :)

You can buy brand new 6309s (yes, they still make them!) from Retro Rewind.

I replaced the Motorola 6809 with the much more capable but also compatible Hitachi 6309.
