      I have a 75 gallon with a Fluval FX6 (intended for 300 gallons.)
      Inside are two Wakin and two feeder goldfish.
      But I never thought setting up a sponge filter with air bubbles was necessary because I have the water exhaust angled upward so it disturbed the water.
      But do you think it’s absolutely necessary? Or am I fine provided I’m doing my weekly water changes?

    Sponge filters are awesome. I have an adult broadtail ryukin and a nymph oranda in a 20 gallon tank. Ideally a larger tank would be better, but they have been in it since so they were small so they have grown into it. The only filtration I have is one large sponge filter and lava rock substrate.
    Weekly maintenance is a 50% water change, glass wipe down and gravel vac.
    I live on a Narrowboat and work nights, the tank temperature in the winter regularly drops below 10C. Despite this they feed are super healthy and have spawned !

    Hey Luke, I love your videos!! I have a chonky boi of my own in a 55 gallon with some bristlenose plecos :) We have the tank cycle during season changes because the weather gets very hot/cold which causes it to cycle once or twice a year. Would you recommend using the beneficial bacteria during water changes, and if so how much do you put since the instructions are ratios for pond volumes? And would you know if this could be a solution to my cycling problems? Thank you!

    • @lukesgoldies
      @lukesgoldies  Před 3 lety +7

    Question for Luke or anyone who uses the product: I just bought the pond bacteria used in the video but it recommends 1/20 a tsp for the size of my tank (65g). Is that right?? Should I really just put a little sprinkle and that’s it??
    Anyways, thanks for any and all opinions!

    • @lukesgoldies
      @lukesgoldies  Před 3 lety +5

      I have a canister with goldies! From the research I’ve done it’s best to get one with high filtration (my 65 has one that runs at 90gph but I’ve seen people with much higher ratios). I love that you can change the bio media in it too. The downside is the cost, so you have to be careful not to break it. Mine has literally saved my tank and now it looks gorgeous!
