I was expecting a connection being made to that weird talking tree from this film... and the freaky _blood bush_ from Dingo Pictures' Pocahontas. In fact, isn't it kinda weird that both Wabuu's origin story AND Wuschel's origin story feature creepy, uncanny, talking plantlife?
i remember as a kid i didn't understand why bambi's father was considered a king. he doesn't rule anything like mufasa or whatever, he literally does nothing but stand majestically in the distance.
His mother said that none of the other bucks lived half so long. He was looked up to because he was faster, cleverer, and longest lived. The longer a stag lives, the bigger it’s antlers grow and the more it is prized by trophy hunters.
I guess the antlers look a little like a crown of some kind? Though, it is ultimately prescient, since "stand majestically in the distance" is basically the job description of royals in the modern era.

With both Roe and White-tailed deer (Bambi's species in books and movies, respectively), the fathers almost never stick around to help raise their young. Among deer, Bambie's father would probably be regarded as being very attentive just because he acknowledged his son's presents and led him to safety shortly afterword. Then there's the implication later (shown outright in the sequel) that the Great Prince actively took his son in after his mother died. Also, I liked the Outsider's reference, Wabbu.

Disney's movie has beautiful animation, especially for the 1940's, but I feel the story is total garbage. In my opinion, the story and script of Disney's adaptation is far inferior to Felix Salten's original book.

Little correction, the name they used for the bunny at 10:42 wasn't "Muumuu", it was "Mümmel". It's a common pet name for bunnies in german, which basically translates to "Nibble". That's probably the reason why knockoff-Thumper was named that in the english dub of Nice Cats. Also, I'm so happy you're still doing Dingo movies after all these years
Fun Fact: Bambi has entered the public domain at the beginning of this year, so expect more Bambi Knock-Offs. Especially to cash in with a possible "Photoreal CGI"(Cause I refuse to call it Live Action) remake of the Disney film.

I hate to admit this, Goldie was my first ever Dingo Pictures movie I brought, because as a kid I though it was related to Bambi before I knew it was a rip-off. Those Dingo films have me nightmares so I got rid of them out of my memories until I stumbled upon your reviews which BTW, great review as usual Phelous. 15:53 Old Man: Why Goldie just got all wet, she’s completely useless now!
1.) I love how Phelous tried to draw Old Man in Dingo's crappy style, but (like most artists) couldn't make it look as bad as the real thing, despite real effort. 2.) That purple 1950s car doesn't look like something Old Man would pick out of a car lot on his own. Obviously a vintage Barbie somewhere left her car door opened a crack, like an invitation.

This is the second time Dingo was mysteriously merciful on its characters (the other being Lord of the Jungle where the villain... was just allowed to go). Come on Dingo! I rely on you to be the children's cartoon makers who aren't afraid to just kill off characters in horrific fashion!
Actually, in Lord of the Jungle they killed off the elephant guy, Tabor, was it? Weird that they killed Tabor, who was likable by Dingo standards, yet they let the hunter who killed him go away scot-free.

Actually that "watch out" and "take care" confusion is probably based in a German idiom. German mothers often tell their children to "pass auf" when they send them to school which is kinda meant as "take care", but is closer to "watch out". One humorous response is "...auf was?" which roughly translates to "What am I supposed to be on the watch for?".
I can totally see a Dingo Defenders of the Realm, with Wabuu Khan trying to conquer Earthrealm for our diamonds. Old Man Raiden, the Ultimate GOD OF USELESS, must gather a team to stop him.
I want Lucy as Sonya. "Kiss my damned hairbrush" And Stryker, Liu Kang and Jax could be played by bears, seeing how whinny and annoying they can be. King Mah Gawd would be a good fit as Rayden. "No, my powers won't work on this realm, it's just not doned".
Damn, that different dub narrator is legit great, better than Dingo deserves frankly. There's so much life and energy to her that she genuinely sounds like she's having a good time with the recording. Much easier to listen to compared with the usual.
This is the only Dingo movie I remember watching on German television when I was young. Or at least I watched part of it. I just remember how my father corrected me when I called the character Bambi, saying something like “No, this is Goldie, not Bambi. (He was probably aware that this was a ripoff.) The memory of this came back to me a while ago while watching another one of Phelan’s Dingo reviews where he mentioned Goldie. Until then I had just assumed that I had missed out on these strange movies from my country. I think because I was so young back then the bad production didn’t stand out to me, so I don’t remember that. Also, do you think the creepy tree and the blood bush could be related?

There are still some old unlabelled VHS tapes lying around in my old home, so it could be on there, but I’m pretty sure those are the ones we recorded from television ourselves. If we had bought it on VHS I’m sure I would have remembered it because I would have rewatched it or at least have seen the cover. But I don’t actually remember the exact circumstances under which I saw it, just this conversation with my dad and that the character looked like Bambi. (For the record there is decent German animation, it doesn’t all look like the garbage Phelan reviews lol.)

Weird how the alternate dub exists on a completely different language DVD and from the line about "Clover was looking for his tea" heavily suggests this is a British dub since tea is also used as meaning for an early evening meal. The mother being in a "Zoo" I guess was them borrowing from 'Dumbo'.

I think it's time that we all recognize Phelan has put in more effort towards the history and preservation of dingo pictures then anybody that ever worked for the company. Can we get a Kickstarter to to buy the rights to this company and bestowed upon this Noble Canadian man?
Actually almost impressed by them gender swapping Bambi and changing the plot line with the mother. Like wow, they actually didn't just straight up retell the story worse. They actually made some very minor changes. Not that it amounts to much, of course
So what do you think happened to the alternate dub? The actress actually saw the "animation" her voice was now a part of and run off into the sunset, or did the geniuses at work fired her? Personally I hope for the former, but expect the latter: "An actual interest in the voice-acting and better translation? Get the damn hell out of here! This is Dingo Pictures, we abhor quality!" Also, I wound like to remind you that there is only one of this dubs, but at least four of the EastWest dub. How sad is that?

It's wierd to hear a bit of the Norwegian dub during the silence version, especially since my native language is Norwegian. I am also familiar with the Norwegian voice actor's voice, she was the original Norwegian narrator for Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends.
As an aspiring animator, Dingo Pictures is so inspiring. If they can make a living creating....this...stuff, then I KNOW I can be a successful animator!

I know it's just usual Dingo laziness recycling backgrounds, but maybe if you're going to make the absence of humans a major plot point you shouldn't have OBVIOUS HOUSES AND FARMLAND IN THE SHOTS.
oh god I remember begging my parents to buy me this DVD when I was younger because I was obsessed with Bambi and was hoping for a great experience, let's just say that I was BEYOND disappointed the best part of the experience as a whole is me trolling my best friend of the time giving her the DVD as a regular gift and really hyped her up for a movie "better than any Disney movie"

Yes! I have been wondering when you would look at this one. I saw this one on a DVD at a Trader's village near me being sold, and thought of you, Phelan.
You know, I think this is one of the few if not the only one Dingo movie where the narrator is actually kind of decent. I actually saw this movie before the Disney one as a kid, so seeing what happened to Bambi's mom after watching the Dingo version was kinda traumatic.

Actually almost impressed by them gender swapping Bambi and changing the plot line with the mother. Like wow, they actually didn't just straight up retell the story worse. They actually made some very minor changes. Not that it amounts to much, of course
So what do you think happened to the alternate dub? The actress actually saw the "animation" her voice was now a part of and run off into the sunset, or did the geniuses at work fired her? Personally I hope for the former, but expect the latter: "An actual interest in the voice-acting and better translation? Get the damn hell out of here! This is Dingo Pictures, we abhor quality!"
Also, I wound like to remind you that there is only one of this dubs, but at least four of the EastWest dub. How sad is that?

It's wierd to hear a bit of the Norwegian dub during the silence version, especially since my native language is Norwegian. I am also familiar with the Norwegian voice actor's voice, she was the original Norwegian narrator for Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends.

oh god I remember begging my parents to buy me this DVD when I was younger because I was obsessed with Bambi and was hoping for a great experience, let's just say that I was BEYOND disappointed
the best part of the experience as a whole is me trolling my best friend of the time giving her the DVD as a regular gift and really hyped her up for a movie "better than any Disney movie"

Yes! I have been wondering when you would look at this one. I saw this one on a DVD at a Trader's village near me being sold, and thought of you, Phelan.
I was in the middle of binge watching Phelous Dingo Pictures reviews and this unexpectedly popped up and I knew it was too good to be true
As soon as I saw the name Dingo all I could say is "Oh the damn hell."
You know, I think this is one of the few if not the only one Dingo movie where the narrator is actually kind of decent.
I actually saw this movie before the Disney one as a kid, so seeing what happened to Bambi's mom after watching the Dingo version was kinda traumatic.
