When I worked on equipment I would come upon a smokers house and I tell ya it really messes up machines! Tape decks,Amps,Cd players, etc. People don't understand what it does to equipment if they would think what it's doing to their insides!

Smoking kills more people every year. Want to cut your life short. Take up smoking.

I followed your procedure and it fixed my Sony BDPS360. Thank you!! Now my kids can watch "The Polar Express"
I have the same Nu-Trol but never used it till today. I have always used the MG Contact Cleaner. I need to learn the differences.

The old formulation of netrol use freon TF as the solvent. This chemical is now banned as it's ozone depleting so mg chemicals had to reformulate and is now based on alcohol as the solvent as opposed to freon. The old stuff has better cleaning capabilities than the newer stuff. The old stuff also used diesel as the lubricant or at least it smells like diesel. The newer formulation uses a non-toxic mineral oil and the reason for that is so that it can be used on food preparation equipment that won't contaminate I can petroleum based lubricant would. It's still a good cleaner although I would give the edge to deoxit. There is a big price difference however, deoxit cost considerably more for the same size can, so for that reason when I have to buy some I usually buy neutral just because it's less money and the results are almost as good.

I've got the 300, 350, 550 and 360. They keep getting cheaper each year they came out. The original BDP-S1 is a tank as are the original Toshiba HD-DVD players based on Pentium computers.

My S360 does not even attempt to Load Disks any more whether that be Blu-Ray, DVD or CD, I checked the usage stats from the Service Menu which you described in another Video, Total Playback was something like 600 hours for Blu-Ray, 200 hours for DVD and about 20 hours for CD so in my mind it’s had very little use considering how old it is, I’m going to pop the top off to see if the Belt’s perished or if the Motor’s seized and will upload it to youtube sometime soon hopefully! You could remove the switch by removing one screw of the switchboard on the bottom side. But anyway, thanks for the video. It encouraged me to disassemble my player.

If not the laser then I know the early Sony units sometime required free space on the USB key to play. Some sort of online logging/buffering. I use to delete entries on the 8G/16G key all the time.

I am having freezing (DVD-R) and not reading Blu-Ray discs with the same model. Did you clean the optics using a dry Q-tip? I know Norcal715 uses ammonia, just want to make sure I use what's right.
Quite the dump of snow we got!!

I have the BDP-BX370 . (what is the s?)It's only 9 inches (23cm) wide. That one looks twice as wide. Great video!
I bet mine would be harder to work on because of less room.
    I love that scenery BD.

Toshiba p.c drives had the same switch problem, i often used servisol for that but it wasn't cheap for how much product you received.
    Like de-oxit, a bank emptier :-(.

so the switch that stops the head when its on beginning point was faulty? I have a ps3 that reads only dvd games, not bluray and cd games. I changed the laser but didn't effect anything.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  Před 2 lety

The switch that detects the tray open was the bad one. The TOC switch i doubt was bad as that would affect all disks. Why it failed to read bd the first time i have no idea but i wasn't making a penny on these.

@@12voltvids Being serious now I suspect it possibly was a dust particle in just the right spot that caused an error when it attempted to read the contents. I've had that happen on a DVD player message "This disk isn't be playable" or something like that.
Playing the DVD in cleared the particle(s) is my guess but who knows what the problem really was at least it worked the 2nd time you tried it 👍👌.
I suppose I should have finished watching the video, but yes indeed smoke film will cause difficulty over time and cause data to be misread that the error correction can't fix. It isn't only cigarette smoke that can cause clouded lenses, units too close to the kitchen will get it too same effect as cigarette smoke. It is likely a person could buy 3 or 4 new machines for the cost of having the entire laser assembly professionally cleaned, provided such companies even exist anymore. The assemblies used to be put together with screws and springs now they are plastic and the parts are glued in place. As you say Dave not serviceable, toss it out or MAYBE replace the laser pickup provided new or used ones are available.
