@@PastelComGini You can't expect being treated like a friend from a busy musician. The're there to work, not to boost people's egos. I once met him at a concert and he was kinda receptive.
Never really liked the guitarists who came after Marty, but damn is this guy awesome. Just seems like a good person and an amazing guitar player.

But you don't have to be a great guitar player to be a great guitar player. Watch the video where Kiko talks a about Kurt Cobain. Playing with heart and having a great riff is just as important.

Kiko became one of my all time guitar heroes along with Friedman and Doug Aldrich, of course so many others but Kiko is great for giving us these videos!!

I love Tornado of Souls and have been trying to play it for years. I got stuck at the part at 9.48 which has the big stretch 12 to 17 and 18 th frets so play it by 2 hand tapping instead. It works but I really should play more and finish the solo. Cheers from Scotland
What kind of guitar do you play? Maybe if you choose an instrument with smaller scale length, like PRS, with 25 inches, this passage turns to be possible. However, change the technic to play the right notes it's not a problem. Good luck!!
You can make that lick sweeping!! I must do it that way because i dont't have big hands and i cannot reach that amount if frets. Kiko himself finish that part sweeping in his video "Practicing Tornado of Souls"

Chunking the info and ensuring connections between sections are smooth feels satisfying to me. Learn it standing up and playing in front of people. One time I walked around the street playing the MacGyver theme without looking as to drill it in. I don't learn any covers now. Just compose my own.
Thank you Kiko from the philippines. Approaching 40s now but could still not play fast enough. Hahaha...wish other guitar heroes would provide lessons and advice like these. Inspires me to pick up the guitar.

Really like how for that Tornado Of Souls solo you put all the small bends, vibratos and accents that make it so awesome and elevates this execution above "simply copy the notes" to "piece of art". So many guitarists tried to play it but without that.. soul :) Fantastic job Kiko.

That's not dystopia. I think it's from his album "Open Source". Can't remember the song right now, but maybe it's called "Overflow".
I agree with kiko on learning solos. Also important to make sure it’s at the appropriate speed. I have a habit of playing things a bit to fast when learning parts and part of my sloppiness comes from that. But it’s important to take your time and get the motions down first.

Played guitar for 16 years and I play well but now when I play, restlessness is what the music is called and I even get angry from playing my guitar.

Really loving your videos Kiko - you make them so approachable. Thank you 🙏. I’d like to ask you a question about learning solos, because when I learn them I have been using the methods you mentioned in this video - and I always use Guitar Pro on my Mac so that I can learn them slowly, with the metronome, repeating until I can get them right, and then increasing the speed over time. I usually learn the whole solo cleanly at 80% speed and then start to increase the speed for everything. This takes a long time and needs dedication. How much more practise does it take you from learning it cleanly to developing the deep muscle memory so that you can play it perfectly every time?
My question for kiko is-Kiko, does megadeth still record as a unit at first? Then add in the layers of tracks later?kiko u seem like an all around awesome dude. Besides being an out of this world talent.
I Heard Dave loves u to death to. And Davd deserves to be surrounded by HIGH CLASS PEOPLE like u. NOT JUST THE BEST METAL GUITAR PLAYERS. Davd deserves good people. I am glad that Dave, who I never met but who has added so much joy to my life has people like u in his band.

How do you do to memorize lots of songs fast as, I think, you did before you joined Megadeth and play in a tour?
Not sure if Kiko has a method..... but I just naturally remember songs when I learn them.

I got better at playing hanger 18 after learning it and playing it over time - after I’d learn the whole solo it got better and better the more used to it I was.

Kiko my question is what can guitarists you do when they hit a plateau or a block in their guitar playing? When you reach a point and stop improving even though you put in hours of practice every day!
I’ve noticed that a lot of the Megadeth guitarists have changed the epic part in Tornado. After the second part in the run, they move up. Even Marty plays it like this now. Is this because the stretch is just too hard to nail it perfectly every time?
He is the coolest, you won't see Marty Friedman, showing the world how to play solos! Marty is to stuck up or hung up on his self to ever do something like this!! This guy is a legend already!! God bless you Kiko!!

01:00 This advise to learn a solo is common advise for guitar but completely backwards compared to any 🎹 piano instruction, the piano instruction will always say things like: start from the end and add small chunks until learning the beginning, never never learn from the start to the end "because it is the worst way to learn", or the piano instructor will insist, break up the solo into phrase chunks and practice from chosen chunks starting in the middle and practice these chunks in random order and then only after learning each phrase very well, then practice playing from beginning to end only after all small chunk phrases are at full speed and played well. See, the piano advice is completely opposite of guitar advice. WHY? I have nooooo idea.
Piano instructor will also insist, absolutely insist, that each hand must be practiced separately, until each hand is playing well nearly at normal tempo, and only after that, play with both hands together. Imagine a guitar instructor saying that, never happen, WHY? I have nooooo idea too.
Hahaha I feel you. I'm no piano expert and maybe there's a specific reason for doing it that way, but honestly you shouldn't even bother about those instructor laws of learning.
The best method for you shall be the one which works best for you! If you like to play it backwards, or underwater, or upside down, or blindfolded... XD you name it. You don't need to convince anyone nor explain why. If it works for you, great!
Btw from a mechanical and muscle memory pov, kikos method is super effective indeed, and is probably what most people (including myself) will naturally tend to do, I guess?
@@b_d The difference is, the piano instructors' methods "supposedly" have been backed up by centuries of data which shows how students learn best. Meanwhile guitar instructors are like: "Oh this is how I learned stuff when I was 15 years old so I'll just teach it that way." One method is informed, the other method is not. Piano instructors in classical style are also elitist & full of their own ego so there is that aspect too. There is no way to "do it the way the student feels best" because it is, do it the instructor's way, or get yelled at by the instructor, only two options exist and no freedom.
@@superblondeDotOrg got it. I guess that's y I despised piano classes when I was a child and eventually turned into guitar. Much more freedom :)
make sure you're relaxed when you play, start very slowly so you don't make mistakes, and don't play the exact same thing for too long
