Thanks for making this video. I've never worked with leather but thinking about making a holster and you answered quite a few questions I had and a couple I hadn't thought of yet. Looking forward to checking out your other videos.
Thank you! This was exactly what i was looking for!!
Love using Double-Shoulders with all the slight imperfections!
Man, this was so helpful! I appreciate you bigtime brother!
Thank you! This was super informative! ❤️🔥❤️🔥
Thank you for answering my questions. You're a cool cat.
Your right, yup, excellent advise, straight shooting, thank you for that, I appreciate and enjoy your vids very much. Personally I’m fortunate enough to live about 100 miles south (2 hours by car) of Leon, Mexico (the world center of veg-tan leather) so I can get it easily and shhh, don’t tell anybody, cheap.
I’ve been given tours of 3/4 of them (I have no idea how many there are) they are jaw dropping huge, and amazing. Anyone that likes working leather should put it on their “bucket list”.
That would be a blast. Definitely need to make a trip down there. Thanks for the kind words!
Thank you for the info Parker.Appreciate your videos.
As always, thanks for watching a supporting Jim!
Can your business course be applied to other things like jewelry, etc.,etc?
Thanks Bro 👍✌

OLD LEATHER SMITH here, Nice of you 2 mention all the big suppliers of leather and hardware, I also like your videos , I WOULD LIKE 2 WISH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A SAFE NEW YEAR GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾🙃
Thanks so much Jim! Merry Christmas!
Thanks brother for sharing your experience!!!!! You have the only video I can find sharing any knowledge.
And I hope it stays that way for you now. You worked hard for it and deserve it.
I pray for your true success. That this is a trade of passion. We are losing so many of these old artforms. Our ancestors would die all over again finding out how modernized the western society they helped build is today. So even though I figure your aware of this already. But knowledge is power. Many have died in pursuit for it. More have killed in order to control it. And of all the evil leading this world nowadays.
It's no secret the lengths they are going to make sure we forget all of these old life saving, necessary to know living independent and be self reliant.
I wish you self sustainable and great wealth in your pursuits if you don't already have it. Stay true to yourself and never change up!!!
God bless 🙏
STAY frosty 🥶
STAY strapped 🔫
ALWAYS capable and dangerous 💪
very nice info or new suppliers

thanks good info got a timber rattler big kinfe . i guess 8-9 oz would be fine?
you look as tired as I am at 2AM when this is uploaded, cheers
Hahah cheers man
What about belly’s vs shoulders. Or sides vs double shoulder. That’s what I was hoping for this vid. Love it as always brotha. Keep it up.
Yeah that definitely would've been good to cover. I'll be doing a lot more vids like this and i'll include it
Do you guys this this sewing machine will be ok for leather? Encore 8700 Industrial Machine
I onow this is from 2020, but what weight is good for wallets and watch bands? Stll 8-9oz?
Montana Leather Supply and Maverick both have HO vegtan.
Awesome👍🏻
Also, check out Uncle George's Discount Leather and Hides.
Will do!
I am looking for someone who can make a belt holster for my revolver. Would you be interested?
I've ordered Hermann Oak from some suppliers and they sent me Utility Grade for a B grade price. I won't order from Weaver again. If I order Hermann Oak I get it from Springfield Leather, they say if it's B grade or Utility grade and price accordingly.
That's really interesting to hear. I've heard from people who had almost the exact opposite experience. Thanks for brining your perspective
Have you ever bought from Oregon Leather Co??
I hadn't heard of them. any good?
@@whitandpark I used to buy from them when i was just a kid and lived in Oregon .It used to be wouldnt hurt to check
Do you know any good places to find exotics like kangaroo, alligator ostrich, etc?
@@jeffallen3382 thanks
I second that, SLC has a lot of that stuff. Thanks Jeff✊🏼
I ordered low priced and high priced Ostrich legs from SLC and even the low priced ones were not bad, had some bad ends and sides, but the middles were fine. I also ordered some alligator with a back cut so the belly was perfect for wallets. If you want some high quality belt straps out of alligator or crocodile (caiman) Try Pan Am Leathers, man they have some out there skins. 7-8 foot Nile Croc, expensive, but you won't be sending it back. Beaver tails, yes beaver tails, perfect for outside of a wallet, $30.
Thanks guys.
Great video.. Could you please translate the "ounces" to mm thickness? If possible. Thank you.
Isn't chromium tan leather bad for the metal of your gun or knife ?
I've heard the same thing. Apparently it's because of the chemical additives they use in the tanning process permeates the hide and stays there.
Over time those chemicals can transfer to the metal.
Oh yea... now belts, yes definitely!
Ok... 8 to 9 oz ? That’s really too heavy for holsters unless you use them for a base piece. 6 to 7 or even 7 to 8 would be better. Then after tooling and dyeing you can use a piece of boot liner for the inside of it, making it smooth and easier to draw your weapon from... don’t believe me ? Try it.
I joined the US leathersmith guild in 1992. And apprenticed with a 60 year old Italian leathersmith for 5 years. He died, but before he did he gave me all his notes and many old leather use books. Most were in Italian and I had to go to the collage nearby to get them translated.
Cool story bro
@@charlesbronson240 yea he was quite the leathersmith.
That would depend on a few things, including lined or not and the size of the holster as well as the weight of the firearm (a small holster for a light weight pistol, like a pocket 9mm with 3 inch barrel, wouldn’t need as heavy of leather as a large heavy pistol, such as a seven and a half inch barreled .454).
Please can you be my teacher? How much is training fee?
I don't do any private training, but i'll keep posting videos like this 3x a week and that's free;)
@@whitandpark what do you suggest I do to start my bag factory?
Something is wrong with your channel brother, I am subscribed and enabled notifications from you, I don't get any from you and I was like did you guys stopped uploading any videos? Until I got an email from you. Went into your channel and there it is a video posted 17 hours ago. No idea why this is happening with your channel, am I the only one experiencing this?
man i've been hearing that from a few people. I'm going to dive in a see what's going on. Thanks for letting me know
Also I cant recommend Springfield they have sold me absolutely nothing but junk the last 3 orders
That’s too bad man, I’m sorry to hear that. I guess I’ve been lucky but I heard from someone else that had the same experience
Yeah, they seem to be hit or miss with leather, but with the gold club membership I have found it is one of the best places to order dyes/topcoats and other chemicals from. Zack White has similar prices, but in my experience SLC ships so much faster. (the fastest I've gotten a package from ZW was a month after ordering it)
@@dmg92001 I went with gold club and I agree its good for hardware and bottled stuff. Just disappointed with the leather always being a gamble and bad customer service.
@@maxwright9909 Yes it is very hit or miss with SLC. I saw some of the poor reviews and thought what are they talking about everything I've gotten was as good or better than I expected. Then I got several bad orders in a row with leather that was full of holes and torn and mostly unusable. My last order has ostrich legs on it and only 2 of the 6 were of any use at all.
@@jameskent4411 I had the same exact experience, started great now Im desperately looking for affordable and quality veg tan
A year old video and you're still helping individuals such as myself. TY
