    So you say she's an angel, you praise her for putting others first, then you bully her for your wishes. Selfish selfish . I find it quite immoral how selfish they are.

      @hauntedshadowslegacy2826 Před 4 lety +206

      How do you think she became such an 'angel'? Most of the time, adults who are overly kind and selfless were bullied into that frame of mind as a child. They were stepped on, insulted, and/or yelled at for 'having needs' (as if needing things is a bad thing when it's a kid in need). I'm not saying that's definitely what happened to the bride in this clip, but the possibility is extremely high (especially when you consider her own mother's reaction to the bride having an opinion on the dress).

      Thanks for throwing that or as a theory because other people on here have just assumptions and that feels a bridge too far.
      I doubt they are selfish woman by nature but they really needed to listen to the bride more than worrying about their tastes. She has a wonderful figure, she’ll look great in whatever they put on her. You love so just let her have her 3.5K dream

      The problem with being in the family caretaker role is that when you finally want to do something for yourself everyone around you tries to make you feel selfish for not doing what they want you to do. Both her mother and future MIL should have been making sure she walked out of there in her dream gown instead of the compromise dress that put her firmly in her role of the designated family caretaker.

      If you find an adult that always lets others get their way, it's usually because they were mistreated as a child. By all means, encourage kids to be nice to each other, but don't teach them that they have to let someone else's wants go before their needs. Emotional abuse has a long-lasting impact.

      VirtualForeseer it's all about the respect for parents. Good girls, angels as mom said, are raised that way to be kind respectful and missing their own opinion. Most of the time it is all about parents. They raise their children not being able to say no. Such parents manipulate their children or they are so imperative sometimes you simply can't say what you really think and want. That's the way my mother-in-law is. She manipulated her son as long as she could until he moved away as far from her as possible. They almost don't speak. I mean she's fine but she simply doesn't understand that she pushes too much, that there are some limits. So sometimes the only way to be nice to your imperative relatives is to stay far from them, live your own life and see each other once a year or so.

      @@Ysmir. It's fine to have ideas about what you think your daughter's wedding will look like, but it should come in the form of 'what do you think about's and 'have you thought of's. Suggestions and suggestions alone. As soon as the words 'I want' come out of a mouth that isn't the brides, something isn't right.
      Also, as for her not standing up for herself to her mom, there's a high chance she was emotionally abused as a kid just so mommy could get her way all the time. "Mama knows best." "Because I said so." "Do what I tell you." Seemingly harmless phrases (in small quantity they may be less harmful), but extended exposure to such mindsets can do significant damage to a child's self-esteem and confidence. Watch what you say and how you act around kids. They DO remember.

      This comment helped me understand why my sister who is older than me by one year, is such an angry person to her core. She was always the perfect child, indulged, favored and considered superior to me and my eldest sister, always given everything she wanted. The fact is she wanted none of that - she was subtly bribed and manipulated into those choices - being much more dependent on parental approval than either my eldest sister or I was. She is angry at me because I did what I wanted regardless of what our parents thought, and our parents didn't love her any more (or less) than they loved me. What a revelation to me at 70 years of age.

The one that really made her light up was the first one. That joy showed and made her look amazing for that reason. The mothers need to be slapped upside their heads with a big, dead catfish-a bullhead to match their bull heads. (for those of you not familiar with the various catfish species, a "bullhead" catfish has a much larger head in proportion to its body than any other species of catfish, so much larger that it's really noticeable)

      @lissaC.W. Před 4 lety +15

      Yeah my mom I absolutely adore my mom but she does the same manipulative kinda crap with me. She did it when we first went shopping for a wedding dress, and she was pointing out things that she knew I was self conscious about. I said yes to a dress she loved because I really wanted to make her happy since she and my dad were paying fo it. I really regretted it. I went shopping for another dress months later and found my dream dress without her. I sold the other dress and returned her money but she was so angry with me than she finally realized that what she wanted wasn’t what I wanted. When 8 was young I always had that problem when it came to speaking out for myself. I have always been quiet and passive and my mom has always been the exact opposite we’re like night and day. So it can be very difficult saying no to her. So I felt bad for this girl, moms have to realize that it’s no longer their time, it’s not about them but their daughter. Now that 8 have a daughter I absolutely will let her pick out whatever dress she wants for her wedding. I mean she is four years old now and I let her pick out her what clothes she likes from the store, she definitely has her own style.

But she agreed and calmed down after a few days. She does want me to be happy and she is an awesome mom she just has a very strong personality and I do happen to be a people pleaser. My husband was so happy too because he hated the first dress I picked out with my mom. also the second dress was much light and flowed better it made with organza fabric. The first one was so heavy and made with satin since it was a very hot summer wedding I would have died in that dress. But yeah I think mothers absolutely should have an input but in the end let the daughter decide. My daughter has her own style and even though it’s the opposite of mine, I am more of a Tom boy and she is more girly I want her to be able to express herself. Thank u!💜🙏😊

If you're going to spend all of that money on your dress for your wedding, you need to decide for you FIRST. Everyone else is there for second opinions.
    I took one of my friends with me first and then took my mom to help me decide (she offered to pay for my dress). Every time she tried to overrule me on the dress I wanted, I politely reminded her that this was my wedding, not hers. Every time she said, "Well, I'm paying for it," I reminded her that she offered, I didn't ask her to do that and I was fine buying my own damn dress if she was going to continue to try to railroad me.
