    Makes me so happy to see you saving this e28. When I was in high school I had an ‘88 535is that was in really good shape. I hate myself everyday for selling it.

    I give you mad props for tackling that type of job in such a small space. It’s obvious that the camera was not able to capture how difficult it was to work under such conditions. Keep up the good work no matter how ugly the welds are 🤪

  • @devilskullBEL
    @devilskullBEL Před 4 lety +4

    While you're at it, remove the spare wheel as well as the rubber from the boot and check the metal behind the tank lid (they often rust due to spilled fuel) en below the battery tray (battery acid from back in the day is the culprit there).
    Trick with the carpet is to remove the 2 front seats, then you can lift the complete carpet out (and give it a good cleaning as a bonus.)
    Oh, if you're planning on replacing the speakers, you have to replace all the speaker wire as well.
    The stock radio only gave out a positive signal and the car's body was used as a negative, while modern radio's require you to have both positive and negative wires being connected.

    Good job man! Keep cutting, welding and so on. It is still in a good shape I can say. Don't forget to use preservative oil (or not oil...oil like fluid, have no idea how to name it in english) to fill up holes and inside of your doors etc. Everywhere where you can find hidden surfaces. You should do it after painting. If you want to get of rust of your not painted parts - use rust solvente with molibdene but do not forget to use anti-acid to neutralize it. Also please use safety glasses as it is very easy and dangerous to get injured by grinder. Another thing, take your screwdriver and hit everywhere on your car floor as you have your carpet off. You will find more holes and easy fix them. Also check inner arch - it is also rusted I believe. And last thing, when you welding - do points but not lines. It will not overheat the metal and you will have pretty much good surface after all.

    talking about rocker panel, ideally you want to replace it whole as it was put on the car in factory so nobody knew about replacement + you can really clean inside rust, but your way is also procedure of most avarage body shops I know so it's good job for first time diy...
