  • How to get suitable material for bonsai?
    When in the area a lot of trees were felled I went out and looked for interesting trunks. A few cam home, and are followed through the season. How to pot up a collected tree, and recovery of collected bonsai in the first year.
    This cherry tree recovered really well, and after initial recovery time, a first wiring is done in late fall.
    I happily recognize clip: yarn.co/ for providing a funny clip!

    That is a monster cherry and is going to be a fanastic long term project for CZcams. It is a shame that first one didnt make it though. Cheers

    Always dicey when it comes to reviving these sorts of yamadories. Happy that you succeeded in one of those. 🙂

    Always amazed at how trees can recover from losing many roots. Shame about the other 2 but the cherry looks good.
    I recovered a crazy bending old elderberry from my driveway hedge. Wasn't sure how to deal with the new branches but your video has helped point the way forward

    That is a lovely tree! And it will only get better as the branches thicken and grow - I can't wait to see how this develops over the years. (I hope it stays in your garden for some time to come).

    Mooie video. Boompjes uit het wild is toch wel het leukst. Wat ik mooi vind is dat je ook laat zien wat mislukt gaat. Video👍👍👍

    Great to see you tackle these beasts. Any reason why you don't leave the old soil on? I'm a beginner and am always worried about bare rooting trees so I tend to just leave the soil on until the tree survives or doesn't ... I have three yamadori trees I rescued from a neighbour and planted into my yard. Your video is perfect in showing me what I need to do next 😊 fingers crossed the trees make it through the winter. Keep up the wonderful content and thank you for showing the trees that don't make it. Dead trees are upsetting so it helps to see that trees die even in the hands of the best bonsai people.

    Awesome Video Jelle! I am glad 1 of the 3 made it for you. That false push is always the worst with yamadori trees. Your big Cherry is looking phenomenal, but I cannot even imagine how much that thing weighs in total. Beautiful work!!

    One thing I'm not envious about this tree is finding a place on your benches! Do you expect the leaves will shrink as it's developed?

    hey, great stuff, thank you for your honesty with the dead ones, not sure if you mentioned, have you used any fertilizer, or you leaving them without fertilizing for the first season?

    Did I understand correctly that bonsai can be obtained even from an ordinary cherry tree? I have a couple of mature trees in my backyard and there are a lot of cherry shoots (grown from seeds) under them.

    I find it difficult to see it from the image, but could it possibly be a Prunus serotina?

    • @GrowingBonsai
      @GrowingBonsai  Před 8 měsíci +1

      I think you might be onto something. I did a screening of common wild cherries, and avium popped up as most likely. But serdina looks good too. I guess flowers & fruits will lead towards certainty.

    That for sure is not a cherry that you have there!
