Chael is right. Ngannou looked crisp and fit. His movements were fluid and he looked like a million bucks. He just didn't have the balls to fight. Just goes to show you can look like Cormier and still raise hell if you have the skill, heart, hard work and determination.

I enjoyed the tension of the fight, it could have ended in 1 punch at any time. It was tense until the final bell rang... then the disappointment set in and the realization of a boring fight really set in.
I'm with you I felt like if they would have attacked each other one of them was going down so even though the crowd was impatience I was up on my seat waiting for one of them to land a huge punch that ends the fight but they both were too cautious of each other especially Ngannou. Lewis is a counter striker and Ngannou knocked out Overeem so it made sense why he didn't charge him. Although Lewis hits hard its not something that I think Ngannou would fear as he fought a few other guys that hit hard and was willing to mix it up. So I blame Nagannou more but he did look light on his feet and I don't think he is done yet.

I agree. I loved how I expected a lot and they did nothing. I loved how Derrick stood his ground. I loved how he fought back. I loved the booing and I loved the shocked commentators. It was a pretty entertaining fight imo.

That very same thing happened at UFC 214 during Woodley vs Maia and I participated. I didn't hate the Lewis vs Ngannou fight. Lots of anticipation. Could have ended at any time but yes it was bad. I really hope Derrick fixes his back issues.

I had the same opinion about the fight, almost down to a Tee. I was there at UFC 226 as well and recorded every second of it! The fight was built up moreso *especially* after Holloway vs. Ortega dropped out... so I didn't start booing until 2 minutes left in the third b/c I still had hope there'd be a KO. Lol

I wasn’t even bored during the fight... watching it live was entertaining just hearing the commentators trying to make sense of it and discuss it. Lol. Then knowing any second one punch can change it all, and wondering if one of these guys will finally take a risk... wasn’t boring, but certainly would never watch it again.
I didn't catch the fight but saw a clip of Herb Dean literally telling them to fight. Made me laugh pretty hard.

I should have been disappointed since I had the PPV, but somehow I didn't feel ripped off at all. It was bizarrely fascinating to watch. I'm sure as shit not going to watch it again but seeing that happen live was interesting.
there is 3 explanations of why Ngannou didn't perform even though Derrick was clearly a sitting duck. 1- he probably didn't want another humiliating lose and wanted to just to teach himself how to control his power and stemina basically he wanted to gently spar so he can gain his confidence back. 2- mentally scarred from the pervious fight and only wants to survive. 3- which is a bit far fetched it was fixed.

the fight was so bad it was good. just watching the fight play out completely opposite to what every single analyst, fighter, and commentator predicted; seeing such a hilariously bad fight after what had been an amazing card; and seeing the audience/herb dean collectively being like "wtf is this?" was entertaining in its own way. i was watching with my jaw dropped the whole time

Part of me wishes Chael would have touched upon the fact that Francis may want to consider a sports psychologist. Something that helped Chael. The amount of mental toughness that is required to compete in MMA and on the marquee like that is quite huge. I’d imagine there’s almost no wiggle room to second guess yourself in there. Use this is a learning experience and seek help if you want to continue otherwise this brutal sport isn’t for you.

I do it when watching UFC matches, if the fighter I want to win is in a troublesome situation I oftentimes find myself standing up and "encouraging" the fighter. Or if they do something great I might yell "there you go!" Everyone I know does the same when watching sports on TV. They "address" the athletes on their team. It's just more engaging and fun rather than sitting there completely still and silent. I know they can't hear me. I can't believe anyone actually needs to explain this to you. Jesus Christ.

I agree with Chael. Ngannou did look good. He was moving good and throwin good feints, and Lewis did not respond to them meaning he should have thrown the punch the next time cause Lewis would have been there but he just would not pull the trigger.

I was thinking about this fight since the rematch is almost certainly taking place in the summer, and I had a feeling the contrarian in Chael enjoyed this fight. I was right.
I didn't find the fight that boring because it'll one take one shot, just a major let down. One thing to note is that Francis didn't look tired at all. He slimed down a lot but he was scared for some reason.
And yes Lewis had his chronic back spasms he mentioned it to his corner.
Loved the bit about Lewis still winning. Whether nganou defeated is broken or not, Lewis got the fight and toughed through it anyways despite his issues, unknowing of nganous mental state.
