I’m English, but spent the early 1980s living in South Africa. My two young blond haired sons were so much like PK. Even though this was the apartheid period, they became friends with the Zulu people, but failed to make friends with the Afrikaners. This film is very realistic, if anything the racism is understated. So proud of the way the South African people are rebuilding their beautiful country.
You mean the mass starvation? Driving out the white farmers? Like another Rhodesia
@@ViktoriousDead What I remember most during that period:- A blackman found drowned in his police cell. White trade union leader Dr Neil Aggett who after typing but not signing a confession in poor English, hung himself against the bars of his cell. During the drought of I think 1983ish the town council cut off the water supply to our local black township. Many were to Die from Cholera after drinking from a stream. Meanwhile us Whites were still allowed our backyard swimming pools and lawn sprinklers. I worked in the Steelworks at Newcastle Natal. The Health and Safety book included the following “ If a non-white is insubordinate to you, do not beat him, but report him to his Boss-Boy, he will provide the punishment”. I once witnessed a Blackman being beaten to a bloody pulp for what they called “silent insubordination”. Along with other British workmates we learned to form a defence around anyone facing a beating. I’ve been back several times to South Africa and still love the place and it’s people. Never felt in the least danger. But I have heard the stories about white farmers and the growth of crime. Hope that they can get on top of it.
Apartheid was an abomination and the injustices suffered by the Zulus horrific, but all that injustice for all of those years builds an understandable animosity in the oppressed. You wanna hear horror stories now it is from whites mainly. Racism is racism, and since the Zulus are both more numerous AND have political power conditions are pretty bad over there. Corruption is rising and although it looks on the outside like a slightly run-down first world nation, it's really become a third-world country with first world stucco exterior. The "rebuilding" is more like an unmaking. It's progress with only one gear - reverse.
Yeah people forget there are white people in Africa?
Did they get pissed on ?
Can't believe Warner Brothers still hasn't released neither remastered or original version of this brilliant film on Blu-ray!
So disappointed...
Agreed
One of the most heartfelt movies of all time
This is my favorite soundtrack of all movie soundtracks. The music is so beautiful it makes me cry.
lol
Fellow cryer here. Especially with this soundtrack! I teared up just watching this trailer after many years. This and "The Mission" soundtracks, all time favs. Used to listen to them for hours.
@@Y7BRO I'll have to check out that soundtrack! Thanks!
I met Stephen Dorff. In 1998..he told me about this movie..top 5 of all time
What was he like? I’ve always loved his acting.
He told me this was a particularly tough role, certainly not a walk in the park
I remember hearing he had to beat out 100's of other actors for this role, including some well known.
I happen to be watching this movie in school. Currently, this is a very touching yet powerful movie. Great movie by the way.
Wow, no way!! Who was your cousin? I'll look him/her up.
Okay. I love Guy Witcher. He's like a mini Anakin Skywalker from Star Wars.
You should read the book it's even better
Read the book too
I saw this when I was 10...been searching for it for 30 years. Cannot believe I stumbled in here!
One of my fav movies, will never forget this one❤️
One of the most powerful movie of the 90's
*1989
Pivotal Film TV Scenes nope it was 1992
It most certainly was not a walk in the park
One of the most powerful moves of the 80’s should have been nominated for best picture.
Why? Its a pile of malarchy?
Aιμιλιος Xαλεποπουλος since that was a question, I’ll say, no actually it wasn’t
Its a 90s movie not 80s
@@mattwade1148 argh
@@sliat1981 no it is, the narration is often obnoxious and unnecessary and the emotional beats are always cut to short to leave and impact on you.
This is a weeping film Mark.
Mark, have you seen it yet???
It's not a walk in the park mark. U need to watch this film.
This has been my favorite movie since it came out - the books is great as well. Watching this clip gives me chills (the good kind). Thanks for the memory.
Sheltma Niringi you are NOT forgotten (Global Love) let’s make it rain blessings on the poor, homeless and hungry ❤
This book came to me at one of the most difficult times in my life.
I've been looking for this movie fpr well over 15 years😭.
Imma download it and show it to my dad
Why would you want to indoctrinate your dad like this?
Me too!
It is one of the best movies I have ever seen!
Liked the movie, loved the book.
The novel is one of my favorite works of art. It’s a masterpiece, to be honest.
I went to TAFE and did four years of horticulture with Bryce Courtney... He's a wonderful man.
I'm watching this trailer because my friend from New Zealand recommended me the book of this film 😊

The girl dying is what's stayed with me for 10 years...
Havent watched it since it came out when I was 6. They killed his chicken and I'm not ready to revisit that childhood trauma.
Yes me too the way in which she died.. sigh
I remember enjoying and struggling with and trying to experience the book; it was just better than the movie - which was/is awesome. 🍻🥃🖖
I found it on Apple for $3. Well worth it.
I just finished the book and I'm trying to find this film on NZ and it's not on any streaming services. I am so frustrated. Can anybody help?
it's on Stan now my favourite in 1995 1996 in Samoa
❤️
i first heard about this movie through lion king
I read the novel , I will try the movie
Fiela se kind
I remember me and my brother watched this in the cinema and I was posturing cos I did not like the look of this man sitting behind me, he looked like he wanted a fight, right? But my brother he says"Sam, you need to watch this" and I turned around and it was so powerful, right, these bullies, yes? These bullies were pissing on the boy, mark. The boy that we grew to love and care for, markm and they were pissing on them. And I wept, mark. I was weeping. And you can't weep in a cinema in Joberg, mark, you have to be tough. Joberg Mark, it is not a walk in the park
I cried when I'm watching this movie.. 🤣🤣
Where can I get this movie
Great movie. Better than the book and it is my favourite book. Only issue is the book is a prequel that doesnt close. Film does close. Breat author Bryce Courteney
The sequel has been released by the name 'Tandia' by Bryce Courtenay
@@priyadarshanm8857 yeah tandia finished the story but wasn't as good a book
Loved this movie as a kid the part that stuck with me to this day was when his girlfriend was killed and Morgan freeman’s character (I forgot the name) was killed.
I was born in Johannesburg and went to the same high school as the author of the book of the power of One. I even was in high school the producers came and did a casting call at our school for the lead role. I have lived in South africa all my life and lived in the same culture as the author did.
I have never seen such claptrap in my life. Life is NOT like this in South Africa. I cannot find anyone on the right side of sanity who has lived in south africa who can vouch that this is an accurate portrayal of the people who live there.
what a pile of crap.
Why do we even watch these Hollywood movies?
The movie was set during World War II. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying things can change a lot in that amount of time
I think you are overlooking two important things about this movie:
1) The Power of One takes place from 1939 to 1951. So it will be hard to find anybody that grew up in the time period because of the age factor. The main character in the movie was born in 1930. That would make him about 90 years old. How many people do you know that are in their late 80s and early 90s?
2) To my knowledge, this is a work of fiction. It is NOT a documentary. It is not even based on a true story. It is a work of fiction.
@@ChaseTerrier exactly
@@ChaseTerrier The author lived beyond that time and closer to ours. Cultures tend to stay the same across 1 or 3 generations. Where i was going with my comment is that the author used local culture as a platform for the characters and I can see how he portrayed the Afrikaners in the opposite direction as how I saw the Afrikaners
This movie was set during 1930s and 1940s 🙄
Is Daniel craig acting in this movie ?
No
Yes he is actually
Podcast and Chill with MacG
There is a reason you cant watch this easily..
Real ones know the book is more goated
HOLLY WAR IN BED PILLOWCASES FLIGHTS
Ultimate white savior movie.
Takes a sad kind of sickness to criticise kindness.
I was wondering about that, and am glad to see your comment. UGH.
A Digital Graphics teacher in Ft.Bend helped me reach out to General PK in Highschool. He may have not been a General at the time. May God bless PK and all good teachers, where ever you may be...the Rumor is that General PK serves in the British Royal Navy? I am not sure. I am sorry.
