Forced Attack on Siege is a game changer for me. I always had the problem with lone of sight on my trebs. I had too move forward and lost against Springalds EVERY GAME! While I always had the feeling, that the enemy has unlimited range on his Trebs. OMG

Elephants

So the tower elephant is the most likely unit you will see on the field. These units have tons of ranged resist, but are weak against melee. Horsemen or Knights are best against them, but you can also use spearmen and man at arms. The receive bonus damage from mangonel as well. You see why there wasn't a single elephant made in Red Bull Wololo?
As for the war elephant, it is specifically good against cav so don't fight it head on with knights or horseman. These are rarely trained.

After the last update, I keep running into HRE who just go mass MAA and even if I (as ottoman) go mass crossbowmen against them, which should be the counter, they just run over them. What can I do?

Have a heavy frontline to give the crossbows time.

In short - arrow ships counter demo ships, demo ships counter springald ships, and springald ships counter arrow ships. The others are good against buildings or unique traits, but are rarely used.
In the current meta mass arrow ships with some demos is very effective. You can also get arrow emplacements at your docks. Your pierce damage upgrade at the blacksmith will buff arrow ships, but not the pierce armor. You should also get the hammocks upgrade in age 3 at the dock that buffs arrow ships.

ok so what counters feudal maa in an English mirror match? going toe to toe with your own maa is not countering. This is sort of a game design flaw imo.
