- When 86-year-old U.S. Marine Corps veteran Gerry Brooks passed away and no kin came forward, funeral organizers sent an urgent notice for pallbearers. Word traveled so wide that over 500 strangers congregated to pay respects with full military honors. NBC News’ Gadi Schwartz has the monumental tribute.

Wow, what an honor for Gary🎖thank you to him for his service. I'm sadden he passed alone, but I'm grateful he had so many step up and create such a memory in his honor. Bless those who gave their time and energy to show respect to Gary. Sending condolences 🙏

I think that we should make every June about the military and veterans. Let's have a month long celebration and appreciation of them all across America. Imagine everyone in America putting out an American flag for the entire month.
