I have a sheepsona. I've rarely seen anyone who has a sheep as their fursona, and it's quite an uncommon species. (I've only known wolf, cat, fox, and dragon species with other kinds of animals, but I seem to be the only sheep that I've seen.)
Personally, I feel as though you can go pretty far in terms of design, especially when it comes to coloring. Like they are literally made out of wool, which is usually dyed for clothing, so the possibilities for coloring and patterns are endless.
But when people think of sheep, they think of white fluffy balls of wool. Not neon pink with yellow zigzags thrown up on their body. But it'd still be cool to see them more in the fandom at least. :)

I have two others (Dragon and a my own custom species)
There's a "new" species that I've really fallen in love with called "alladons," which are kind of like a type of winged Ydino/raptor. They're pretty uncommon and there's only somewhere between 100-200 of them. You can only get them by adopting the designs from the creator or someone who already has one as they are a closed species. They're super interesting but pretty hard to snag since each batch of designs can be completely sold out in under 10 minutes of being released.

My fursona is a platypus, which kinda sucks since bills are harder to draw! My previous fursona (before I left the community in 2013) was an iguana who changed colour based on the season. I like chosing less common species because I'm a pretty weird person who was an outcast most of my life. They can also be really fun since you'll always stand out from a group of characters. Eventually I'll make a platypus fursuit of my own, since I've only seen maybe 3-4 of them online. Unfortunately mine is a similar colour to another platypus, but we follow each other, so that's cool.

Another possibility for fursona's can be extinct animals as well, like Thylacine's, Sabers, Short faced bear, Hagerman Horse, and so on. Those would be really cool to see, especially as suits.

While I have several different anthro OCs, my personal fursona is a velociraptor (with feathers), and my boyfriend's is a red squirrel. Makes for a very odd yet cute pairing lol. My second choice for my sona would probably be a ball python.

My fursona is a Dragon/folf/Tasmanian Devil.
He is a very light blue, with turquoise hair and also with white markings. He has 2 medium horns and pastel purple paw pads, inside of the ears and eyes.
Also, an turquoise nose, a lip scar and cool black markings on the face and the rest of the body.
Classic Dragon wings and canine tail are optional choices.
His tail is a relatively short dragon tail (at least shorter than most dragon tails).
His name is Ezio= the eagle.

My fursona is a platypus and I wish there were more of us out there ! Platypuses are cute and weird and they have VENOM, they're cool and should get more love. I also have a ponysona, he's a changeling-unicorn hybrid, and a secondary fursona that's an anomalocaris (a big prehistoric nightmare shrimp).
So yeah all of that to say, you don't even have to pick one species ! If you're hesitating between two species, just make two characters.

My main fursona is a snowy owl/snow leopard hybrid(may even add Orca to them.). Then my other one Krunx is literally just a barf of randomness, I don't even know what to call him.

Primagens are very scarce/exclusive and while that's pretty cool, sometimes that makes them out of reach...

It's a feature on their fursuit called follow me eyes.
Would my fursona be special? She is kind of like a dragon but not really. She is a mammal actually. She is covered with fur. She has giant feathered wings and bird-like feet and possum-like hands. She has four razor sharp teeth/appendages coming out of her mouth. Two are hidden under the larger ones. She has soft poofy fur that acts like hair. She also has three swirled markings on the top of her arms and on her thighs, she has one swirl on each cheek poof and two swirls that act kind of like eyebrows. Her ears are gigantic and face sideways, she has a long furred dragon tail with two gems on each side of the end of her tail. Her body only has two colors. (She is super simplistic) she wears a necklace that is impossible to take off. The black gem in the center acts like her soul. The more angry or she becomes/the more it gets damaged it becomes whiter and whiter. When she is depressed or furious it becomes pitch white and almost blinding. Her eyes are all black with only a sliver of white acting like a pupil. (She is my profile picture, isn’t she cute? :3)

My fursona has recently changed a little, from being a lilac and white-ish "red" fox to shapeshifting from a "red" fox (autumn and winter) to a fennec fox (spring and summer), referencing to my oversensibility to temperature and limited to only those two. Color scheme stays almost the same with being slightly more pastel in fennec form
My fursona is a gremlin, based mostly off of the Gremlins movie (both in their cute forms and evil forms) but also taking heavy inspiration from sergals.
I’ve yet to see another gremlin out there actually. I’ve seen fan art of some gremlin character from a game that I’ve never played but no original gremlin sonas. But my favorite to see are definitely cats. Specifically domestic cats. They’re just adorable ^^
I also love rabbits, moths, scorpions (I have one scorpion character I need to redesign), rats, raccoons and lots of mythical creatures too.
