It's currently about 34-35° where I am but with the windows and curtains shut, I've kept relatively cool. I hope that rain comes quick and heavy. I'm not a fan of the heat but can deal with a few days. Rain is desperately needed though. I'm also a huge fan of thunderstorms, so hoping we see a few later this week

Obviously only a record temperature in modern times and certainly not unprecedented over a hundred plus years or so. We only have to see that during the Roman warm period we had vineyards on the Scottish Boarders, with the Romans building a wall to stop those from the north nicking it and all the other produce that was being produced up there. Also during the Medieval Warm period, we had all the great Gothic Cathedrals being built across Europe and so, with the average temperatures being degrees hotter than today. And of course In more recent times, we hit 35 plus in 1911, 1932, 1976, 1990, 1995, 2003 and 20016, with other years just failing to make to 35 degrees.

ok, we do often go abroad for this heat but many do not, particularly the elderly. Some elderly have problems that mean they cant regulate their body temperature and for them this is dangerous. Also when you go abroad the cafes, shops and hotels rooms are all air conditioned. UK homes are not.
