  • A great-looking combination TV/Radio/Cassette Recorder from Panasonic in 1977. The television and cassette recorder don't work right on my unit but the radio works great. It will look good on the shelf with my other vintage electronics.

I had a mid 1980s Sony Watchman. Loved that thing! I would use it on Friday nights to watch DALLAS on CBS.

I love the 70's-80's Panasonic portable radios/TV's. Especially that "Military/Tactical Tech" design style they used. Have a growing collection...told my wife I could have worse hobbies!
I just picked up one of these via auction. Same issue with the Tape Player, but if I touch the head I do get some static. But no motor activity. Radio is fine. The TV gives me "hash" on the screen. Still have to see if the tuner/etc. is okay via a DTB.
But mine came with the Battery Tubes!

Lucky for me, I got one of these things today along with one of those vintage steel military helmet that looks very, very old. I want to say 1940s. I love this stuff.

Hi Dan - You've always had really nice small TVs in your collections, but this is one of the best! It sure does yell 1970s doesn't it? It's too bad that the unit doesn't completely work, but I have a few too that don't and just have them on display. People like visiting in my game room because they always find something that remembers them from years ago. Rarely does anyone ask me if it works. I've got a few portable vintage TVs and had thought I'd collect the little units too. But, those units are hard to find and when they show up they are a bit pricey, even for hamfests. So, I'll have to stay happy with my Sony Watchman on display. Guess I can't collect everything (sigh). Thanks for showing the unit to us. See ya -- Atco

Wouldn't it be nice to have all the money and space to collect everything we like, Atco? I have vintage electronics that perform better, but none that look better!

Electrohome did something very similar to this; maybe a little more elaborate with AIR/PSB bands and LOCAL/DX switch and TV display 180° rotation switch. Kind of the ultimate camping TV/Radio/Cassette unit.

The motor could be seized up I had a cassette recorder which I have just repaired and the Tape Deck didn't work I found at the motor had seized up but the drive belt was ok it is worth checking the motor by turning the shaft of the motor if it does not turn it is seized up and the way to get around it is where the shaft is put some three in one oil down the shaft leave it for about an hour then turn it again by hand it should work ok then

Looking at it from the front and ignoring the cassette recorder etc, you're right - replace the wood grain with some military gray metal and it would look right at home as a communications piece on a WWII ship of someplace like that.
