Created in ca. 1965, this vintage Ford Motor Company promotional film is a salute to Ford tractors. The film features various tractor models such as the Ford Dexta 2000, the Ford 3000 Super Dexta, the Ford 5000 Super Major and the Ford Commander 6000.
The film shows the 60,000 dollars worth of experiments and testing performed on the tractors, the details of their assembly and construction, and the international importance of these agricultural machineries. With "traditional" music of different geographical locations, the film, for the final 10 minutes, flips between the images of various farmers working with their tractors and seemingly simultaneously breaking to enjoy a meal with their women and children and their traditional beverage.
    HISTORICAL BACKGROUND / CONTEXT
Fordson was a brand name of tractors and trucks. It was used on a range of mass-produced general-purpose tractors manufactured by Henry Ford & Son Inc from 1917 to 1920, by Ford Motor Company (US) and Ford Motor Company Ltd (UK) from 1920 to 1928, and by Ford Motor Company Ltd (UK) from 1929 to 1964.
American engineer, inventor, and businessman Henry Ford built experimental tractors from automobile components during the early 20th century, and launched a prototype known as the Model B in August 1915. Further prototypes, with a dedicated tractor design, followed in 1916. The first regular-production Henry Ford & Son tractors were exported to the UK in 1917 to expand British agriculture. In 1918, exports continued, the tractors began to be labeled as Fordsons, and US domestic sales began. Sales boomed in 1918 and 1919.
Between 1917 and 1922, the Fordson was for tractors somewhat like the Ford Model T was for automobiles - it captured the public's imagination and widely popularized the machine, with a reliable design, a low price affordable for workers and farmers, a widespread dealership network, and a production capacity for large numbers. Just as the Model T helped the public to appreciate how soon cars and trucks might replace most horses in transport, the Fordson helped people to appreciate how soon tractors might replace most horses in farming (advancing the mechanization of agriculture). As with cars, Ford never had the market to itself, but it dominated the market for a time (for cars, roughly 1910-1925; for tractors, roughly 1917-1925). Ford was the only automotive firm to sell cars, trucks and tractors simultaneously from 1917 to 1928.
For a decade between 1928 and 1939, Ford of the US left the tractor business. During that decade, Ford of Britain continued to build Fordsons and to develop new variants, which it exported widely. In 1939 Ford of the US reentered the tractor market with an all-new model, this time with the Ford brand. Ford of Britain continued to use the Fordson brand until 1964. After 1964, the Fordson name was dropped and all Ford tractors were simply badged as Fords in both the UK and the US.

Grew up with Ford tractors in the 60's 70's and till present time.
    I still own a Ford 7000 and a Ford 3600 both diesel.
I like the Ford tractors cause they are reliable, tough and easy to work on. You can still buy just about any part for repairs or replace.
I just recently bought a Ford 501 7' sickle mower to cut my hay. Works like a charm!

Those old Ford 2000 tractors are everywhere up here in these hills. My dad was a all Oliver man but in 53 my papaw got a Ford 8N series from a new Ford tractor dealership that was 25 miles closer than Oliver and allis Chalmers dealership. By today's standards you would be amazed how much work that little Ford tractor could handle.

I am still using a 10 series Ford. It's on its way for its second engine overhaul.
Used and abused by many, with a loader, run low on oil, low on coolant (not by me) it just keeps going. I think that these along with a few other 60's and 70's design tractors is where they reached the apex. Fords, Masseys and Fiats of that era remain highly sought after.
I considered getting a new machine, but they cost as much as a house and they practically do the same job - maybe a little faster.
In fact I just got another used 10 series, so I should be all set for another 30 years! Let's hope that there will be parts support in the future.

Ford had some advantages such as considerably fast max road speed, exceeding ~45 kph by the time with models 3000, 3600, 5000 etc. But the others (MF 135-165, Fiat 480-640 in a similar power range) could not as seen around here. But it's also commonly told the steering elements and the front axle damaged faster due to the speed. And Ford tractors had unic dashboard.
Ford's gearbox is a bit different than seen on the other tractors also.
Ford was fun to drive but I have no idea to work with...

Nice, well shot, piece of propaganda. Despite all the so called quality checks on the Ford 6X line, they still managed to produce a line of 'lemon tractors', with many inherent faults.
So much so, that a lot of revisions were required, and the tractor line re introduced to market in 1968, as the 6Y range.
Never did like Fords short stroke engine - very little torque - you had to rev the guts out if them to get anything close to an acceptable performance.
A Perkins engine, on the other hand, had a longer crankshaft through, and a better torque figure as a result. Easier on fuel use too.
Only thing I would say Ford got right on the original 6X range , was the bonnet styling, with its fluted design on the sides - much more aesthetically pleasing compared to the 6Y range styling. I guess having had to spend so much money fixing all the mechanical faults, money had to be saved elsewhere, wherever possible. A simplified, and hence cheaper to produce bonnet design, was one such example.

Select o speed could have been a great achievement but was a disaster for the ford. Terrible reliability really hurt the brand.

@@jsmith0924 Ford were simply reluctant to spend any more money developing it, which it needed. Harold Brock left Ford in disgust and got a job at John Deere. He developed their gearbox for the 'New Generation' of tractors and the rest is history, as they say.

Ford should stuck with building cars and trucks. and stayed away from building Aircraft and tractors. although the blue Ford tractors were a little better.
something else I can guarantee you wouldn't too many Ford tractors in Germany. the German people didn't like them.
