I've had the same tablet for over 3 years by now and use it daily, sometimes up to 5-6 hours or more to draw and do school work. Never had a single problem with it. It's still going strong even though it's a few years old. Love this thing
Me too, but I:
Lost the pen,
Stay on it longer on weekends because school,
kinda abuse it with the amount of rages I have,
Cracked it, and
About to replace it (maybe??)
I commented that on it!
Love this comment. Samsung tablets are the best, I have the s7 fe
@@XxaexxeaxX I'm looking into getting a new one too but It'll last for this year until I'm done with school. Definitely going samsung again tho. This also is my first samsung device
ipad better
Great job on repairing that Galaxy Tab S4 Hugh! It's always fascinating to see the insides of these devices. I agree with your decision to replace the whole screen assembly with the frame. It's a smart move to avoid dealing with glass shrapnel
I find this awesome to see as I actually use a Galaxy Tab S4 as my primary tablet! I was able to get a great deal on it as it was listed for parts because it basically has a dead camera ISP, so both cameras don't work. Other than that, it's the highest-end configuration Samsung offered for it, that being mobile network support and 256 GB internal storage, plus it's in black like the one in the video!
Did you ever get the cameras repaired or no?
@@Connie_TinuityError
No, as I could tell that it's an internal issue that can't easily be fixed. Not important for my use cases, though, as I could take photos on my phone and embed those into documents there, then sync them over.
The Samsung iris scanner still works, but just fails to load the camera preview which was just used for alignment and not actual scanning. It does sometimes fail and require me to restart my tablet, but I did set a passcode I can remember, plus Android biometrics require the passcode to be re-entered on start-up and after a certain number of unlocks.
Nice straightforward repair Hugh! It seems very sensible to order the new screen with frame - particularly when the frame appears to already have all the adhesive patches ready for reassembly! Excellent job as usual mate 👍👍😊
Oh definitely, replacement adhesives already ready to go on the new frame makes that one a no-brainer.
Opening a device up to find the battery held in is a breath of fresh air and a light from god shinning down 😊
I have a broken S4 too and watching this get repaired soothes my soul
Maybe give it a try yourself!
I have the same tablet and I've been using it for almost 5 years. Great CZcams machine
Finally a proper repair video after 3 dam months🔥🙌🏻🙌🏻
recently discovered this channel.... 10/10... thanks for all your insight..
Great repair! Those Galaxy Tabs are great little devices.
Therapeutic video as always ❤
I always wanted to know from where you order your screen assembly and batteries, is it a ebay/aliexpress kinda deal where you browse and hope you get original or non scam type of thing, or you have a specific store you purchase parts from.
Same
Almost every time he gets is from Ifixit, most of the time he always sponsors them in the beginning of the video
Ifixit has some parts
i believe he got parts either from ebay or ifixit
Love the tablet repairs. Wild to see what it takes to repair one.
Watching this video makes me so nostalgic because I remember I used to want one of these. I wish you would've replaced the battery too, but this was still a pretty fun trip down memory lane.
Alcohol or acetone usually removes the sticky rubber paint. But the stickiness returns if not removed
Acetone is always a bit risky
My friend and I sanded and scraped all of it off of an old laptop then painted over it with spray paint and then clear coat. We took it apart of course. The end result is so much better
I have the Tab S7+. I use it to run my Star Wars Apps for my Droids. It works great!!
Thank you so much!! I just used this to replace the screen on my SM-T835N. I was able to use a SM-T830 as a donor and just needed to swap motherboards and one wire thats not present on the 830 and also the sim card reader.
Nicely done! 😊
FINALLY a normal video 📹 don't get me wrong all your videos are good but u like these straight forward video the most 😊😊😊😊
All things considered, that was a relatively straight forward repair job thankfully. Cheers Hugh, for a stress free vlog! 🤣😂
Yup. It feels like technology has regressed in some ways.
Great video Hugh! You reached nearly 1 million subs
Very interesting. I enjoyed that.
This was a really nice video to watch, and given that this is the tablet that I have as my main tablet device, it is reassuring to know that it is easy to repair once the rear cover is off.
I also have my keyboard and S-Pen, both of which are still holding up well.
Btw - mine is the Wi-Fi only version. I wonder if it is possible to add the SIM Reader, SIM card tray, and antennae, to upgrade a Wi-Fi only device to a 4G compatible device?
Probably Not possible
No, it isn't possible since it doesn't have necessary network ics soldered on the motherboard, you'd have to purchase sm-t835 motherboard and swap it to your sm-t830 tablet.
You're the Landfills' deadly enemy.. ❤❤🎉
Great repair as always.
Do you have any solution for the nasty sticky old plastic problem?
I've had this issue on an old video camera (and an old umbrella handle). Its all the absorbed skin oils and grease (ugghh). Anyway, I used medical alcohol wipes (from Amazon). I rubbed mutiple times (you will need a few of the wipes) and eventually the stickiness is removed. This might work for you.
Great video.. Never saw the idea of a heat pad to help remove. What temperature do you set the pad to? I was thinking i could use the heat plate of my 3d printer much easier than a heat fan ..
Looking forward to your response
Regards
Amazing video mate!
I purchased a S4 from T-Mobile went it first come out at 50% over 24 months, great table for it's time, love have service on it for streaming and internet searches, first thing I did was get a screen protector and carry case, never felt I needed a keyboard, TODATE, I still use it, connected to home Wi-Fi, for streaming. . I did purchased a S6 later too, because it was 50%, I am now using a 9th Gen iPad as my school tablet, also at 50%.
Nice fix Hugh at least you didn't have the daunting task of finding a new case connector thing or remove stubborn magnets like the ipad
Hugh, what sticky double sided tape do you use? It's not listed on your tools website. Thanks!
I always enjoy watching your repair videos it's very nice
Thank you so much 😊
I have the same tablet and love it. It's been in an OtterBox defender since day 1 and so hopefully I won't need to do this kind of thing on it.
Hey Hugh! I Once Did A Battery Replacement On my Galaxy Tab 2 GT-P5100 (2013) And i Noticed The Battery Was Held Down With Screws! The Battery Has Been Changed And Ol' Mate is Still Going Strong 10 Years Later.
Techmoan theme at the end 🤠🤠
Nice job!
I purchased the same tablet a while ago with broken usb-c. I replaced it and it fired right up. It even turned out to be verizon unlocked, I'm using it for drawing and writing and the battery still holds up well.
I just repurposed a hard drive I pulled out of a laptop someone was throwing out. It's now an external drive for my Xbox :)
Feels good to keep stuff out of landfills
Apple should take notes and learn from samsung! Having a phone or tablet easily repairable like this will make it better in so many ways and will give your devices a second chance at life more easier.
True, z flip back glass replacement costs 15$ not freaking 200 like iPhones.
@@DragonOfTheMortalKombatong. And on top of that Apple loves to make their phones hard to repair and most people don't have the right equipment to replace back glass. Apple really needs to step their game up
Great job
THAT WAS VERY GOOD FIX 😊😊😊🎉🎉
İ love tablet repair videos
Rubbberized coatings on plastic can be dissolved and removed w/ alcohol, its pretty easy
I have this, its brilliant. Battery lasts ages, screen is good. Think my charger port needs repair, I have Samsung keyboard case, its a great tablet.
Hi, love your work...... How do I unlock Samsung network I happen to have a Samsung that is network locked.
Can you link where you got the parts? The screen mainly. I'm looking for one now and I can't seem to find one that works properly!
great job as always
I have 2 Tab S3 tablets with cracked displays. Paid $70 for them. Both usable as is but shucks, I hope the S3 screen replacement is as easy as the S4!
Hey mate
Is there any way I can bypass activation lock on a iPad mini 2?
For more gentle removing you can use plastic playing cards and some IPA. It really does good job when removing shattered glass without more damage
I would advise against pouring indian pale ale into your electronic devices
@@SuperiorToiletTissueisopropyl alcohol
/aɪ piː eɪ/?! If only fixing the screen were that easy...
Currently watching on the tab S3
I highly advise people to put a custom ROM on those older Samsung Galaxy Tabs, I've been running LineageOS on my Galaxy Tab S3 and its been running very fast for its age. Pen might be bugged and crash the OS but it works if you arent using the pen. Theres plenty other OS out there that might work with the pen
Road to 1M subs😊
Nice video
So, opening the back cover only exposes one end of the screen ribbon cable, so you can only check for corosion on that end (unless you go for a full teardown)
My screen bottom half is black and white lines, top half gives picture.
Keep it up 💪💪💪 bro Tab S4 used to be fire at time...
I've had luck with industrial degreasers to remove the stickyness on those rubberized finishes without damaging the material
The rubberised plastic back on my Galaxy S5 became incredibly sticky and horrible after a few years of sitting in a drawer. I was able to clean it up by mixing 1:1 bicarb (baking soda) and water to create a paste. Slather the paste on the affected plastic then wash it off after a minute or so. Took two applications but afterwards the stickiness was completely gone.
This is another example of it not being needed to glue in a battery. My favourite example is the 2016 ish era Macs. Thinner and cheaper Air had a screwed in and with a plastic frame to hold it together. The battery easy to replace with simple tools, the pro was glued in and was all floppy and in different parts. No excuse for this at all.
awesome
there is a glass replacement, you know? you can replace only the screen glass to keep the original screen. it can be done if the screen image is displayed perfectly and if the touch screen responds correctly. you should try to replace one sometime.
Mashallah ♥️♥️♥️
4:07 he said watt hour i heard whatever battery😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Is this your first modern tablet repair
Alternatively they can shrink the motherboards as much as they do in smartphones and put even bigger battery. I wonder if newest models are designed like that 🤔
If you run across any sticky rubber in the future, use a Magic Eraser
I have a Tab brand new in a box. Never used. Came in a phone package.
This was a great tablet for the time
Why apple battery is written lithium ion ont lithium polymer?
Nice job fixing it and excellent video, but is it really worth repairing such a tablet other than for the views?
It's a 5 year old device after all, and still usable with a cracked screen.
How much did you pay for it, and how much was the new display assembly?
What was the cost for parts?
It would be interesting for that battery attached with bracket holding the in place instead of using adhesive.
Damn you selling the old screen ? I refurbish them, glass only ? I'm in Western Australia?
I can put it on my store if you want it. Was going to sell it to CrazyParts. What would you pay for it?
I've never had a tablet that came with a vibration motor! I've always wondered why they never included them, but I guess I've just gotten unlucky
Some magic sponge should help clean off the degrading rubber.
Why didnt u just replace the touch screeen? There are many on aliexpress
He didn't want to deal with the glass
The most surprising finding here is this samsung battery was actually manufactured by BYD, the same company that have made huge strides in EVs, electric cars. Maybe Samsung and BYD had been in agreement to have the battery manufactured for samsung in the past?🤔
6:30 How do you deal with the red protective film from the double sided adhesive?
I have the same type of double sided tape and when removing the film from the sticky strip, it generates some static and the red plastic sticks to anything and everything (fingers, tweezers, clothes, etc)
ESD very pointy and clean tweezers plus some good fingers dexterity and hand/eye coordination is all you need. 😉👌
One thing I would say is your not using a very simple method to more easily remove cracked screens this is that you simply tape the whole display and it will stay together making removal much easier
That shows o company that has respect for its customers unlike that OTHER brand
that has NO RESPECT WHAT SO EVER good on you Samsung
Nice
Watching from Tab S4
I used to have the tab s4 lte version and it was samsung last flagship tablet with a headphone jack before they removed the headphone jack on there newer flagship tablets and phones. The tab s4 can do samsung dex whereas the z fold 4 samsung dex requires an external display to use samsung dex. I don't know why samsung removed the option to use samsung dex from the z fold 4 inner display without requiring an external display. I tried to activate samsung dex from the z fold 4 but in the settings it requires an external display. The z fold 4 is capable of using samsung dex from the z fold 4 inner display but for some odd reason samsung limited it and made it a requirement to have an external display. Using the z fold 4 inner display would have been useful and convenient when there is no access to an external display like being on an airplane or if someone does not own an external display. I used samsung dex on the galaxy note 9 when I used to own the galaxy note 9 without requiring an external display. The note 9 and the z fold 4 are samsung phones with the exception of the z fold 4 being a tablet that folds and fits in your pocket. The older samsung devices did not limit the features and functionality compared to the newer samsung battery devices. For example, what if I wanna use samsung dex on the z fold 4 and I don't have access to an external display. Unless, I buy a 28 inch external display and carry it with me and it's not practical. It would be more an inconvenience because I would have to carry an external display and I would have to make sure that the external display is compatible with samsung dex and carry it on an airplane.
my mum's tablet screen came out. the lcd cable is not attached to it. what to do next as i need to help her out
For this type of plastic/rubber, alcohol and a lot of patience.
Dude you should be In India there is a big market for repair devices.
Hello, where can I find a screen for a galaxy s5e?
There is no s5e
Not a word on the battery condition?
When it's already taken apart like this I’d have spent the only few quid for a battery and backcover as well.
how much you spent on all this?
was it worth it?
Why not put a new battery in since it is a rather old device/battery or at least a new back piece
Please make another LOT video
considering the tablet is five years old, wouldn't it have been a good idea to also replace the old battery while it was disassembled? just my take is all.
I have a question let's say you have a phone that has 64 gigs of storage can you upgrade that phone to 128 or higher storage without having to use an SD card
you cant
@@e64pro okay thanks
Idea: Try to repair a Tab S6 Lite
Still have my galaxy tab 4 laying around but never use it anymore.
Am I the only one who watches because he has nice hands?
I dropped mine years ago, on the corner straight onto carpet....the entire back is just shattered. I covered it with electrical tape.
In a twisting turn off events, everything is glued other than the battery. Where has the world come to?
I learned the hard way when replacing the display on a Samsung A51.....
To be honest a screen like this should be refurbished by using a glass only repair taking the old glass off and laminating a new sheet of glass to the original display. A sheet of glass costs £10 a sheet of oca costs about £2-3 so for under £15 you could get a new screen!!!! I know these screens cost someone in the trade £140 ish so more than what the device is worth used!! Amoled screens are silly expensive so doing glass only makes you lots of money yes it takes a bit longer but definitely worth it 😉
