My friend and I went to a video games convention back in about 2006 or so, and we met one of the original developers of the Atari Flashback 2 there. He showed us the secret code to enter in order to access a secret menu full of paddle games. You have to input "1972" using the joystick and the menu pops up. Plug in your original paddle controllers, and off you go! My friend and I had an epic battle of Warlords and drew quite a large crowd. He actually beat me for the first time in over a decade. It was amazing!
He also showed us how to modify it to accept cartridges. He was very proud of his work on the project.

The definitive flashback is still the Flashback 2 as it can be hacked to have a cartridge port. It’s not emulation and it’s awesome!

I have the ATARI Flashback 9 Gold HD in 202 for just 35€ and just love it. Most games are the original 2600 versions, it has 2 wireless joysticks and also an SD slot where you can add more Roms. The HDMI output is great. The only thing which I miss are paddle controllers.

I think the Flasback X is not that bad. The joystick problem can be solved easily by using a splitter cable. As for the software, a fantastic alternative firmware exists (AtariAge) that lets you add all the games you want and includes emulators of almost any Atari system and many other systems. It is a very nice little emulation device.

I think the best one was the Flashback 9 Gold. The wireless controls are amazing and everything works very well.

Flashback 9 with the built-in SD is amazing. The X is the best shelf-candy tho.

Two reasons I upgraded to the Flashback 8 Gold:
    1. Included paddle controllers (no point trying to play KABOOM! with anything else)
    2. HDMI output.
I don't spend unending hours playing it, but the occasional bit of fun I get is good enough.

They really should've gone with the European 7800 gamepad controllers for the first Atari Flashback instead of the US 7800 joystick controllers

Yeah, would have been nice but perhaps it was more for the novelty factor!

To be fair, the Atari that released the Atari VCS has nothing to do with the Atari that released the 2600. That Atari was split up into game and computer divisions by Jack Tramiel in the mid 80'S. Since then they are a brand marketing company who leases the rights to the Atari Fuji logo to anyone who wants to make use of it for games or consoles.
It is as fictional as the Atari store in BladeRunner.

I've got my original Atari and several flashbacks... But in my opinion the best way to play today is on a Retron77 with the custom stella firmware. You can load it up with roms or use cartridges. And use original controllers or the 8 button trooper and assign functions to the extra buttons.

The X Deluxe is pretty nice. Probably my favorite out of them all. Sound works fine.

Após pesquisar, optei pelo Flashback 9 Gold. Foram decisivos a entrada SD para adicionar ROMs, os controles wireless, saida HDMI e o botão de retrocesso. Esta ultima função permite que você volte o jogo e tente a jogada novamente.

You really should grab a new AtariVCS. They are great consoles and do far more than just play old Atari games.

The Atari Flashback MCXVIII is coming in the year 4527! Yey!! Its a nanobot version that when upackaged eats your brain and turns what's left into an Atari 2600 console so all you can do is play a selection of 60 games for the rest of your life.
