Hi, I will be going on this same cruise. Do you have to buy your rail tickets ahead of time?

I do recommend it, however I would by an open ticket, it’s more money but it can be used for any departure time. I didn’t book these types ahead of time and we had to wait a few times as they charged a lot to amend the ticket to an earlier time at the stations. Also I had trouble booking from the USA and had to use a third party app, I used Omio, it’s great but they do charge more as it is a third party, but the direct train lines app would not by without a UK address initially. Also make sure to be prepared for delays and alternate routes as the train and tube employees like to strike… we had a few things change and canceled because of a strike, maybe it has cooled down though. The Omio app and Western Train Line app did show warnings and dates of potential strikes when booking but you never know if it will happen. I hope you have a great time!

Also when departing via train back to London, there was less people earlier in the day, we got to the station at 8:45 am, and I bought tickets for 11:30 am, it wasn’t that busy in the morning, but when our train left a lot more people and luggage were getting on the trains. It started to get busy at about 9:30. Next time we will just buy our tickets when we get there or get the open tickets so we can just get on any train.
