    Look up at the story of the student with special needs at Northwest High School that beat his teacher so bad she had to have brain surgery. She currently cannot live on her own.
    I teach high school students with special needs. I have been smacked so hard that my glasses flew across the classroom. I have been spit in the face several times. I was surprised he was given prison time and not a behavior program. I thought he was probably going to need behavior modifications and meds in a locked facility. The parent keeps acting as if the student has no ability to control himself at all, and it was completely staffs fault.
    Thats a problem

      As a former teacher myself? I'm curious as to what you thought she could have done better. from my understanding and from other comments on another video , people were saying she walked away after he spat on her or something. What else could she have done besides removing herself from the situation/ going to get help? Please keep in mind that some public schools do not have the same funds or rules as others. I taught children with autism (In a normal class setting with other students ) oand probably would have done something similar. I'm racking my brain thinking of what else could be done for a simple issue such as taking away a device, but I'm not sure there was a better option besides ignoring the kid completely.

      @lisawilkerson8408 Před měsícem +4

      @RocketmanRockyMatrix We have called the Crisis team, and we were told that once we calm them down, then they will come out to assess the situation. We are provided training from the Crisis Prevention Institute. The training is for children who come to your chest. The two person procedure couldn't do anything with someone over 6'0 and more than 200lbs. If his reaction to having something taken from him is to beat someone out of existence, wouldn't you be afraid to work with him or have him around other students who might also take his things? I sit in meetings with parents and teams of professionals trying to help children who are out of control. By the time they are teenagers, they have logged several incidents in which they were a danger to others or self. They have been hospitals and have been given a variety of meds. I have found that providing a nurturing, structured environment in which they receive positive feedback and consequences are helpful for students who want change.

    As a board certified behavior analyst that provides services to children with autism, this is a sad and disturbing situation. This teen needs to be in a mental health facility where they are equipped to manage his behavior. It has been stated that he has had episodes previously, including misdemeanors. He should not have been placed in a public school after the first misdemeanor. Unfortunately those facilities are not always accessible due to availability and cost. The parent would have had to sue the school system in order for them to pay for a placement at a facility. Jail is not the best and appropriate place for him. He needs intense behavioral therapy. No one wins in this situation. The paraprofessional unfortunately had to suffer due to her triggering the teen. It was stated that she removed his Nintendo Switch. I would never for a teen that size take anything from him. She did not follow the Behavior Intervention plan, which provides instructions on how to handle behavior. I am sure it did not say take a preferred item from the student based on his history of aggression. She also was not trained in deescalation or protective moves to remain safe. Overall, it's a bad situation for all. Prayers for the teen going to jail and for the paraprofessional.

    Good! He needs to be in prison, just because you have a learning disability, doesn't mean that you get to lay your hands on somebody. I mean it's sad that he's going to prison where he's probably going to be picked on by others which is unfortunate, but these phones games tablets children are killing others over these things and it's really got to stop, just the other day I heard about a 12-year-old who killed her 8-year-old cousin over a iPhone. I did not have a cell phone until I was almost 25. Because I grew up before cell phones came out The only cell phones that I knew of were carphones and rich people having a cell phone but that's about it.

  • @bf6159
    @bf6159 Před měsícem +3

    They've had plenty of time to get him the "help" he needs. Rather than doing such, they enabled this now adult. Thus, any assertions related to help, care, or concern are BS. They are trying to play the sympathy card as to enable him to avoid accountability... which has obviously been a long standing issue with this young man. They assert he has the mentality of a 6 year old. A 6 year old who behaves like that should be introducted corporal punishment by the parents such, said behavior is never seen as an option... like they used to do when I was a kid. Autism is one of the many things which fell under the label Mentally Retarded. Just a couple decades ago, the Paremts/handlers were respondsible and they laid out expectations, with measurable ramifications for lack of adhearance. A 6 year old knows right from wrong, acceptable and unacceptable. I know folks who have such individuals in their family, those individuals behave because such was a defined expectation and rules were enforced from early childhood... like with any other child. That "mother" is a prime example as to why we have many of todays problems.

      Because prison serves more than one purpose. You’re so focused on rehabilitation that you’re ignoring the other three purposes of imprisonment. Separation from society for the safety of law abiding citizens, justice for the victims, and punishment for the convicted. Those group home staff are no more equipped than the teacher he almost killed. Justice for that teacher is not found in a group home. Punishment for that man is not found in that group home.
