    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dolly Parton is a country music legend. She has won over two dozen Grammys. She has been nominated for two Academy Awards. She’s the recipient of the “Living Legend Award” from the U.S. Library of Congress and seven Academy of Country Music Awards. Not bad for the daughter of a Tennessee tobacco farmer. Her “rags to rhinestones” story is so fascinating, there is a history course named after her at the University of Tennessee. Dolly is a singer, songwriter, actress, philanthropist, and businesswoman. It’s hard to believe that she was voted “Least Likely to Succeed” in high school.
Dolly Parton’s songs have reached the number one spot on Billboard’s music charts twenty-five times. She owns one of the biggest and most successful theme parks in America. Dollywood gets over three million guests every year. She started her own non-profit organization with the goal of sparking young children’s love for books and reading to honor her father, who never learned to read or write. Her podcast, “Dolly Parton’s America” has been called the “Best Podcast of 2019” by Forbes magazine. With all of these milestones, it’s hard to believe that Dolly struggled with depression. She has seen her share of heartache and suffering. Especially after having an affair with Burt Reynolds. Thankfully, her dog, Popeye, was there to save her life. Through it all, she never lost her sense of humor. She said she knows some of the best Dolly Parton jokes because she made them up herself. Here is the true story of Dolly Parton.

Well yeah but these people honestly didn't always know any better. My nana was born in 1929 and had to raise her younger siblings. And when my nana was in her 20s her MOM asked her how babies were actually made. She'd had 10 babies but she had to ask her daughter to explain how it worked. I don't think we can always conceive of the lack of knowledge that people in poverty (especially women in poverty) had back then (especially about anything to do with sex/health/bodies.)

@@ala-lash3710 I understand what youre saying about them not knowing the biological process. Hell many people today dont fully know that but they know sex=babies. Not knowing the process of how they are made has nothing to do with the responsibility of care once they are here. I dont think thats really a matter of not knowing better and more about an attitude of thats how it is thats whats expected to have a large family and have the older ones take care of the younger ones.

Most have been rich since birth but not had celeb parents like Florence Pugh, Timothee Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Anya Taylor Joy, Ed Sheeran, etc. It is rare to find one that comes from a working class background. My favorite Dolly story was told by Julia Roberts about their time making the movie Steel Magnolias. Roberts said the entire cast and crew, except Dolly, were complaining about the brutal Louisiana summer heat (especially filming winter scenes in big coats!). Roberts said they were all impressed and asked why she didn't complain. Dolly explained that when she was a little girl she prayed and asked God to make her rich and a star and now that He had given that to her was she wasn't going to complain! She is a positive, faith-filled person. I also heard that she would cook for everyone.

To those who wondering whatever happened to the baby left on Dolly Parton‘s doorstep, Dolly Parton herself does not know what happened to that child. She only tells the story with the information in this CZcams video. She says it was the craziest thing ever happened to her. She said she was ill-equipped to take on a baby at that time. She didn’t want the authorities to think she had anything to do with the child’s circumstances so she did what she thought was best and called the authorities right away. She says she often wonders whatever happened to that child but has never sought out the child and never will in the future. She also said she could not imagine treating a baby like a puppy or a kitten and Life isn’t like the movies where she could just take the child on no questions asked.

Dollywood theme park in Tennessee is absolutely beautiful, lots of beautiful music and shows, big rides, mountain history, and some good southern food and baking. I sound like an ad but I really enjoyed visiting there!

Just have to say, that podcast is not “Dolly’s podcast” it’s a podcast created by Jad Abumrad, from Radiolab. He interviewed her extensively, but that does not make it “her” podcast. Need to give credit because he worked on it for years.

Tragic??? Dolly is the original personification of the American Dream!!! She’s the *original* rags-to-riches story! Not to mention, she’s such an amazing woman. She has donated untold millions to her Imagination Library (they send 1 book per month to children from Birth til they start Kindergarten) and to countless charities here in the Smokies. Dolly is a Saint.

Michele Ashley The only tragedy in this story was the death of her younger brother. Her childhood sounds close to something I’d aim for when I start a family of my own. That being said, I hope you heal. The mouth speaks out of the abundance of the heart, and that was a nasty comment to read.

Rosalía_ reina de España So? What does your comment even have to do with anything? More than one thing can be true at the same time. Sure, he did a lot of great things. So has Dolly. Why is he the only one entitled to have a ”rags to riches” story? 🤔

I just finished watching... she certainly did rise up, and it never changed her. She is an absolute icon. Jolene for sure. If anyone remembers vinyl, I had a 45 of Jolene. Still love her today... great cover of her rise up

The word tragic and Dolly don't belong in the same sentence! Even here in England, we know that this Lady is an Angel sent to earth! Nothing but enormous respect for this true Lady in every sense of the word!

She's arguably one of the greatest female singer songwriters EVER!! If you go beyond the hig pop hits and listen to songs like "The Bridge" "Little Sparrow" or "Dreamin" her virtuosity becomes apparent
