CA Extreme Mustang Makeover 2020- Snooze's Journey (100 Day Wild Mustang Challenge)

- Snooze is a 5-year-old mustang mare from Devils Garden California. She was my random draw for the 2020 Los Angeles Extreme Mustang Makeover in California (held virtually due to COVID-19).
We picked up in July and had approximately 120 days to tame, train, and compete with our mustangs (filmed last week of October) November 11-14. Trainers and mustangs spend the time preparing for a handling & conditioning class, trail class, and maneuvers class. Top 10 competes Saturday (compulsory & freestyle) and an auction follows the makeover.
Snooze and I made the Top 10 and advanced to freestyle. Out of all the trainers that signed up for this competition, over 70% dropped out. We had an amazing group of trainers (also my friends!) to compete against and it was tough competition and by far one of the best selling groups of mustangs the EMM has seen. We ended in 4th overall (just 2.5pts short of 3rd!). I'm extremely proud of her for this whole training period, she's been great to work with. She is going to a really good home in California.

Nevaeh MacKinnon ~ we follow the journeys and somehow these amazing mustangs find a way into our hearts through here. I couldn't imagine having to give some of them up, but I understand to continue on and giving other mustangs a chance for a very good life, you'd have to. I wish they had these mustang makeovers back when I was younger, I would definitely had done them.

It all started in California, and it has gone full circle. Sam, I hope you'll continue participating in and documenting these makeovers. They are inspirational and truly showcase the versatility of these incredible animals. The fact that you were able to ride her Western, English, Bareback and bridleless, in less than 6 months, is a clear demonstration of this.
I hope her new owners love her just as much as you do!!!!!

I am ugly crying. What you and Snooze have is magic and the dream for any horse lover. I lost my Goose in September. He was 27 and I had him for 22 years. Probably intensifies my reaction to “So Long, My Friend”. I mean damn. 😭😭😭😭😭 Best wishes to Snooze in her new home.

Hi Sam! The CZcams algorithm suggested you to me one day after many random nights of me watching horse videos to please my inner childhood dream. I stuck around because you look so much like my little sister its uncanny. Your videos have been so enjoyable to watch and your lifestyle is just as extreme as your mustang makeovers, it’s positively incredible! I don’t know if I’ll ever get a chance to fulfill my childhood dream and own even one horse, as my current lifestyle just wouldn’t allow for it, but for now I’m happy to live vicariously through you. Watching Lynx, Roulette and Snooze over these last few months has been such a treat, and you are an amazing trainer. I feel like I’ve learned so much without ever even really being around horses. Can’t wait to see your next project!
This gentle beauty is going to be hard to miss for so many of us who haave grown quickly to love her. She's very special. Have to say, Snooze and yourself were the first Mustang makeover I've watched and I'm so enlightened by it. I live in England, UK and I have not much hope of doing something similar but this definitely made me thankful to you and others out there who are giving these beautiful animals the best chance of a happy life even if it was just a competition - it clearly goes much further than that! Having to let go.. after all that time spent together. Training, working.. building a unique bond. And you do it again each time to give these horses a well deserved home. I do hope the new owner will love her as much as you did!

❤ the love for mustang's, how they are unique and special. Not to mention their curiosity of learning. And having that personality that makes it easy to create a bond with them. They are blessings from heaven.I have been watching you work with these beautiful mustang's for quite awhile. And from my experience of training them. It's good to see alot of people giving these mustang's a second chance. I'm from New mexico. And mustang's are what saved me from alot of things. And taught me alot of things. Been training them since I was 8. And by far, it's always gonna be the best decision I make when I take in a mustang to make the best of it and prove and show they are worth something than dog food, or so they say" destructive animals"etc... You did a fantastic job! I started my horsemanshipship with mustangs. One is now back with a big herd one a 100 acre ranch. The other is with an amazing home. I miss them both and will aways think about them. They were my friends horses. Now I have my own mustang.

I've been having such a hard time getting involved with the equestrian community. it's so expensive and my parents aren't really horse people, so it's the least priority. there's nothing i want more in life than to train a horse from scratch. I know it's hard. I know it's frustrating and a lot of work but it's so rewarding. Watching this video made me tear up even, seeing how much Snooze grew to trust you. seriously, kudos. You've accomplished such an extraordinary feat and I'm truly in awe
