    The resemblance between how Jordan sings in this song and in Raise a Little Hell is so great. Similar tension and panic. He's rougher, not as smooth as in, say, This World Will Remember Us. It's gorgeous.

    This is my favorite song in this show. It shows how rocky their relationship was. It was hard for them, and they weren't perfect lovers, but they loved each other too much, so they got over themselves for each other. (Mostly Bonnie of course) Bonnie did so much for Clyde, and it was hard for her, but she choose him over everything else time and time again.

      You certainly know your B&C history. I've studied the pair for over twenty years, and everything you said is true. B&C may not have been efficient thieves (John Dillinger once called them "a bunch of punks who are giving bank-robbing a bad name":), but their devotion to one another is undeniable. They often risked their lives (and freedom) for each other. For example, when she broke him out of jail. Also, when Bonnie's leg was badly burned in a car wreck, instead of dropping her off at home -- some of Mrs. Parker's neighbors even warned her that Clyde would kill Bonnie because she would be a burden to him -- he took care of her and even stole a doctor's kit to tend to her wounds. Yes, Bonnie gave up a lot for Clyde, but in turn he remained devoted to her, too.

      It's true! And precisely because it was her choice, she is not a victim as many people want to see her. She was also involved in the robberies and was faithful to Clyde in everything he did, she was even pleased by it.

    This whole thing should've been reversed for accuracy's sake (yes, I understand why they did it the way they did and that the musical isn't the real thing, however, it does a very good job portraying them, *the only note I would say, is reverse this song and dont play Bonnie off as a naive little girl who fell in love with a bad guy*.) Bonnie *never* wanted out, yes, there was a moment in their story that, like the she talks about in _This World Will Remember Us_ at 1:38-1:55 where she "bails" Clyde out of jail *ie, helps him escape by smuggling his gun into his ceil* on the condition that he would stop the life he was leading, and they would be able to have a normal life. Keeping in mind, that neither Clyde nor Bonnie ever intended to lead the life they lead, they were both extremely talented, she wanted to be an actor/write, and he wanted to be a musician (Clye was only 21 and Bonnie 19 when they first met), but Clyed grew up in a messed up family with a messed up mother who more or less encouraged his outlawed lifestyle because she got something out of it as well as enablizing, and later on when Clyde meets Bonnie, she doesnt stop him, she loves his outlaw lifestyle, it makes her famous and gets her the attention she wants, not to mention the rush of the chase, she was enthralled with him and his "bad boy" life style, she *never* tells him she wants out or that she's leaving, like this song would lead you to believe. She knew full well what she was getting herself into, she may have been only 19, but she was *anything* _but_ naive; she knew when the law caught up with them, and his life ended, so would hers, and she was okay with that, even told Clye no when he was the one trying to convince her to go back to her old life and get away from him, for her sake. She was enthralled with him, yes, but, I think, somewhere along the way, they really did fall in love with each other(well, as "inlove" as they knew how to be, anyway).
    *ALSO* , making it seem like Clyde would ever force Bonnie into kissing him/anything else for that matter, is absurd, and inaccurate, also, even in the musical, Bonnie *does* stand up for herself, I dont remember exactly when, but they were having an arguement, Bonnie says something, and Clye actually *slaps her* and tells her to never say whatever she said (I dont remember what it was), and then she immediately_ turns around and slaps him back and tells him to "never touch me like that again", which I was glad to see, personally*

      (Clyde slaps Bonnie)
      Clyde: Don't you ever raise your voice to me, sugar!
      (Bonnie slaps him)
      Bonnie: Don't _you_ ever raise a hand to me, baby!

      In the off broadway production that was in California, this song didn't exist, instead in it's place was a song where Bonnie was begging Clyde to not leave her behind as he tried to protect her after killing the officer. As historically accurate as it was it wasn't nearly as catchy and so it was replaced by this one

      @fifiswann951 Před 6 lety +75

      Yeah I don’t like how they portrayed that. The original Bonnie wanted to stay with Clyde and he tried to make her turn back to save her future. The musical makes Clyde seem forceful and like a real bad guy even and Bonnie like a normal person, but both of them were the same amount of unhinged. That’s probably why they loved each other so much

    • @justme-ew3ri

      Fifiswann In the version with Stark sands this song was completely different, it's on youtube but it portrays what you are saying and Frank wildhorn wrote the songs for the actors and so maybe that version wouldn't work with the way Jeremy sings or something or maybe because he sings in almost all of the songs and they wanted to even it out a little, in the other version Laura sings more than in this one but idk

    • @musicaltheatergeek79

      *fionaswann* yeah, I don't like how Laura Osnes' Bonnie came off more of an ingénue than a criminal. I've studied the pair for over 20 years, and Bonnie was very much Clyde's enabler and willing accomplice. She was scrappy in elementary/high school and was known to pick fights with both girls and boys.
      Granted, Bonnie probably would not have entered a criminal life if it weren't for Clyde (though her estranged husband, Roy Thornton, was a part-time crook who ended up in prison), but she was fascinated by Clyde and idol-worshipped him. By all accounts, he was charming (albeit a control freak) with a baby-face, dimples, and full lips -- and he shared her longing for fame/fortune! Yes, she did tell Clyde early on while he was in jail "I want you to be a man and not a thug" (just like in the play), but that was short-lived. Bonnie saw Clyde as her ticket out of impoverished West Dallas. The romance was just gravy.
