That is a popular question with no good answer. The heli cut gears are very strong and give no issues. GM built the straight cuts for HD, and most aftermarket gear sets are also straight cut. I have never seen any actual test data.
@@mountainsgarage thanks for the quick reply, Dexron iii is getting hard to find seems like most of the chain stores only have dexron VI now. Alot of people also say type F is fine
Hi Shawn love your channel
Why would the dual roller bearing tail not be more desirable than the normal bushimg type?
Great vid as always. I have see a few of those th475 on craigslist with drum had no idea that they were stronger than a 400
cf mechanic Usually low mileage as well!
Thanks for the surprise Shawn , great video as always
Quick question. What grit sanding stone would I use to sand the valve body flat on the case
I use a sharpening stone, it just says medium and fine. Double sided.
How much stronger are the straight cut gears

So is that th400 $1500 WITH CORE, OUT THE DOOR.
This is a DIY video, you should be able to do it for that if you shop around.
Hey shawn I'm sure you covered this before but what fluid do you recommend for a street/weekend warrior th400? Thanks in advance
I use either Dextron III or Low Viscosity Tractor Fluid. Nothing fancy.

@@grannysgarage8101 I have never been a Type F fan, hate the smell of it and how it varnished up in Ford transmissions.
@@mountainsgarage I'll try to find some dexron iii, thanks again
Can I ship my th400 to you for a full build?
Where are you from?
If you could figure out shipping…
What's the part# for the trans brake your using ? And thanks for the info!
It is a TSI T-400. Transmission Specialities. It was $429 on eBay
There are a few other billet ones I am going to try that are less than $500
