I love this list -- I am an old AH-player from the 70s on. I especially loved that I learned about two games, "Conquest of Nerath" and "Origins of WW II". Seems both need to be brought back into print, and a quick on line search found that "Origins" is decidedly less expensive than "Nerath". "Origins" and "Nerath" appeal to different sides of my gaming nature. I will keep an eye out for them when my FLGS has one of its come-sell--your-used-games events.

Nice number one pick. I just recently got the Conquest of Nerath and I really want to try it out. Have you played Assault of the Giants or Nexus Ops? Both awesome games as well.
Standing to one side, but the camera seems to be focused on the shelves at the centre. Be better focused on your face (you can then lock the focus and still stand to the side).
It is now published as Boxcars. There are arguably better train games and it took all evening but when it is the first board game you played regularly with your college buddies...well one can't help having a soft spot for it in your heart and memories.
I pay Homage to Avalon Hill, makers of my first wargames.I have been at it for almost fifty years. I tell you Cody my secret to winning every time at Axis&Allies. Keep passing out beers to your opponents while you drink juice and watch them fall one by one. bru,ha ha ha....😆
BUDDY! Picking this large category meant you had to pass up a TON of great games... First off... NO MTG? DENIED!?!?!?!? IF it came down to only a few "desert island games"... MTG would have to be one of them... on the deck building alone. AH... been playing since I was 14 (Coffin box games... D-Day, Midway, Africa Korps)... IF I had to pick one (maybe two)... PanzerBlitz/Panzer leader/Squad Leader and "B-17, Queen of the Skies", BUT... that's leaving behind games like "Tactics II", "Blitzkrieg", "Status Pro Baseball, Football, Basketball", and so many others. Have you reviewed "Armeggeddon War" by Flying Pig Games... looks amazing! Keep up the good work....
Probably an age thing, but my AH faves are Dune, Republic of Rome and top of the heap - Advanced Civilization. All of them can go long, but if you have the time there's a ton of fun to be had.
Tibbs?...Lol...Do you mean Tubbs?...Oh wait...you Olmos had me I second A&A, and I second and triple and quadruple Origins of WWII! I'll throw out Nexus Ops as an honorable mention also...just a fun game.
I agree that Origins could use an upgrade and a reprint. I played it in high school in the 70s and really enjoyed it. I bought a copy off ebay last year. With the way geo-political games have gone with CDG mechanics and COIN type rules, a revised Origins could easily be a hit without being as complicated as, for example, Democracy under Siege. Thanks for the video.
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer I did own Mage Knoght which wasn't too bad but got a little bit more like work than a game :) Don't think any of these made your top 10 the last couple of years though Cody ;)
@@omnitheus5442 Never played Mage Knight (though I owned a copy for a few years). I did play Star Trek Frontiers, which I enjoyed, but I agree that it was a little more work that I wanted from a game.
Magic Realm was released in the late 1970s and was Avalon Hill's response to the success of D & D (a game they had a chance to purchase, but turned down before it became huge). I owned Magic Realm as a kid and while the game had some interesting concepts, especially in the large hex tiles used to create the world, it was also a big mess. Legend had it that Magic Realm was never really playtested and even if it was, it sure didn't seem like it. AH released a second edition, but it didn't get anywhere and the game soon faded away. Although, it is now a collector's item. Personally, to make the changes in the game necessary to have a playable system would mean creating a new game, so that seems like a better choice. Having said that, there were some interesting aspects to Magic Realm that could be explored.
Have not played AH Civilization, but I loved FFG's new Civilization: A New Dawn. I don't know why you say CoN is not balanced. We've had winners from every faction.
Conquest of Nerath is easily fixed if you don't allow chips to be used for dragons... and you don't allow more than one dragon to rest in a space. You are limited by the models. The game designer even added this as errata to the rules.

Thanks! I owned Nexus Ops but never got it to the table. Here's my review for Assault of the Giants: czcams.com/video/v1HmSb5H9A8/video.html
Nexus Ops is a great choice! I'd also have to mention Merchant of Venus... and Diplomacy. :-) Oh... and Britannia! :-D
Ha! There are just too many!
I love Conquest of Nerath but can never get people to play it.
Yeah- it's a great game! I need to hit it again!

I was actually experimenting with my equipment for this video. But, I ain't no professional, so ya takes what you gets! ;)
In college my roommate introduced me to Rail Baron and that was my start into Modern Boardgaming
I haven't played that one.

Ha! Great strategy!
Great video, great list. Volume was very low for some reason. But other than that, good job.
Thanks. I was experimenting with some video/audio options here, so that's why the volume is so low.
The Discriminating Gamer that's ok, live and learn

I've played Rex, but not Dune. Haven't played the others.
No Dune?
I've played FFG's Rex, but not the original Dune.
Dune, History of the World, Statis Pro Baseball, Paydirt, Wooden Ships and Iron Men

Thank you. Would love to see Origins of WWII back out there!
Looking at this list I see why I don't own a single game from any of these publishers lol!
That's too bad. There's some great games here.

They need to sort of the license for Magic Realm if they haven't already got it and redo it.
I am unfamiliar with it.

You did not even mention Avalon Hill Civilization, HERETIC!
Conquest of Nerath is good, but obviously not balancd or playtested (Wizard's syndrome)

Not to mention Advanced Civilization. Wish they'd do a reprint. Lost my copy many years ago but just not willing to fork out what they go for now.
