Love the list!
I'd have to say that my all time personal pick for worst sequel would be "Back to the Future Part II & III" for the NES. I know what you're thinking, "But Shane!" -you say "How could anything be worse than the original Back to the Future for the NES?!". Well the same developer and same publisher found a way to take what they did in the first game and turn it into a psychotic nightmare. I can find some of the good points in the original game, but the sequel is a disaster.
Can you do an It's Just Bad episode with these games please? That would be awesome!
What damned DA 2 was the development cycle. They had less than 2 years to make that game. As such, it was gonna be of lesser quality than Origins. EA forced Bioware to rush the game out, and as a result we got the weakest game in the series so far. DA 2 had the potential to be a great game, but instead we ended up with a "leaf in the wind" main character, a constant reusing of assets, and a game that was 4 hours too long (Act 3 felt rushed).
Dude the game was made to explain hawk backstory and to let you that the enemy in Inquisition is corypheus
One of the rare games that's simultaneously too long (too many reused areas and redundant quests) and too short (the last part of the story is super rushed).
And it wasn't even a Devil May Cry game originally. Dante was added last minute. That's why he feels so out of place.
I liked Sonic 3D Blast. *runs away*
SuperHns
Mario 2 and Sonic 3d Blast do not follow the formula set by the previous games.
+FizzedPixels It's a guilty pleasure of mine, but I can see why people hate it.
Alundra 2 was garbage. Please give it the thorough shitting-on it deserves.
I agree Alundra 2 is the most stupid game they ever did, i LOVED the first one and when i got my hands on the second one i was realy excited for it and then that shitpile came along :v
I actually got the game when I was like 9 or 10. I remember thinking it was so good! I grew up, and I saw people hated it so fucking much... enraged, I found a copy and played it... Did I have a cognitive disorder as a child?! Was I dropped!? What happened!?!?
I think I may be the only person on the internet who likes it xD
I love how you started the Castlevania installment like it was hey did you know gaming video
I just want to comment and say I really love the quality of this video! I clicked thinking it was just gonna be another 'top 10 lists' where you guys just rattle off games and just list a fact or two and make a pun. You could've done that but you gave us 25 fucking minutes of well edited and well expressed criticism of a really interesting pool of games. Looking forward to seeing more from y'all!
FF12 is one of my favorite FF games. I think it just has windwaker syndrome and will find mass appeal one day as a cult classic.
I never touched FF12, but I've heard some bad things about it. Is that true?
Ben Link no. it's a legitimately awesome game with a lot going for it. and the international edition, which is the version getting an HD remaster out in july, is spectacular and has a lot of depth in it's approach to character growth and also has a slew of amazing side quests and optional hard as nails bosses. the characters are mostly really interesting, though a few are rather weak, and the plot has a lot of interesting things going on. definitely give it a go
@@thekidkrow I hated everything about it.
The license board alone completely destroys any entertainment value it may have had, and it's far from my only complaint. *_FUCK_* the license board.
"A bad scooby doo game" Damn straight, nothing can be as great as the legend known as P4! Atlus makes the greatest scooby doo game!
Final Fantasy XIII had some great character development arcs for Hope/Lightning and Sazh/Vanille. Those arcs were actually really engaging! ...It's a pity the game forgot all about them once they concluded, though. >:/
I disagree with your points on FF13. Lightning wasn't an interesting character.
Arcadea
OK then, that's acceptable. :-D I liked Snow until his little breakdown. They shattered my perception of his motivation.
BigK
That's sort of how I was looking at him. Specifically, between Hope's mother's death and Hope asking him about not saving everyone, I thought he was mostly putting up the macho facade to keep the spirits of the younger members up since they essentially had a death sentence and were outcasts.
BigK
Well, there were a few points where he lacked the bravado, like when they fell and he stayed with the Sera (Sara?) crystal or on the ship with Cid. When he returns he's 110% confidence and positivity. So that's why I thought he was putting up a front (or just exaggerating) for Hope and Vanilla's sakes.
Being a tank and having a piece of equipment called the paladin, I sort of projected a lot of what I think of a paladin/tank archetype onto him. Self-sacrificing, noble, protective, etc.
72 hours to beat one play through of inquisition?
Bro, give me 42, I'll have played through, banged iron bull, and moved on to my next play through.
I don't know Austin, a lot of people, myself included, like Final Fantasy 12.
I even like it way more than 10.
+Owari Dragon I'm with you guys, 12 is one of my favorite PS2 titles. Blows 10 out of the water. Though 9 remains my favorite.
A lot of people love metroid other , doesn't make it better than the originals though
+Owari Dragon
Sorry, but FF13 beat out FF12 on everything but story. It is part of the lackluster three (FF5, FF8, FF12) for having broken elements. However, be glad that it's not FF14 (1.0), FF2 or FF3.
*****
Nice rebuttal *sarcasm*. Good to see people using logic to argue their point in the argument.

Not when it's a video game. exploitable combat systems are an integral part of a video game. A story has an importance, but it's not the driving force. Otherwise every David Cage video game would be a masterpiece and we just watch movies all the time.
I know you didn't want anger from it... but Dragon Age 2 is one of my favourites in the franchise, it really gave you the feeling that you were part of this grand story and that the choices you made in the game had an impact on the world - romance plots were more engaging and the characters were some of the best in the series. I loved playing as Hawke and really got attached to his character, he felt less bland that the heroes of Origins and Inquisition.
Inquisition was my least favourite in the series. It had open world which was cool, but I hated that I had to quickly relearn how to use the controls, and that my PS3 could only handle it for about 2 hours before the game froze and I had to leave it to cool down for the rest of the day. The characters didn't seem as engaging, the romance plots were almost boring. It was a real struggle for me to finish and became more of a chore than a fun game.
Origins is still of course a great game though - just never could really get that attached to my own character. I liked that the characters you could romance in 2 weren't locked based on gender. I love playing as male characters in video games as I feel a lot more able to make them into characters than just dull 'what would I do in this situation' that I get trapped in when I play as female characters. But I'm constantly stuck in 'If you want to play as a guy and romance a guy you're stuck with this one option'.
With the exception of Sebastian who was DLC content, 2 just let you play the game how you wanted to play it.
Hawke was a shit protagonist, they were pretty much pointless in the grand scheme of things.
Hawke was great...if you only picked the playful/sarcastic options. Everything else, I disagree with, especially the romantic plots. Felt like DA2 had the worst romantic plots and characters to choose from in Bioware's history until Mass Effect Andromeda came along
Number 1._STAR WARS: BATTLEFRONT (2015)_.
**EDIT** Actually, _Paper Mario Sticker Star_.
I just wanted to use this comment to bring up Jak & Daxter: The Lost Frontier.
Sire, Ganon and his minions have sieged the island of Korodai!
That was a more of a spinoff then a sequel but it was still pretty disappointing
It's always great to find another person who enjoyed Final Fantasy XII.
I was pretty skeptical of this list at first, but these choices were spot on. Pretty much all of these games are shittier than the original game. I also loved Scrib's & Strekks' bits. I think they both added a lot to the video and it was a nice break from Austin.
YO AND SICK JOJO REFERENCES.
I love the fact that you include a tid bit of the game series at the number of the countdown... it may not sound like a lot but compared to everyone else reusing the same step again and again in countdowns it was refreshing. Liked and Subbed :)
Speaking of Suikoden and bad sequels, I feel like 4 missed the boat. It really shipped the bed. Nautical words.
Suikoden 1 was alright, Suikoden 2 is a legit freaking masterpiece up there with Chrono Trigger, FF6/7 and all the other greats... 3 is alright... 4 is mediocre and being a prequel set so long before all the others, completely squanders the continuity that made the game series so special, 5 is good-ish
Talk about extreme-swings. XD
Yo Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge is SOOOOOOOO much better than the original.
But Ninja Gaiden 2 is fucking god-tier game.
Razor's Edge is like a campy parody of NG2, which is both great and god-awful.
Knife climbing is still super stupid though, especially when "Flying-Bird-Flip" is quicker and flashier.
But Perfect Dark is a Prequel, not a sequel. and Sonic 3D isn't a sequel to anything :S
FF13 is not a sequel. It has a sequel but it's completely seperate from other Final Fantasy games.
+FalconLazer While none of the MAIN games are sequels, there ARE Final Fantasy sequels. A few examples are:
Final Fantasy X-2
Final Fantasy IV: The After Years
Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings
+Arcadea yea no. I know you dislike the game. Me personally I thought it was good, but it doesint count as a sequel. Now go play 13-2 if you want to put 13 on the list.
+Saloz94 It's called Final Fantasy THIRTEEN. Just because each FF game has a different story/world/lore(slightly) doesn't mean they aren't connected. If that's the case, why did Square Enix not just give them different names?
It's not a DIRECT sequel, but it's still a sequel because of it's part of the Final Fantasy series.
It's like saying Pokemon Black is not a sequel to Pokemon because Pokemon Black 2 exist.
UsonoHoushi Heres the thing they are not connected. There is no slightly. Theres a big margin. Its a brand new world, new characters and lore. Sqaure kept the name cause it made them money. Its a way to make and keep brand recognition. So again unless hes talking about 13-2 or x2 or any of the actual FF sequels then putting FF13 does not count. The closest thing he can put is entry. Also noone on any gaming board iv seen has ever called them sequels unless they were talking about the actual FF sequel games.
Thank you!!! Dragon Age 2 was so fucking horrible! Being an Origins fan, I wanted to rip my arm off just so I had something to hit the publishers with!
Love the in-depth work here. Excellent job, would Arcadea again.
I hated XIII's entire cast, the crap-shoot "buy a strategy guide" combat, the dumb AI, and the synth pop half of the soundtrack.
XII was a decent entry in the series, but it would've been better if Square Enix execs kept out of it and let Matsuno do his job. Vaan wasn't as bad as Tidus, but I'd have preferred Basch as the protagonist Matsuno intended him to be.
'Buy a strategy guide'? It was more 'auto-combat until you max out your shit for a while, then auto-attack/heal for a while'...
Worse than the terribly slow, unengaging combat is the fact that you can't grind for hours while doing something else to make it easier on yourself later. Hint to RPG makers: If I want to avoid combat because it's more tedious than just mashing the confirm button, you've done something wrong!
WHAT DID YOU SAY ABOUT THE SOUNDTRACK?!! I CAN UNDERSTAND HATING THE GAMEPLAY, BUT YOU CANT INSULT THE SOUNDTRACK!!!
Bad sequels I'd put up if this were my list:
-Megaman X6: Say what you will about X7, but at least that game wasn't so broken that I couldn't even finish it. The level design was so horrendous, even playing the game with the Ultimate Armor was like putting a band aid on a gunshot wound. The game was rushed to be released not even a year after X5 came out, and it showed. The game wasn't even made with Inafune's permission. He originally planned to end the X series with X5, but Capcom decided to pull a Them-Ten-Years-Later and milk the series. Because of this, it fucked up Inafune's original plans for the "Zero" series that have been built up since MMX4, When the game isn't giving you shitty level design, it makes getting everything almost completely luck-based. You can go the entire game without getting Zero back. Speaking of which, they retconned Zero's death in a way that could out-stupid Nanako Dojima's resurrection. He repaired himself. That's the explanation. He fucking repaired himself. Damn, that's pretty impressive for a robot that got blown in half and having only one arm in a fortress that crumbled to the fucking ground. Finally, we have Gate. He could have been a nice change in the status quo, breaking the usual formula of having Sigma as the main villain. Instead, he ends up being a very generic villain and then Sigma comes back as a zombie. Sigma was such a non-entity in this game, it made you wonder why they even bothered having him.
-Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories: From a story stand-point, it's a pretty decent game (at least with the Non-Disney parts of the game). However, the gameplay sucks. Who thought that an action-based card battle system was a good idea? The whole point of a card game is to take turns so you can think your strategies out. The cards in your decks aren't even randomized. In every battle you get in, you get the same cards in your deck, making the game incredibly repetitive. You can spend the majority of the game pressing either X or Triangle (I played the PS2 version), taking away any semblance of strategy the other KH games had. The only time you ever have to think of a strategy is when you have to fight bosses. During boss fights, if you're not careful, you will run out of cards, making yourself unable to attack. You'll either have to wait for a Pluto card to help you get more cards or you can let the boss wail on you until you're dead. You'll be completely defenseless. What exactly is stopping Sora from just swinging his fucking Keyblade at the boss? If they made the cards for special attacks, items, and spells, that would have been acceptable. In fact, they fucking do that with "Birth By Sleep." This especially gets frustrating with Riku for two reasons: 1. Riku can't customize his deck. Once you enter a world, you can't change your deck to try something new on the boss you just lost to. 2. Riku doesn't have Pluto cards, so if he runs out of cards, you may as well welcome the sweet embrace of death.
Fallout 4 isn't the franchise trying new things, is the franchise being bastardized to follow trends by a company that didn't even create it in the first place.
+Keihzaru It was either see the game you love shift style and just enjoy the world of Fallout, or never see a game again. Take your pick.
Knight Bear Fuel "Just Enjoy the world of Fallout"? Like people did with Resident Evil 6?
You see, even if I were to ignore the shift in style I couldn't just "enjoy the world of Fallout" because the bastardization went deep, even into the lore and stablished canon. So no.
I also can just hope for Obsidian to make a new Fallout game. I am allowed to express an opinion on the bastardization of the game, no idea why it is such a problem for some people. You can only express negative opinions when it's popular to be negative.
oh shit! You're the other guy that liked FF12? I was an FFXI addict so 12 felt right at home with me. This is the first video of yours I've seen, and I really enjoyed it. I am a bit older and have been a gamer since I was 5. Seeing discussions and commentary on games I grew up with that a lot of people never played or heard of is pretty sweet. subbed
I quite liked FF12. If you can get over how useless Vaas is and ignore him and Penelo, it's a pretty great game. Amazing setting, decent story and extremely grindy gameplay that really depends on the individuals preference. I enjoyed it back when I was in my 20's, though I'd probably have no time for it these days. XD
#10 - Probably my #1 ironically. I really REALLY REALLY Hate this game. The fact the game has 99 levels and it only gives you ONE BLOODY CONTINUE is a criminal offense.
#9 - I just had to play it a bit for my XBOX 360 list, and man did I hate it. I felt the controls felt janky, the missions were dull, and the controls felt cumbersome. It's amazing how the game got so much acclaim in 2005... but a decade later it did not stand the test of time.
#8 - Never played it, and it'll stay that way.
#7 - Easily the worst in the series. I have no idea why people hate the reboot so much considering how underwhelming the level design and combat of this one was...
#6 - I love the side slash ability, but to me my least favorite entry is the 2010 remake.
#5 - I only played it for 2 hours. I enjoy playing games for actually letting me input commands on the controller. Alas, I felt I was handheld the hold time. I am ok with linear map design, since I did like 10, but taking the control out of the combat was the final straw.
#4 - Razor's Edge improved some things but yeah, it is the weakest of the series.
#3 - Well, I liked learning about games I didn't play much growing up. :)
#2 - I think I was amazed by this game since I was easily blown away by 3D at the time, but then again I can totally see why people dislike it. I like it in a "guilty pleasure" sort of way.
#1 - Never played the series but I heard horror stories about it. So WORD WILL BE TAKEN!
Good video, the effort shows, guys :)
Thank Kirkhope that Bomberman Live and Super Bomberman R made up for the total _mess_ that was Bomberman Act Zero.
#7 they didn't reboot it after 2 they made DMC 3 which was better than the first and 4 which was.... okay. But they changed Dante's image to make him more "relatable" and he ended up feeling like he belonged on the CW. Gameplay was still really good if a little toned down and I actually did like the designs on all the non-character things, but I still far prefer the "actual" reboot Bayonetta.
found you via game theorist! Glad I checked out your channel, you guys are great! subbed :)
1:08 (sarcastic voice) You never hear THAT anymore. Im going for hell for that aren't I
Great job, as always, Eruption. I agree with most of your titles. Great to see you guys growing.
Oh look, another CZcamsr shitting on FF13 and Dragon Age 2. You should have made this a top 12 to rag on Metroid Other M and Skyward Sword just like everyone else.
+FinalDragoon Hey man. Bad is bad.
Let's not talk about the other 8 I guess.
+Arcadea
FFXIII isn't bad, just different. Sure it is linear, most single player, non open world RPG is linear in some degree. But there is some battles that auto-attacking = death, and to use the character specific commands you have to input it manually. Also comparing it to any of the early FF isn't right, seeing that they all have different game mechanics, that are vastly different. Bashing on FFXIII for being different is hating the entire FF series as they are all different.
I do agree that Legaia 2 deserves it's spot.
Some of us hate skyward sword because it just wasn't a good Zelda game
+Triser Tricordoh
I like 13's battle system, to a point. It flows really well and perfectly nails that sense of style that the series has been chasing since 7. However, people don't hate 13 because it's different. It's hated because it's not a good game. It's a very pretty game, but ultimately shallow and soulless. The story is utter nonsense, almost all of the characters are one note and terrible. Everyone is designed well and Sazh, Snow, and Fang can be fun at times, but they're not well developed characters and no one else really offers much either. Everything about the world feels too enclosed and poorly designed. FFX was incredibly linear as well, but it didn't feel like a 20-30 hour straight line because of how the world was designed and how each area had a life of it's own (usually). Even though the airship was limited it's inclusion also helped significantly.
or, and bear with me here, you can select your abilities in Final Fantasy 13. there is an option for that you know. you don't have to use the auto battle system. it is pretty stupid sometimes anyway. why mix in magic during a combo if the enemy has no difference in resistance to magic or physical and your character has higher strength than magic, but that is what the auto battle did. that is why i always manually picked my abilities in FF13. not saying FF13 is the best game ever, not by any means, it just isn't as bad as people say.
What's the song at the end of the video?
I liked Dragon Age 2.
I actually really liked the FFXIII series =(
TheLegendOfSora73 i love the ost. And the new stuff in XIII-2 like qte and stuff, are great ideas. Even they have flaws, they are great concepts :)
Me too! I love all FF series (except X, I hate X) and I'm super engaged into the story of xiii, I found the single characters path interesting and all the story in between I think it's really deep and "final fantasy style". Sometimes I think the hate towards this title it's bios :(
11:10 Now that you showed the cover of my favourite game, I kinda wanna hear you talk about it in more detail. Would be interesting to hear your opinion on it.
Sick bleached highlights bruh. Also, pretty sure Ninja Gaiden 3 was president of the life ruiner's club. The disc was a literal fucking salt mine that when the case was opened, salt singularities encompassed the purchaser, drowning them in sodium and butt rock. ASS FUCKING AWFUL.
I died on "discount DIO"
I mean, Dio isn't even that interesting personality wise, he just has tons of flair.
And thats why a Dio without flair is worthless (why do the comments lack an edit button?)
Not to mention he showed the "Stand"s doing their trademark OLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLO (supposed to be Ora-Ora-Ora) when he compared the Origins to them.
For me one of the more dissapointing sequels was Warhammer 40K Dawn of War 2. Now here is the thing the game itself is pretty good and the campain is a lot better then the ones of the prequel but the actual gameplay in Multiplayer just plain sucks when compared to the previous game. Gone where the big battles where you would throw massive armies against each other and instead you only throw a couple of small squads against each other.
What's even worse is that this had to be the game they introduced the Tyranids what was just plain horseshit because with the very limited unitcap (100 max when each squad took up to 15 points of the cap) what just butcherd the entire feel of the Army. That and Orks also did not feel very orklike gone where the days where i can make the green tide was an actual possibility in the game and instead i got a couple of slugga boys, maybe some shootas, some Tank Bustas and Nobs instead of building just Sluggas for the fuck of it and to get as many Orks on the field to overrun my enemys.
The only armies that somewhat profited where Space Marines and Chaos Space Marines (and to an extend Eldars) because these Armies never opperated in giant armies of 100 or more squads (well Chaos does sometimes but not Chaos Space Marines) so it made the armies feel a bit more authentic but i still prefer the massive battles because they felt more fun in comparison. Also only having 2 game modes was fucking horseshit cause it's either take and hold what i don't like or Destruction with a single basebuilding that takes 3 minutes at max cap to destroy.
+Thor der Donnergott Ugh, and they also shifted around the interface. I remember it took me so long to figure out how to do some stuff that I could do in the first game in my sleep. Also, go Orks!
agreed. I really don't like DoW 2 even campaign wise.
but I find StarCraft 2 even more egregious.
I remember Perfect Dark Zero. People were hyping that up as the flagship title for the XBox 360 so much that even my Mom bought it for me based on word of mouth, even though I never mentioned my interest in it. I gave it a serious try, but I couldn't stand it. I kept asking myself, "Why does this just make me want to play Goldeneye instead?" I couldn't even get past the first level of Perfect Dark Zero purely from a design and performance perspective. When I saw those arrows pointing me where to go, I had to laugh. It was insulting.
I really like all three Dragon Age Games. DA2 is the weakest, but the characters were still great. I was generally surprised by some of the character stories in the game at well. "Has anyone seen Isabella? Where did she.... ISABELLA!!"
Sacred 3.
I loved the sacred series. Why didn't I bother to do one second of googling.
The hype took me.
+Nebula “Youji” Storm I saw Blind Guardian in concert the other day and we all had a moment of silence for the Sacred 3 that never was. Keep on questin', bruh.
*****
Yeah hopefully someone competent down the road can salvage the series but Keen games really wrecked the game's good will.
+Nebula “Youji” Storm I also bought this game. Thankfully I was in the mood for something terribly generic at the time.
Well, making the Genesis Sparkster song louder than the SNES one doesn't necessarily make it better than it... Both are pretty good, but it's more of a matter of taste than anything, and I (as well as some other people I know) do like the SNES Sparkster music better...
Oh and, the sprites on the SNES version aren't bigger, it's just the resolution that is lower, that makes the sprites seem bigger... And I can relate to the camera issues, that does make the game harder, but that aside I find that the game actually plays better than Genesis Sparkster (but not as good as Rocket Knight Adventures)
In SNES Sparkster you're much more manoeuvrable and the controls feel better... In Genesis Sparkster your only way to go faster and attack stronger is to rocket yourself, and when you do so you're kinda committed to that rocketting, and then you bounce around everywhere and get hit...
In SNES sparkster you're not stuck to just slashing and rocketing, you can also do the spin thingies with the L and R buttons that you can use to better control your horizontal movement and damage enemies...
+Ruko Michiharu Haha, I just prefer the genesis thump. The SNES Sparkster has a neat timpani sound, but when I listen to songs back to back I can't help but prefer the Genesis one!
Had SNES Sparkster not been so goddamned aggravating with its camera jenkyness, I might have liked it quite a bit more.
Eruption Well, it's as I said, it's more of a matter of 'taste' than a matter of one version of the music being better than the other...
And well, let's just say I'm a bit more forgiving of the camera jerkyness...
The moment he said "Let's talk Legaia 2" My heart sank. I loved the original, the second... eh... less so. :/
I feel like this never gets mentioned enough by game reviewers but I would definitely argue that Final Fantasy XIII-2 was a huge upgrade to the first Final Fantasy XIII. The biggest criticism of 13 being linear and basically Corridor Quest. Final Fantasy XIII-2 opens up each area to be much more Explorer based, that in tandem with the different planets and time zones makes a much more extensive and open-ended game to play. I would also argue that Final Fantasy XIII-2 refined the ATB system to be much more kinetic and fun than it was in the first XIII.
FFXIII-2 was the best game in the trilogy IMO. I platinumed all three, but I enjoyed FFXIII-2 the most...and Lightning Returns was the absolute worst.
@@kjb379 agreed! I was hyped for lightning returns and was sadly disappointed
...? Is that...Persona music?
Eruption is a Persona fan, he has made a couple of videos on the series too.
There are way worse FF sequels than 13, just look at shit like FF7 Dirge of Cerberus
***** I was just saying in terms of Final Fantasy because XIII really isnt a sequel. Although I somehow completely forgot XIII-2 and Lightning Returns were a thing while writing that comment. That said I havent played them or dont know much about them so I have no clue how bad they are.
Cake Loader "emos" even though only one of them is close to being emo and still isnt as emo as post KH Cloud, Squall, Neku, etc
+Cake Loader Emos grilling on their flying cars? Lmiao!! I laughed so hard.
Cool Zidane figure dude! I've heard some FFIX music in your videos. It is my favourite game and I really hope you'll make a video of it someday!
"And you're like, fuck!" Can't stop laughing. That is exactly my reaction. xD
"I hate dragon age two. a lot"
very many others seem to agree with that
I was not expecting Dragon Age 2 but it deserves to be there. Origin is one of my favorite games and all its sequels have been nothing like it... neither in gameplay nor in story telling. They are just dumbed down versions of hack n slash and dating simulator in a fantasy setting.
Love your videos! Keep up the good work! :D
I really like FF XIII, to this day. It is by no means a perfect game, but to me it was the first final fantasy I ever played, the first one for my entire generation really, and the reason I ever went back and played all the rest. One thing I don't get after all that is why it always gets compared to the other games in the series when really it never had any reason to be anything like the others. You got your recurring tropes alright, but after that each game is an entirely new artistic direction. And to be honest, starting from this and going back, I myself don't get why people praise 6, 7 and 10 so much, they really don't hold up and overall had as many questionable design, story and gameplay choices as XIII, even if they were revolutionary for the time. I guess that's it in the end, everyone just holds on to the one game they grew up with and when the next one doesn't directly follow up then you have to dislike it simply out of nostalgia. I was lucky enough to start with a full trilogy, but maybe I will too be a bitter old man complaining about how the next entry sucks, maybe everyone will be with the new VII remake, who knows? Still, great list besides that, sorry about the rant.
In the future, could you not add the Arcadea people without putting that it's a crossover in the title? I don't really like them as much as you. The DMC2 guy was so boring.
+Arcadea Yes, definitely! I really just came in expecting an Eruption video, and the DMC part just took me by complete surprise.
+Isthecakereallyalie more like DMC2 is boring. The guy was fine. Valid point, otherwise.
+Isthecakereallyalie I was under the impression that this whole ARCADEA makeover was that the idea is the 4 of them would intermingle and collab all the time. I could have taken that the wrong way. And for my two cents, I think saying "top 10" anything is a joke as you are implying the order means that those below or above in the list as defacto better/worse when just saying "here is a list of games we think did blank good/bad" would spark less controversy.
I didn't even know Legaia 2 existed until you told me about it. God it looks like the most forgettable game ever LOL
The PSO sounds/music you use make me feel nostalgic...Had some great times on that game.
Do u possibly remember the name of that track? I wanna find it, sounds cool
This song again at 12:00, someone knows the name? I've never played Final Fantasy, so I don't have a clue.
Thanks
Thank you! DRAGON AGE 2 is GARBAGE!
DA2 was the first legal Rated M Game I bought. It literally came out on my 17th birthday!
I hated this game, Origins was so much better
Love the acknowledgement of godhad. I played it recently and I honestly believe it is the best brawler ever made.
In Final Fantasy XIII, it’s game over if the main character gets killed in battle. Earlier games did not have that rule.
I didn't like the first Dragon Age game. I'm not interested in being a babysitter. Well, scratch that. I'm perfectly willing to babysit Nanako from P4. But for the most part, the idea of trying to please NPCs in a game just annoys me. Suck it up. We're trying to save the world here. We don't have to like each other.
+Samcwic I loved it, but only because I'm a manipulative bastard who didn't had enough love growing up.
Dragon age 2 sucked, I agree with that.
I liked Dragon Age 2 much more than Inquisition, mainly because I like playing as healer, but in Inquisition, they basically removed healing spells and the revival spell can be nice but since you can revive characters manually it isn't needed. Also, I never really experienced many problems in DA2, maybe because I played it on the ps3, I'm not sure how the PC version is.
Maybe it's just me, but I didn't find FFXIII boring, even the combat. I liked the strategy in making sure you had good paradigms set up.
I'm so fucking happy someone finally talked about Legend of Legaia and the disappointment of Legaia 2. One of my favorite games, thank you Austin :D
If DA2 did anything right, it was the combat, I liked it faster paced, other than that.. not fun, I replayed DA:O multiple times, DA2, just once and I never felt the need to go back.
But then again.. after watching this video.. I might remember the combat system wrong, eh, I dunno.
I bought FF13 years later in 2015 and quit playing it after 2 hours. Never turned it on again. Lost Odyssey was great though, as was Resonance of Fate once you get the hang of how the combat works.
And wow.... Seeing that footage of Legend of Legaia brought back an old, old memory of my mom renting the game from Blockbuster and kid me being super frustrated by the game.
im trying so hard to remember but whats that song at the end of the video?
Nah, SNES sparkster is better then genesis.
Rocket knight adventures shits on em both though.
That song at the end of the video, what game is that from?
What's the song playing during the final fantasy bit?
I love ff13, it's amazing how much it split the public, for what i generally see it disappointed more people than the ones who liked it but you know what, it's still one of my favorites FFs, i also love how people actually likes FF12 that i found to be truly the worst thing happened to the franchise after X-2, btw yeah, lost odyssey is great
FF12 had such a great setting and world, and was really hurt by having a useless and pointless protagonist.
Ninja Gaiden 3 is a better game than Devil's Third, just saiyan.
Man... Castlevania 64 was the first Castlevania game I ever played. And I'm ashamed to admit at the time I loved it.
Dude when I hear talk about games like bomberman and it being a huge part of your life makes me so happy. We are of the same exact mindset
I'm probably one of the few that really liked DA2. I am well aware of all its flaws and the 1st and 3rd are superior but this was a game I weirdly got attached to playing it all summer back in high school. I literally played it in every way possible with every possible classes and romanced everyone I possibly could
I liked FF 13-2 quite a bit, but that's because I like monster raising stuff, and the DLC is pretty cool. Thus, I'd only ever suggest the PC version, should your PC be able to run it.
DA2 was better, gameplay-wise. Aside from crud level design, and that wave spawning, obviously. Those are overall design issues, but the actual gameplay itself plays way better. Something went wrong during development, obviously. Horribly wrong.
Ckarasu 1. a shit game doesn't get better purely because of the platform.
2. in no way was gameplay better. unless you like brainless combat
Dragon Age 2's game play was so _good_ they didn't show any of it because everyone who preordered it would have dropped their preorder. DAO was a spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights, it was a cRPG with depth and required a bit of strategy to get through the harder encounters. DA2 was like Dynasty Warriors the RPG, a game none of us that loved the original and expected a cRPG, wanted.
Origins had many dozens of different places to go and fight, everything looked great and different.
DA2 had a couple environments and repeated the same maps in them over and over.
Origins had meaningful battles with challenging enemy placements.
DA2 had hoard mode with spamming AOEs.
Not all of us like Dynasty Warriors.
legaia 2 is such a guilty pleasure. objectively it's really bad....and heavy on the cheese. but god damn it if I don't love it
Dang, I really like Perfect Dark 0, DMC2, and FF13, and Dragon Age 2 lmao
Im like the 1 person that loves ff13 lol woe is me
+Aaron Calloway srry to disappoint you but you're not alone, I did like ffXIII, fell in love with XIII-2, and married XIII-3
As much as I don't care for FF13 all that much when compared to earlier entries like... 9, 6, etc, most of the "reviews" of why it's bad are just dripping with levels of nostalgia that make me unable to take them seriously.
I've played all of the main titles of the FF series including several years with FF11, but I can't for the life of me see what's so fundamentally bad about 13. Sure, it's not a game that revolutionizes the JRPG, but the removal of a cumbersome world map and random battles is a design choices that I strongly agree with. And that's just it, there's just a difference in the approach that square enix took in searching for what players want. If their data and metrics from player feedback and designer testing indicated that Fast Travel and a more streamlined narrative were the way players were trending, then no comment section echo chamber has the power to convince me otherwise.
And then to dump on character design with that throwaway comment on Lightning, really? Turn down the bias, Square Enix has some of the most consistent character development across their titles, to make the claim that any of their characters are flat shows a serious case of "never played the game." ALL of these games are fundamentally about overcoming internal struggles juxtaposed against a grand scheme conflict. To say that Cloud's struggle as an amnesiac trying to piece together a broken past against industrial tyranny is objectively superior or inferior to Lightning's quest to save the life of her sister and affirm her belief in her way of life is folly, all you can have here is opinion. And calling EITHER of their narratives flat or without narrative merit is just plain wrong. Dismissing a cast of characters for any of the FF titles as a whole is demonstrably biased, as the quality of writing has not diminished, it's only changed in the methods of delivery.
I want to watch that P.T. and the Uncanny video on the end slate, but there's no link and i don't know who that person is, so I can't find it. I am very annoyed. >o
The hell is that closing tune? I know it from somewhere, but I can't place it.
I liked castlevania 64
it was clunky and death was rarely because you fucked up but instead because the shit controls wouldn't co-operate. that being said the game having 3 bonus characters was cool, it wasn't horrible in trying to be unique and the second castlevania 64 game was a lot better tightening the controls, boosting the speed of combat, limiting the amount of REQUIRED platforming, and fixing a lot of the major camera screw issues of the first game.
Edward Wilson the controls were a tad clunky and to be fair I played with save states so death didn't mean much to me but I still had an enjoyable time
Edward Wilson And I would disagree I feel like the combat speed was fine
Have you played it since your childhood ended? I found lots of games amazing as a kid, but today.... they don't do it for me. Perhaps it's nostalgia goggles speaking?
yinyang I never played it in my childhood actually I just thought it looked like fun and hadn't seen any reviews of it
Regarding FFXIII:
Auto-attack? What are you even on about. You have to select attack!
You do get "experience" and levels with that you get at least 2 paradigm for new characters. You earn Crystogen & Technical points to grow your characters.
You want minigames and other distractions from the main game? Makes me wonder why you think XII was so great because I'm pretty damn sure there were like 2 minigames in that whole game.
Pulse has plenty to do. From the sound of it, it's like you didn't even get that far. Cid is particularly tough leaving me to doubt. You can't just brush the game off with a lie about it being auto-battle after experiencing that. It takes active strategy *to say the least*.
7:05 actually, having just played through devil may cry 1 and 2 recently, its the opposite; In devil may cry 1 your guns will not extend your combo (unless you are juggling an enemy, I find, but even that is unsure with how much the guns actually suck in 1) in devil may cry 2, as LONG as you are shooting, your combo will stay exactly at the level where it was, but will not increase; In fact, its the only way to keep your combo going with how fast it goes away, you need to constantly be dealing damage, either melee or ranged, or else its gone.
Putting that Deadly Premonition tune in there makes me happy! :'J
I just realized the first 2 spots both have zero in their name. Coincidence? I THINK
yes
Pretty good list, I as soon as I saw the title I instantly thought "DMC 2"
Oh what a snorefest that was
It's so weird seeing Arcadea videos now. Nothing against the other guys, but Austin's content is so much better now on his own.
That ending theme had me in a PSO Music Coma.
The music at the end of the video sounds so familiar... anyone recognize it?
Glad you had DA2. Definitely my worst case of buyer's remorse, and taught me never to pre-order. Even if its a sequel to one of my favorite games ever. Also I liked Sonic 3D Blast as a dumb little boy. :\
whats the song at the end screen pso????
