I have the same Maxima and I love my car. I just had the O2 sensor replaced but the check engine light is still on. The mechanic wants me to drive it around to see if it goes away. What could it be? This is a new mechanic I took it to. Last week my car died on. The brake and battery light went on and I barely made it to a gas station. I had to have the car towed to a shop. The shop said it’s only the alternator. I was like ok but then he calls me and tells me there is an issue with the car. He smelled something burning. He asked me if I had smelled that when the car died. I said of course not. Then he says well we are going to have to check it and he didn’t know how much it was going to cost. I decided to take my car home. He charged me $700 just for the alternator. my car was trembling and the check engine light was on which didn’t happen before. It died on me again and this time some smoke came from under the hood. I had it towed to another mechanic. They’ve been checking it thoroughly and they found melted wires in the back of the engine. They think the previous mechanic did something wrong because obviously I would’ve smelled the burning right away. It’s been a nightmare. The new mechanic replaced the ignition coils as well. Is it possible the previous mechanic installed the wrong alternator or he replaced it the wrong way causing a short circuit? I would really appreciate your advice

I don't think he put in the wrong alternator, but it is possible the wires were not routed correctly. They may have been touching the exhaust manifold and the heat from that would melt the wires. Sorry to hear you were going through so much with the repairs.

I don’t think u have to remove the fan and upper radiator hose to remove the o2 sensor. Disconnect sensor, put your tool on it and break it loose

That is Bank 02 Sensor 01. That is the upstream sensor that comes before the second catalytic converter. It’s closest to the number 2 cylinder .
