His Holiness Sivarama Swami is the ISKCON GBC representative for Hungary, Turkey, co-GBC for Romania and an initiating spiritual master in ISKCON.
Maharaja was born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1949. His family emigrated to Canada during the failed 1956 Hungarian revolution.
In 1970 he came in contact with Srila Prabhupada via his transcendental books. He became an initiated disciple of Srila Prabhupada in 1973 and accepted the renounced order of life in 1979. After serving ISKCON in both Canada and the USA - where he opened and managed temples - Sivarama Swami moved to the UK, where he served as the temple president at Caitanya College and the UK national sankirtana leader.
He was requested to accept the responsibility of GBC member in 1986 while serving in the UK. He later became GBC for Hungary, having spent time preaching there since 1987.

Very powerful! 1994 I visited New Vraja dhama for the frist time, when it was in the beginning stage. Sivarama Swami lived together with the devotees a very austere life giving all credit to his diciples. I am very happy that I happened to take breakfast-prasadam together with him. At the same time I am sad that I felt not to be ready to follow in a strict way. So I must admit that until today Sivarama Swami is one of my main sources of spiritual inspiration. He strictly follows in the footsteps of Shrila Prabhupada. Therfore he is very successful in establishing Krishna-consciousness in Hungary and other countries.

Thank you for hosting this event! Wonderful video and great points made by presenting debators and Maharaj. I particularly liked Maharaj's argument on following rules and regulations. It's a fact that following the rules and regulations may not necessarily be enjoyable at first because it's directly opposed to our conditioned nature. But through the practice of rules and regulations as per scriptural injunction (vaidhi sadhana) one may eventually (and hopefully) obtain their own personal greed for the goal, no longer depending solely on "scripture says so, therefore I must", at which point it will come from a place of pure spontaneity (raganuga sadhana)

You are your own Spiritual Master, My Brother. Simply pray and mediate in the ways that feel right for you, and look within and find your own Enlightenment.
Non of this makes any sense. If we all, have indeed, lived many, many, lifetimes and done goodness only knows what in between lifetimes, then every last one of us have that knowledge and enlightenment embedded deep within our Consciousness, already. It's merely, learning and practicing that technic - whatever it may be - that can take us there. If it's chanting Krishna's name repeatedly in some type of mantra then fine. If it's something else or a combination of things, then fine.
Personally, I find that going out and connecting with nature is one good, way to connect with the Supreme. Merely, connect with what the Supreme has brought into existence, and of which It's Energies Permeate, Everywhere.
If after all that, you still, feel the need to have some Spiritual "Master" or "Leader" then off course, the choice is up to you.
      Namaste. My Best. Out.

Prasanta Kumar Barman; Satyemeva Jayete. what valid evidence is there that Ram and Krishna were incarnations of Vishnu. NONE! Sri Ram in rage and revenge murdered Ravana for Sita haran. Krishna Started as a neighborhood CHORE/ 'Makhan chore' encouraged Arjun to ydh and personally assisted the greedy Pandavas in mass murdering the 100 Kauravas, all claimed by Ved Vyas to be sons of Dhritarashtra and Gandhari, statistically and biologically zhoot and bakwas. Why would anyone worship a violent accomplice in mass murder? Think use commonsense unless you want to remain a murk worshiping 1) Hanuman, a flying monkey without wings, aeronautically zhoot, and bakwas. 2) Ganpathi, a composite MURDA to remove live obstacles. Good luck. Do not blindly follow the legacy beliefs of the past. Use your own observation and common sense. Best wishes Bandhu.

Spiritual Master guides the student towards elevation in bhakti( devotion) so we can learn the way to love and serve Krsna unconditionally. Only by trying to perform devotion by reading books or doing speculation is not possible.
As real bhaktas only sleep for two hours, chant lakhs of holy names, see Krsna everywhere. Not possible for us😊😊.
Similarly to understand the infinite large ocean of spirituality, through our limited minds is not possible.
We can find spiritual master by simply and humbly surrendering to Krsna for having the association of spiritual master. Firstly try to associate with devotees and come to iskcon. Understand the philosophy, ask questions and you will find your Spiritual Master. " Be humble because who want to be cheated gets cheated" 😊😊
To understand the shastras and get the mercy of lord can only be possible by having mercy of our spiritual master and devotees.
And Spiritual Master is very necessary in ones life.
Even 99 percent people don't know the ABCD's from their birth.
How can one expect to discover about the supreme truth by his her own mind?
    Hare Krsna

The process shall be longer, but a devotee who deters the material influence shall be able to arrive to that state of mind sooner. Krishnou Krishnou prabhu tumi hey Jana

I was quite disappointed with the manner in which many of these questions were dealt with. It is stifling an opposing perspective rather than inviting one.
For instance, at the very mention of Harry Potter and JK Rowling, instead of allowing the individual to express the point that Rowling found work according to her nature (something the structure of varnashrama may not have allowed), the Swami chose to focus on a rather irrelevant point that JK Rowling is "fooling" innocent children by stories of Fantasy.
While this is completely irrelevant and is actually unfairly dismissing the point the questioner is making, the Swami's understanding of the book itself is questionable. Harry Potter is known to be a deeply religious book with almost Christian undertones.

Even today we are facing discrimination because born from tribes and dalits.
We hope it (castism, discrimination, untochability, feeling of upper&lower caste )will abolishes in end of this 21st century..

I randomly picked a spot and hear Maharaja talking about wearing a dhoti is being mentioned. Is that what you mean by "The Great Debate". Kula Shekhar prabhu is right, the guru must be self realised.
The foremost qualication of guru is that the guru needs to be a Tattva Darshi (BG 4.34) i.e. a self realised person. Naam and Naami are identical i.e. non different. So when a guru is self realised i.e. he has realised his relation with krishna and has krishna in his heart, bound by the rope of love only than he can give real naam because he really has Krishna so he can give it. When a guru is not self realised he cannot actualy give harinaam, it's just air blowing in the ear! You all are being misguided, guru MUST be self realised!

The answer to the first question is based on tangible result concerned with tangible object. When we come to an imaginary concept like "God" and especially the Krishna Consciousness movement, Arjuna was guided to perform the activity based on birth rights surrendering towards Krishna. But, as far as present situation is concern we have no such mystical personality to surrender. So whatsoever activity we will perform will lead to hallunicination or destruction of the mind's frame.

Is it authentic for HH Swami to be initiating his own disciples instead of initiating on behalf of Srila Prabhupada? SP is the initiating guru for ISKCON and still is, through his books. Otherwise, despite Swami's obvious intelligence, he should not be taking disciples of his own unless he has completely transcended his own material desires by devotion to Krishna he will not be able to process his disciples' karma ( remove sins) and which according to SP himself, is greatly offensive and has grave consequences all round... Perhaps nowadays he does initiate on behalf of Prabhupada.,,, or not.
By personal experience, everyone will know, as HH SS himself often states.
Does this spiritual master's presence infuse his surroundings with Krishna's peace and bliss?

I found that the Swami often didn't let the person inquiring finish their sentence which was a little frustrating. And I really don't see how reading Harry Potter is a problem exploring language and creativity, it's not as if they cant read The Gita as well. We are as humans able to do loads of things and eventually channel our energies to self realisation. A broad reading can be useful for expanding our capabilities.

We know that the utopian idealism of the Krishna movement like communism can never be achieved. Rules can never impose perfection and with mankind, there will never be perfection or complete liberation. This human dilemma is exactly why Christ brings a solution that does not require 'perfection' . Unfortunately, the nature of the 'Swami' is coloured by his Jewishness as the Bible states they are stiff-necked stubborn and display their version of religion with an intransigent conceit. Sadly the Krishna solution is duality presented here finally as 'all matter is evil' and therefore some 'escape' from life is a solution. Ridiculous.

The one thing I find wrong with this exercise of playing devils advocate, this that the swami here, refuses to allow the other individual to fully, develop their thought. He's always, cutting them off midway. Why even, bother with the exercise at all, if that's how it's going to be performed. Let the person develop and express the thought FULLY, then respond to it. Thank You.

I think Swami is equating man made laws and rules with what is imagined to be god rules/laws etc. The question in debate is not what and how man made laws/rules are cause we all know what they are all about, the question that two gentlemen were eluding to supposedly pointing towards how do we know what is god made and what isnt? At the end of the day it is being preached by swamis like him who are just like us ( the human ).

India became Buddhist because it was a class struggle against Hindu Brahminism by the lower castes the untouchables and its rigid caste system, which the Krishna movement also follows. Christianity came first as a belief in one God and not created as a national political identity.

      @muktacarita Před 7 měsíci

Why are you speaking without knowledge? the Hare Krsna movement does not follow the caste system. The caste system believes that if your father is a Brahmin then you are also a Brahmin, that is completely rejected in the Bhagavad-gita which teaches that you are a Brahmin by quality and work only not by birth, and that is what the Hare Krsna movement follows.

I follow up Siva Rama Swami debates and classes; he is an inspiration to me in many ways, even though I am initiated by him. And in fact, his example as a preacher is worth to follow - I myself do it.
However, Maharaja, with all due respect that he has accrued, doesn’t have the qualifications to advise on sexual therapy matters. First of all, he is a sannyasi; and as such he has made a vow about sexual issues: he can’t speak about it he can’t think about it; nor can he engage in it. So, by definition he shouldn’t be giving advice. Asking a sannyasi about sexual therapy issues is like asking a medical doctor to solve all your engineering problems only because he is medical doctor. Ludicrous indeed.
Of course, sannyasis will always respond in the simplistic way that Siva Rama Swami does. The problem is that a very tiny minority of devotees will be renunciants with no problem in giving up sexual activity. But the obvious issue here is that the “tiny minority” (sanyasis) can’t expect the vast majority to live by the highly restrained lifestyle that renunciants do. Again, that’s ludicrous.
What he is right about is that as we get older, devotees should begin to enter into a renunciant frame of mind, specifically about sexual matters. As we grow older the stamina of males is effectively reduced to almost nil. Hence, biologically the body is asking for abstinence from sexual engagement altogether.
In general, and he is right about this, we should not over-indulge in sex; yet at the same time, people have differing needs - especially regarding their sexual appetites. That’s one of the main reasons people do get married. Preaching to them to live like celibates will only destroy their marriages or at least put them in very high risk of.
The moral of the story: Don’t ask sannyasis about your sex problems or marriage problems. They can’t help you; and most of what they will say will probably make matters worse. If you want advice about self-realization, then, by all means, sannyasis should be able to help.

Swami has a good logic and common sense. Yet Shri Krishna was just a divine aspect, the incarnation of Shri Vishnu. Divinity is much more than one aspect. Teaching only one aspect of the divinity doesn't really give a more global view or all the incarnations/avatars that took birth along the spiritual history of human kind. Learning the values of Bhagavatgita or any other form of spirituality is a good thing anyway, yet not everything. Peace!

37:20 - 37:35 Seems like a very Abrhamaic way and approach to explaining this , just saying God said so , so follow. The approach to explain this is to detach the morality associated to the sex act and see what states you can achieve without excessive indulgence. Then it becomes a matter of choice and repercussions based on the choices made.. I do not think any scripture restricts sex for pro-creation only. Every argument of hers was very very deep in nature, and it was slightly trivialized by laughter around.

I don't think I could follow this path, as some of it's basic concepts make no sense to me, at all. Absolutely no one can prevent anyone else, from connecting with the Supreme. That is totally and absolutely, up to you, yourself. To me, using these gurus and swamis and so forth, to get to God, seems to be no different than what the Christian Catholic Church does regarding the Pope, which Protestants completely, reject. I'm not saying that you can't learn something from these people but they should never be seen as go betweens or facilitators, as if you are utterly, incapable yourself.
Also, what's with all these people being men, as well? That is so, utterly, unspiritual to me. The Daughters of the Supreme are Divine Beings as well, with Highly, Spiritual and Enlightened Perspectives to bring to the table, also. They bring forth the Female Side of the Godhead, which is equally, important for us to be aware of.
    Just something to consider.

The Swami is a bit arrogant. He is self-deceived if he really thinks he knows the absolute truth. He doesn't understand what dogma is. Dogma is not laws of the state or living according to your parents' rules. It is a set of principles laid down by an authority as incontrovertibly true. That is exactly what Srila Prabhupada taught and is what he also preaches: no meat, no sex for pleasure, no alcohol and coffee, and chant for several hours a day. I really dislike watching older people indoctrinate younger people with false notions.

All are hypocrites who have not gone vegan yet. The general idea of following an individual and subscribing to religion is for the non-thinking sheep.

17:15 the man say :"why Hare Krishna and not other religion" Swami says" everything is authentic if you go through the proper process" ..NOPE ..nothing is authentic if it does not go through Jesus Christ , all other process is demonic paths ,they do not lead you to the same goal . 17:45 Swami says : "if you do the right thing than you will see the results" well.. you will indeed see the results but given to you by demons not the true God .
Swami: "if you want to know God and love him than you chant Hare Krishna" 20:00 , well NO... if you want to know God and love him, than you go through Jesus Christ "no one comes to the father but through me" -Jesus says . How hard is to get that to your minds people! that you either follow what Jesus say, or you follow some bogus gurus like Prabhupada and his disciples, there is NO compatibility between the two . Who is greater authority to you? Jesus or Prabhupada?? if you look closely, you will notice they do not speak the same thing , Jesus path is different than that of Caitanya and Prabhupada; Jesus do not teach you to bow down to idols and plants, he does not teach you 4 regs, he does NOT teach reincarnation , he does not say how God the father looks like, Jesus did not cite Hindu vedas but rather always referred to old testament..AND : he does NOT teach you to chant Hare Krishna!. This two "paths" do not lead to the same thing, rather one is leading to the truth and the other is leading to lies and damnation . After 11 years being in Hare Krishna i follow now Jesus Christ , Jesus is greater authority than Prabhupada or Caitanya .
