I have 500+ hours spent into this game on my PC and I'm never bored to play it again. Always trying to find new strategies by personalizing the levels with enemies multipliers, handicaps and other setups to make even more interesting and fun.

@@maltsutty well, there isn't much to change, other than increasing the numbers of enemies or make them more resistance or set the handicaps for more challenging ecc. Technically, it's just for making more points, based on how difficult can be with the handicaps and changes... and I'm still wondering: 1) Why they didn't put a scoreboard in this new Serious Sam game? In the other Serious games, there are leaderboards and scoreboards, but not in the new ones... 2) Why they didn't fix the broken maps where you can go outside of the walls easily? - (for example: in the France level called "One for the road", in the part where you use the giant mech to make your way through the land with enemies, instead of doing that: you can go near on the walls, sprint many times as you want and, luckily, you surpass the invisible walls and make your way through the entire level using the mech... it's really fun, I can guarantee, but again: the maps are too broken). - But, most of all: 3) Why isn't a versus mode yet? They say that if the game would sell more, they would implement this mode, but I don't think this game would get the attention that deserves because many players are not interested or are not good for this FPS Arena and this is so sad as nowadays the more popular games are the ones with things that we veteran players are not agree at all... Also, I'm not even tried the mods because I'm not used with this kind of things, but I guess that world belongs for those who have a lot of imagination. Anyway, these are just my opinions. Played it on serious difficulty first, then played around with the enemy multipliers for dozens of hours more. Unlike many devs, and gamers unfortunately, CroTeam understands what makes a game fun, really fun. I don't know how to quite verbalize it, but it feels like a very personal game made by the devs, if it makes sense. Nothing built '''just because'', nothing made just to sell more, just a devs honest vision about how the game is supposed to play. Sam is my childhood and this is an amazing game, and I hope more people get to play it ! And I'm happy you enjoyed it, also , a very good review! Dad showed me SS:TFE back in 2005 and I got to show him SS4 and him being a quake 3 and doom I elitist, he enjoyed it alot. To quate Todd Howard , "whatever is fun now, will be fun in 10, 50 years"(f3 2008 making of) .These types of games will always be fun, irregardless of the reviewers opinions. On a side note, I'm kinda sad CroTeam didnt experiment more with new Ip's, Talos Principle being one but I feel a team with this much talent ought to try more, new things, and I would support them. Sorry for the long comment, just a 4 in the morning thought :)
It seems our Sam history has a lot in common lol my dad also intro’d me to Sam and I eventually got him to give SAM3 a solid effort playthrough lol. And you’re absolutely right about Croteam embodying FUN in games. You can see the passion and evidence of funny inside jokes all throughout the franchise . They just do stuff other devs are probably forbidden to even attempt by executive teams and shareholders lol. And I also wish they’d attempt more original IP’s since they are immensely talented and creative and like you said - they nailed it with TALOS. Hopefully they’re cookin up something new to succeed Talos2 and Sam5. I’m thankful someone spoke up about this game… as silly, ridiculous and STUPID as the serious Sam games are, they’ll always hold a special place in my heart. I watched my father play this and max payne (how I found your channel) since I was a little kid. These games are awesome and I’ll always come back and replay them

SS4 is a good game on a fundamental level, it just has a pretty poorly designed campaign with badly optimised environments (and the goofiest villain design ever in Achriman). This shows in the modded levels, a lot of people who didn't enjoy SS4's campaign (me included) kept coming back to the game because custom levels showed that the game could actually be great, it was just the campaign that sucked. A personal favourite of mine is Adepti's Abode, that level is fantastic, really pretty and a lot of fun to explore and fight through. Siberian Mayhem improves the SS4 model significantly - the levels are way more fun, way more pretty (ESPECIALLY the survival levels, which look stunning) and generally feel like they have a lot more soul, and the new weapons are fun to use (the crossbow is way better than both the devastator and sniper imo, and the AK feels a lot better than the AR). The characters are also a lot more likeable in my opinion, despite spending far less time with them as SM is only 5 levels long. There's also some improvements to enemy behaviours and gibbing and general quality of life improvements that SS4 still hasn't been updated with and likely never will be at this point. For me, it is the superior version. I'd recommend it even for people who didn't like SS4, because it is essentially SS4 perfected.

The story was never an important factor for anyone not even the devs in the past with the previous SS games and it was mostly just pure shitposting. (Honestly the whole franchise is an entire shitpost LMFAO ((in a good way. I love every SS game.)) )
@@hellionglassocean Story-wise, the problem is that SS4's campaign had no idea what it wanted to be. Both SS4 and BFE clearly tried to have proper stories and characters, they wanted to develop things more than the previous games, and neither one worked. I personally quite like a move towards making Serious Sam have a proper story with interesting characters - not that I have anything against the ludicrous nature of the older games, such as in SS2 where it is deliberately very obvious that the campaign is nothing more than a set of conveniences and contrivances for you to kill things, but I have always felt the tone is at its best when it balances the absurd and the genuine. However, no SS game has really succeeded at making a real story. SS4 tried to have serious moments (pun not intended) but they never came off as genuine. Any attempts to play something straight and try to build an emotional impact was undercut by the fact that the rest of the time it tries way too hard to be funny - and fails pretty badly, SS4 is the least funny Serious Sam game in my opinion despite having an egregious amount of jokes and one-liners. The characters are just annoying to me and their dialogue is grating, so I couldn't give less of a shit what fate befalls them. They try to make Achriman an intimidating villain, but then make him look utterly ridiculous. Mental's horde is meant to be kind of silly, and the characters in the world acknowledge that this horrifying genocidal enemy is dumb and a bit goofy, but for the Big Bad they could have tried to make something genuinely impressive or monstrous - and they originally did, if you look at the concept art, but his far cooler original design didn't make it into the game. SM's story certainly isn't perfect - I only really cared about Ledov, because he's the only one who is actually voice acted competently, thanks to Gianni - but it is much better at finding the balance of comical vs serious and it just slips in jokes occasionally without trying too hard (not all of them land, but they don't make such a huge deal out of the jokes so it's not as aggravating when it's not funny). It's still only a good story "for a Serious Sam game" though, overall it's still pretty weak and mostly fails to establish interesting characters.
Thanks for this amazing video bro, really. SS4 is my favourite game from 2020 (I even got the collector's edition) and you perfectly shared the same thoughts I had with the game with my biggest complain being the performance and lack of polish on some areas. SS4 is a game that kinda shows it was stuck in development hell and Croteam just wanted to finish it but they still tried their best to deliver a nice experience and they did. I love how the game presents its world and story in a way where you can choose to take your time, explore, listen and read to understand the context or just ignore it and keep killing, it never gets in your way or interrupts your pace. The characters and interactions are hilarious and imo perfectly balanced because Sam shows that while he enjoys joking and delivering one liners, he can still talk like a normal human being and not turn anything in a joke like for example Duke Nukem Forever. And finally this is my hot take but I like modern Serious Sam, SS4 does have a better colour palette than BFE with different tones of green and it never gets old to me, the only complain is that they should add more Sci fi stuff like ships, enemy bases , etc (like Siberian Mayhem does). Is the game perfect? no its not but it certainly is not the piece of shit people say it is and it's kinda funny that despite getting so much hate, it still has a positive reception in the community and gaming in general with very positive reviews on steam (like 83% positive reviews) Sorry for the long comment but I just love talking about Serious Sam and it makes me really happy when I see someone talk about how underrated or overhated SS4 is.

I agree that the only legit complaint should’ve been the performance and granted it has its dips still on ps5 but I’m no framerate snob so a couple dips admidst all the carnage was no problem for me lol. I also agree about Sam being a great character , he has a lot more to say now but I also love that aside from the jokes he has a cough*serious* side . And don’t even get me started on those Color palattes ! I agree many beautiful spots in the game ! Makes me curious to see how things will look if they do indeed decide to switch to Unreal engine in future games !
For a game that was in development for 10 years with all of the effort and money as devs always promised from projects like Talos and some other indies it sure is a piece of dogshit 😂

I like 4th and 3rd parts for their esthethics, I can infinetly watch at gnares being ripped appart by minigun. Also these parts, including second one, are not frustrating as TFE or TSE, no stupid trolling or arenas where enemies spawn so slow that you can start sleeping while keeling them.
Super glad that you're happy with the game. When the game first came out my PC plainly wasn't powerful enough to handle it, so it took me about a year afterwards before I could even play it. This had the benefit of missing the game's rocky launch and lowering my expectations a bit from what I heard people talking about it, but when I did finally get to play it I was having a blast the entire time. I do understand the criticism with the game though and the story in particular doesn't entirely live up to the potential it had. Yeah, I know. "Who plays Serious Sam for the story?" Well I do. I grew up with this series, so when the game is advertised with a full-on story with prominent characters, you can damn well be sure I'm going to pay attention. As it is, I had a big, dumb grin the entire way through as if it was an 80s action film, but I have no doubt that the game's themes of heroism and hope could have been explored more. Just listen to the speeches from Lord Achriman and Bill Corwin (the radio speaker). Achriman's entire deal is crushing the hope of those that oppose him, so maybe having him get to someone like Rodriguez after Jones' death could have made the story a lot more meaningful. Hell, Brand's motivation is based on him losing hope that humanity can win the war, but this is barely explored. There's something great here, hidden under the surface. It just isn't allowed to come to the surface and bloom. It's one of the main reasons why I hope Croteam manages to get some better character animators and makes a sequel dealing with the Octanian threat. The Octanians are the most plot-relevant soldier-type enemies so far, and Siberian Mayhem especially shows that they have tons of potential for an interesting story. The Octifex Maximus (their leader) would be an excellent opportunity to introduce a morally gray villain to the series. But either way, this does not detract from my enjoyment of 4 as a whole. I apologize if this was a bit of a rant. Here's hoping you'll enjoy Siberian Mayhem as much as the rest of the community!

Fully agreed, story in series is plentiful and excellent! Sure, that's not a Bioshock of Half-Life lvl, but it still my favourite, it has a lot to learn, for example that your actions always have consequenses - bad AND (not OR) good in different ways, and you have to handle it by yourself. Or else, we may see that even the world has to die, Sam still stays a human - lover, brave, fighter, with humor, respects others and never stops until he'll reach his goals Love forever. There are borderline two extra games in SS4. *Enemy riding is extremely deep and works on many enemies and is worth its own vid. Werebulls, Pyromaniacs, Khnum, Biomechs major/minor, etc. Suddenly having infinite ammo, tons of HP, a higher vantage point, and stronger weapons changes everything. More powerful than dual wielding. But its very half baked. Crippling and then grabbing enemies in the short 5 second window is super hard, and you are usually surrounded and your ride dies instantly. Pyromaniacs are hilariously slow. Still glad they left it in. *Another vid: Enabling infinite ammo, flight, and invincibility allows you to explore the France map and has lots of little Easter eggs. It is really huge, all future segments are somewhat loaded in, and has infinite spawning enemies. Another half baked item left in.
I've just finished the game after 40 hours of playtime. And yes it was buggy and lots of stutter happened on release date, I couldn't even get over 40 FPS in 2020. Last month I gave it another shot after some updates, and must say, I really enjoyed the game. I love those improvements and really admire the effortness of the Croteam developers for tweaking the game. In comparison to Serious Sam 3, I prefer the new one which bring more fun and acceptable changes. Well, the series were parts of my childhood, and this time they did not let me down at all. I am happy to be one of their biggest fan. Hopefully you guys will enjoy this game too.
It's fantastic to see another serious fan of Serious Sam. I've been playing Sam since CroTeam first dropped him onto my hard drive. I missed Sam II and picked up Sam 3 when it came out. Only recently found out about 4 and Siberian Mayhem. So happy that he's still going.
There was this moment in the Castle Area, i was running from a bunch of Female Gnaar. I switched to my minigun, dual wielded them, and Made my way back through them turning them into bloody mush I love this game.
Yes that was definitely a high point in the game ! there is a gnaar section with dual BURNER RAYGUNS in Siberian mayhem that provides similar euphoria, highly recommended

Never played a serious sam game but always been a massive FPS player. Your video randomly popped up in the feed last week and convinced me to give it a try. I downloaded the GOG version of SS4 and I had a blast playing even bumped up to Hard! my only complaint is the downtime between fights lol finished siberian mayhem also and that's was a good game too! Less downtime inbetween fights. Bought TFE and TSE with fusion today while it's like 80% off for the Gold pack on steam. I'm looking forward to starting a run tomorrow. Thanks for vids!
I had some complaints about SS4 when it released. Now that i have been replaying it i realize how amazing it really is. The combat is the best its ever been and the soundtrack is absolutely amazing. I like the humor and story even if not perfect. It was just made to be fun and entertaining like in the old days games used to be.

I love this game so much, been playing this series since the first game but holy shit SS4 releasing was pure joy. It had the best pre-release hype, delivered on it the best, and is in general such a delightful salad of beauty and fun The feel is unparalleled, the maps are lovely, they even finally incorporated a long term antagonist and gave it a unique boss fight instead of a bullet sponge. Delightful game through and through.
I mean when the game first got released it was shit because all the bugs and glitches , but now the game is a masterpiece , there is nothing more relaxing than tearing up monsters into pieces , and I really like all the cutscenes in the game , it's full of funny jokes with the worst voice acting in History , idk if they intended to make the voice acting bad but it's funny as hell
They definitely intended for it, because CT doesn't give a damn about voice acting and story (look at even the previous games), and honestly, more power to them. Look at Serious Sam, you don't play it for story
I loved this game and Siberian Mayhem barring two things the settings and optimization were kind of a mess getting the game to run smoothly was a challenge and I really hate how skinny they made Sam.
TBH I totally agree that Serious Sam 4 is one of the most enjoyable part of the whole serious. Comparing it to Serious Sam 2 where I suffered a lot, this part, on the contrary, gave me a lot of fun even though it's always hilarious to see how Croatians boomers were trying to keep this game up to modern trends. thx for the vid!
While I agree that Sam 4 is underrated ( the best since second encounter classic), I feel like it has the same issues as BFE, just not as much: I don't care for the level design at all. I get that crap like COD and Battlefield popularized fighting in realistic, narrow, samey looking places. But before that , shooter maps were designed as an abstract maze with supplies and enemies to be found within. I miss that approach in both modern Sam and modern Doom.Those places are just not as good for the gameplay as everything looks the same. With old Sam, a screenshot is enough and you know which level it is from. Thats impossible with Sam 3 and 4. This plus other attempts at "modernizing" the game causes the game to not " feel" like Sam imho. I don't need upgrades, a story, NPCs, reloading, bland military weapons and so on. Hell, ever since the HD remaster of the classics, it doens't even really look like Sam anymore. Again, had tons of fun with the game, but I wish, Croteam would just go back to the style of the first two games, maybe make SLIGHT changes like headshots, and that's it. Second Encounter is still one of my favorite FPS ever, and I hope, the series will go back to that strength someday.
I definitely enjoyed Serious Sam 4 more than 3. It's just - still not quite Serious Sam in the end. Nothing will ever beat walking around in the first game, coming over that first grass area and you instantly get swarmed by kamikaze guys and what not. And it doesn't let up until the end, more or less. While SS4 MOSTLY gets back to this sort of gameplay, the realistic stuff still doesn't quite fit in with SS imo. I know lots of people feel the "realistic" stuff ruined SS3 and SS4, but I feel like it has its place also. I do hope SS5 or whatever we get next, just goes all in on the older school style of SS gameplay feel.
I don't know if I'd call it a "masterpiece " but I also really enjoyed this installment of SS. I played it on Steam deck, and I don't know if it's just the underpowered hardware, but I had to knock down every graphics setting to minimum to get anywhere near 60 fps. The texture load in was the most annoying part tho. Not sure if that's an issue on ps5. Overall it's a great time tho. 8/10.

@@maltsutty Thanks, really it is just practice, when I first started playing Serious Sam anytime there were Werebulls, Kleer, or Biomech majors I would replay those fights until I took no damage, using the knife for Kleer and Werebulls, and using only the pistols against the Biomechs. BTW there is no better feeling than taking on a hoard of werebulls with a knife and winning.
I love this game too but the reviews for it at launch are justified bc if you watch them the main gripe people had was the performance amd bugs. I bought this at launch and it was terrible. I gave it another chance after a few months after they patched it up and now i enjoy the hell out of it. On my ps5 at launch this game would constantly chug below 20 fps pretty much at every single big battle and enemies would just bug out all the time. Also crashed multiple times and i just gave up. Like i said tho, i love this game now, but if you bought this full price at launch you woulda made an entire different video and dropped likes so hard on those reviews that were warning people about paying full price for a broken game. Insanely hard likes. Likes so hard that we couldnt even come close to understanding them. Love your video tho and its great to see someone else who loves this game. Siberian mayhem is god tier too.

Serious Sam 4 is the "imma have fun blowing shit up" brother of Serious Sam 3. It properly makes stuff fun to use. BFE felt too grounded. The same way that the TFE was a technological marvel where the maps were vast and open and amazing looking and TSE said "i like this... make it bigger and more FUN" and added buffs like super speed and serious damage and just allowed you to kill mental's forces with whatever you wanted fast. Yes i am a serious sam fan how did you know?
Funny how this game has duel deagles and a combine harvester section, both things Next Encounter did. First coincidence probably but the harvester bit does feel a bit like a nod.
Thank you for sharing that, I did not know that! Unfortunately I only got to play a demo of next encounter from one of those “Official PlayStation Magazine” demo discs back in the day. But I loved it and played it so many times ! I would love for them to rerelease it or hell even faithfully remake it with new tech would be sweet
@@maltsutty Absolutely, it's a very overlooked Sam game, i suppose it's technically possible Nintendo could add it to their Online subscription library if they ever do GC games. The game plays very well on Dolphin emulator if you have the means for that, i remember modders tried to do a Next Encounter remake but I think that halted.

It's my least favourite in the series but the weakspots stuff is great, you only get that one shot kill on a werebull if you time it just right and hit all pellets on the head. Adds a whole new level to the shooting dance.
Ok I won't lie, this game looks like a lot of fun. I may have to seriously look into this. I feel I should just for history sake, but you think it's necessary to play some of the other serious same games all the way through before this one? I've played one of them with a friend a long time ago I think.
Oh bruv the game is LOADS of fun, I’m confident if you love the calculated chaotic fun of EDF games you will love the sam games! I wouldn’t say it’s absolutely necessary to play the trilogy before 4 because 4 is kinda it’s own self contained story. It is super fun to play the earlier games though as I feel they just get better with time. That’s not to say the original 3 are bad , because they totally aren’t they just all have their own style and feel to them and personally , my favourite was Serious Sam 3:BFE until 4 came out. I would just say either splurge and buy 4 orrrrrr maybe grab the Serious Sam Collection when it’s on sale (cuz it usually is) and playing those will 100% persuade you to buy 4 if you enjoy them

Serious Sam its different when compare with other Doom inspired games. Huge arena, horde of monsters that will make us play and feel it very unique. This game make quantity better than quality

@@gast128 if they gonna make Sam game on UE, I think they gonna heavily modify the engine to increase number of objects to render. So in the progress of tweaking and toying, the engineer should be able to find a way to handle it. Anyway that is still far day ^^...
I have a feeling people will come around on this game a bit more with time. TFE and TSE are still in a league of their own but 4 is fun in its own way. 4 is the best in the series for a pure power trip with how obscenely powerful dual wielding is.

I’ll be honest with you , I can’t remember encountering any bugs while playing . The performance kinda chugs in a few extra hectic spots but I didn’t have any crashing or random bugs during my repeat playthroughs. If you end up buying it lemme know how you like it, to me the game is pure fun 😁👍🔥💯

But just based on what I’ve heard there are still some parts that chug but it has gotten much better since release and the eventual standalone expansion Siberian Mayhem runs much better. I can’t comment on the PC unfortunately since I played it all on ps5 but I would assume it’d run better on the PC especially now that it’s been out for a while . But if a patch was put out lately I bet it would only get better (hopefully lol)
Funny enough, I was looking for a video about Serious Sam 4 since I thought about the game and wanted to know how it's holding these days. Great video, I agree with most of the things apart from two things. 1. The banter of the game - In my opinion the game in it's entirety is a joke fest. A few of them are funny like for example the "boat" scene but all and all I much more prefer the darker tone of Serious Sam 3. 2. The melee kills - I personally don't like them at all since they were almost a 100% taken from Serious Sam 3 and not changed a single bit. Even though the game itself didn't have them someone found them in the files and recreated them in a program.

I don't understand why this game got so much hate. Although the performance ia not perfect its frame dips are minor on consoles and the gameplat/gunplay is pure gold. I would give it an easy 8/10.
Combat is better than previous entries but the game seems also unfinished and unpolished with bugs; graphical glitches; empty sections; low fidelity cinematics and half baked ideas. I still liked it but it could be much better.

I have a monster rig and the game’s in the NVME. No matter what settings I pick the game runs at crisp 144 and hitches constantly. The gameplay between the hitches is great but damn is my experience totally ruined
I can understand the frustration. Having the game constantly stutter on the opening level of Sam 4 did not inspire confidence and I was kinda low key pissed . I haven’t tried Siberian Mayhem yet. I would be more mad if I didn’t pick it up on sale. I still think it’s a blast by itself. I got the frequency of shuddering to go down with some INI edits I found on Steam’s community page.

I am ready to watch. Serious Sam 4 is the worst Croteam has offered ever. Shotgun spread is bad for double barrel and single barrel shotguns and then later replaced by the auto shotgun excluding issues with the useless skill tree and dual wielding. Game looks worse too. Arenas are only meant to be played in the middle or beheaded kamikaze and other foes spawn into you. Issues this were a thing before but far less. People who played SS4 never played Serious Sam the first encounter and second, Serious Sam Encounters Xbox, Next Encounter nor noticed differences between HD and HD Collection which should have been called Fusion, a game based on Serious Sam 3 with wrong enemy speed for half a decade. Objectly subjectlive disagree - shotgun spread is god awful and the original Serious Sam Encounters, even HD and lastly the misunderstood Serious Sam 2 rule over SS4. SS2 nearly oversimplified the shotgun spread.
Man I gotta say you have good points and tbh you and many others are REALLY making me wanna get an Xbox for the exclusive Xbox sam games (especially 2). Weirdly enough I loved the shotgun spread it reminded me of classic dooms shotguns where the single barrel went horizontally and the SSG had the crazy spread

Siberian Mayhem fix alot of Bugs and they're actually fix and update the game, you haven't see the horror of the day 1 serious sam 4 patch, poor optimize, weird animation and stuff also the 72mb game file size during the release day.
You know people mess up sometimes. It is okay to forgive. Especially when they are such a small developing team. They tried to do a lot of things and their engine didn't support it, i am not saying it's not entirely their fault, it's just that they are trying their best. It's not like they don't care. So that is why I think SS4 is highly underrated because it is still a really good game only disliked because of day 1 bugs

After having played through the absolute abomination that is Halo Infinite, I went and gave Serious Sam 4 a try. Instantly, my love for gaming was restored thanks to this serious masterpiece. I didn't even care what the reviewers were saying. The moment I hopped into SS4, I was immediately having fun again. And that was in December 2021. Fast forward to October 2022, and I got to play Siberian Mayhem, which I enjoyed even more!
That’s what I love to hear dude !!! I was the same way when I even got into the first level I KNEW I was in for a good time. I like the modern inclusions like side missions and SAM perks but really that’s just icing on an already fun and tasty cake 🎂 😂🔥🔥🔥✅💯🏆💪 I honestly hope they never stop making Sam games , they can do side projects in the meantime but Sam is one of the last true FUN gaming protagonists!

I have 500+ hours spent into this game on my PC and I'm never bored to play it again.
Always trying to find new strategies by personalizing the levels with enemies multipliers, handicaps and other setups to make even more interesting and fun.

@@maltsutty well, there isn't much to change, other than increasing the numbers of enemies or make them more resistance or set the handicaps for more challenging ecc.
Technically, it's just for making more points, based on how difficult can be with the handicaps and changes... and I'm still wondering:
1) Why they didn't put a scoreboard in this new Serious Sam game?
In the other Serious games, there are leaderboards and scoreboards, but not in the new ones...
2) Why they didn't fix the broken maps where you can go outside of the walls easily?
- (for example: in the France level called "One for the road", in the part where you use the giant mech to make your way through the land with enemies, instead of doing that: you can go near on the walls, sprint many times as you want and, luckily, you surpass the invisible walls and make your way through the entire level using the mech... it's really fun, I can guarantee, but again: the maps are too broken). -
But, most of all:
3) Why isn't a versus mode yet?
They say that if the game would sell more, they would implement this mode, but I don't think this game would get the attention that deserves because many players are not interested or are not good for this FPS Arena and this is so sad as nowadays the more popular games are the ones with things that we veteran players are not agree at all...
Also, I'm not even tried the mods because I'm not used with this kind of things, but I guess that world belongs for those who have a lot of imagination.

Played it on serious difficulty first, then played around with the enemy multipliers for dozens of hours more. Unlike many devs, and gamers unfortunately, CroTeam understands what makes a game fun, really fun. I don't know how to quite verbalize it, but it feels like a very personal game made by the devs, if it makes sense. Nothing built '''just because'', nothing made just to sell more, just a devs honest vision about how the game is supposed to play. Sam is my childhood and this is an amazing game, and I hope more people get to play it ! And I'm happy you enjoyed it, also , a very good review! Dad showed me SS:TFE back in 2005 and I got to show him SS4 and him being a quake 3 and doom I elitist, he enjoyed it alot. To quate Todd Howard , "whatever is fun now, will be fun in 10, 50 years"(f3 2008 making of) .These types of games will always be fun, irregardless of the reviewers opinions. On a side note, I'm kinda sad CroTeam didnt experiment more with new Ip's, Talos Principle being one but I feel a team with this much talent ought to try more, new things, and I would support them. Sorry for the long comment, just a 4 in the morning thought :)
It seems our Sam history has a lot in common lol my dad also intro’d me to Sam and I eventually got him to give SAM3 a solid effort playthrough lol. And you’re absolutely right about Croteam embodying FUN in games. You can see the passion and evidence of funny inside jokes all throughout the franchise . They just do stuff other devs are probably forbidden to even attempt by executive teams and shareholders lol.
And I also wish they’d attempt more original IP’s since they are immensely talented and creative and like you said - they nailed it with TALOS. Hopefully they’re cookin up something new to succeed Talos2 and Sam5.

SS4 is a good game on a fundamental level, it just has a pretty poorly designed campaign with badly optimised environments (and the goofiest villain design ever in Achriman). This shows in the modded levels, a lot of people who didn't enjoy SS4's campaign (me included) kept coming back to the game because custom levels showed that the game could actually be great, it was just the campaign that sucked. A personal favourite of mine is Adepti's Abode, that level is fantastic, really pretty and a lot of fun to explore and fight through.
Siberian Mayhem improves the SS4 model significantly - the levels are way more fun, way more pretty (ESPECIALLY the survival levels, which look stunning) and generally feel like they have a lot more soul, and the new weapons are fun to use (the crossbow is way better than both the devastator and sniper imo, and the AK feels a lot better than the AR). The characters are also a lot more likeable in my opinion, despite spending far less time with them as SM is only 5 levels long. There's also some improvements to enemy behaviours and gibbing and general quality of life improvements that SS4 still hasn't been updated with and likely never will be at this point. For me, it is the superior version. I'd recommend it even for people who didn't like SS4, because it is essentially SS4 perfected.
@@sulphuric_glue4468 The villain and many aspects of the story itself were like that due to the whole franchise not really taking itself seriously in the slightest. The story was never an important factor for anyone not even the devs in the past with the previous SS games and it was mostly just pure shitposting. (Honestly the whole franchise is an entire shitpost LMFAO ((in a good way. I love every SS game.)) )
@@hellionglassocean Story-wise, the problem is that SS4's campaign had no idea what it wanted to be. Both SS4 and BFE clearly tried to have proper stories and characters, they wanted to develop things more than the previous games, and neither one worked. I personally quite like a move towards making Serious Sam have a proper story with interesting characters - not that I have anything against the ludicrous nature of the older games, such as in SS2 where it is deliberately very obvious that the campaign is nothing more than a set of conveniences and contrivances for you to kill things, but I have always felt the tone is at its best when it balances the absurd and the genuine. However, no SS game has really succeeded at making a real story.
SS4 tried to have serious moments (pun not intended) but they never came off as genuine. Any attempts to play something straight and try to build an emotional impact was undercut by the fact that the rest of the time it tries way too hard to be funny - and fails pretty badly, SS4 is the least funny Serious Sam game in my opinion despite having an egregious amount of jokes and one-liners. The characters are just annoying to me and their dialogue is grating, so I couldn't give less of a shit what fate befalls them. They try to make Achriman an intimidating villain, but then make him look utterly ridiculous. Mental's horde is meant to be kind of silly, and the characters in the world acknowledge that this horrifying genocidal enemy is dumb and a bit goofy, but for the Big Bad they could have tried to make something genuinely impressive or monstrous - and they originally did, if you look at the concept art, but his far cooler original design didn't make it into the game.
SM's story certainly isn't perfect - I only really cared about Ledov, because he's the only one who is actually voice acted competently, thanks to Gianni - but it is much better at finding the balance of comical vs serious and it just slips in jokes occasionally without trying too hard (not all of them land, but they don't make such a huge deal out of the jokes so it's not as aggravating when it's not funny). It's still only a good story "for a Serious Sam game" though, overall it's still pretty weak and mostly fails to establish interesting characters.

SS4 is my favourite game from 2020 (I even got the collector's edition) and you perfectly shared the same thoughts I had with the game with my biggest complain being the performance and lack of polish on some areas. SS4 is a game that kinda shows it was stuck in development hell and Croteam just wanted to finish it but they still tried their best to deliver a nice experience and they did. I love how the game presents its world and story in a way where you can choose to take your time, explore, listen and read to understand the context or just ignore it and keep killing, it never gets in your way or interrupts your pace. The characters and interactions are hilarious and imo perfectly balanced because Sam shows that while he enjoys joking and delivering one liners, he can still talk like a normal human being and not turn anything in a joke like for example Duke Nukem Forever. And finally this is my hot take but I like modern Serious Sam, SS4 does have a better colour palette than BFE with different tones of green and it never gets old to me, the only complain is that they should add more Sci fi stuff like ships, enemy bases , etc (like Siberian Mayhem does).
Is the game perfect? no its not but it certainly is not the piece of shit people say it is and it's kinda funny that despite getting so much hate, it still has a positive reception in the community and gaming in general with very positive reviews on steam (like 83% positive reviews)

I agree that the only legit complaint should’ve been the performance and granted it has its dips still on ps5 but I’m no framerate snob so a couple dips admidst all the carnage was no problem for me lol.
I also agree about Sam being a great character , he has a lot more to say now but I also love that aside from the jokes he has a cough*serious* side . And don’t even get me started on those Color palattes ! I agree many beautiful spots in the game ! Makes me curious to see how things will look if they do indeed decide to switch to Unreal engine in future games !

I like 4th and 3rd parts for their esthethics, I can infinetly watch at gnares being ripped appart by minigun. Also these parts, including second one, are not frustrating as TFE or TSE, no stupid trolling or arenas where enemies spawn so slow that you can start sleeping while keeling them.

Super glad that you're happy with the game. When the game first came out my PC plainly wasn't powerful enough to handle it, so it took me about a year afterwards before I could even play it. This had the benefit of missing the game's rocky launch and lowering my expectations a bit from what I heard people talking about it, but when I did finally get to play it I was having a blast the entire time.
I do understand the criticism with the game though and the story in particular doesn't entirely live up to the potential it had. Yeah, I know. "Who plays Serious Sam for the story?"
Well I do. I grew up with this series, so when the game is advertised with a full-on story with prominent characters, you can damn well be sure I'm going to pay attention. As it is, I had a big, dumb grin the entire way through as if it was an 80s action film, but I have no doubt that the game's themes of heroism and hope could have been explored more. Just listen to the speeches from Lord Achriman and Bill Corwin (the radio speaker). Achriman's entire deal is crushing the hope of those that oppose him, so maybe having him get to someone like Rodriguez after Jones' death could have made the story a lot more meaningful. Hell, Brand's motivation is based on him losing hope that humanity can win the war, but this is barely explored.
There's something great here, hidden under the surface. It just isn't allowed to come to the surface and bloom. It's one of the main reasons why I hope Croteam manages to get some better character animators and makes a sequel dealing with the Octanian threat. The Octanians are the most plot-relevant soldier-type enemies so far, and Siberian Mayhem especially shows that they have tons of potential for an interesting story. The Octifex Maximus (their leader) would be an excellent opportunity to introduce a morally gray villain to the series.
But either way, this does not detract from my enjoyment of 4 as a whole. I apologize if this was a bit of a rant. Here's hoping you'll enjoy Siberian Mayhem as much as the rest of the community!

Fully agreed, story in series is plentiful and excellent! Sure, that's not a Bioshock of Half-Life lvl, but it still my favourite, it has a lot to learn, for example that your actions always have consequenses - bad AND (not OR) good in different ways, and you have to handle it by yourself. Or else, we may see that even the world has to die, Sam still stays a human - lover, brave, fighter, with humor, respects others and never stops until he'll reach his goals

There are borderline two extra games in SS4.
*Enemy riding is extremely deep and works on many enemies and is worth its own vid. Werebulls, Pyromaniacs, Khnum, Biomechs major/minor, etc. Suddenly having infinite ammo, tons of HP, a higher vantage point, and stronger weapons changes everything. More powerful than dual wielding. But its very half baked. Crippling and then grabbing enemies in the short 5 second window is super hard, and you are usually surrounded and your ride dies instantly. Pyromaniacs are hilariously slow. Still glad they left it in.
*Another vid: Enabling infinite ammo, flight, and invincibility allows you to explore the France map and has lots of little Easter eggs. It is really huge, all future segments are somewhat loaded in, and has infinite spawning enemies. Another half baked item left in.
I've just finished the game after 40 hours of playtime. And yes it was buggy and lots of stutter happened on release date, I couldn't even get over 40 FPS in 2020. Last month I gave it another shot after some updates, and must say, I really enjoyed the game. I love those improvements and really admire the effortness of the Croteam developers for tweaking the game. In comparison to Serious Sam 3, I prefer the new one which bring more fun and acceptable changes. Well, the series were parts of my childhood, and this time they did not let me down at all. I am happy to be one of their biggest fan. Hopefully you guys will enjoy this game too.
It's fantastic to see another serious fan of Serious Sam. I've been playing Sam since CroTeam first dropped him onto my hard drive. I missed Sam II and picked up Sam 3 when it came out. Only recently found out about 4 and Siberian Mayhem. So happy that he's still going.
There was this moment in the Castle Area, i was running from a bunch of Female Gnaar. I switched to my minigun, dual wielded them, and Made my way back through them turning them into bloody mush I love this game.
Yes that was definitely a high point in the game ! there is a gnaar section with dual BURNER RAYGUNS in Siberian mayhem that provides similar euphoria, highly recommended

Never played a serious sam game but always been a massive FPS player. Your video randomly popped up in the feed last week and convinced me to give it a try. I downloaded the GOG version of SS4 and I had a blast playing even bumped up to Hard! my only complaint is the downtime between fights lol finished siberian mayhem also and that's was a good game too! Less downtime inbetween fights. Bought TFE and TSE with fusion today while it's like 80% off for the Gold pack on steam. I'm looking forward to starting a run tomorrow. Thanks for vids!
I had some complaints about SS4 when it released. Now that i have been replaying it i realize how amazing it really is. The combat is the best its ever been and the soundtrack is absolutely amazing.
I like the humor and story even if not perfect. It was just made to be fun and entertaining like in the old days games used to be.

I love this game so much, been playing this series since the first game but holy shit SS4 releasing was pure joy. It had the best pre-release hype, delivered on it the best, and is in general such a delightful salad of beauty and fun
The feel is unparalleled, the maps are lovely, they even finally incorporated a long term antagonist and gave it a unique boss fight instead of a bullet sponge. Delightful game through and through.
the physics of enemy dismemberment is satisfying and weapon is awesome...hope serious sam 5 will come out 😊😊
I mean when the game first got released it was shit because all the bugs and glitches , but now the game is a masterpiece , there is nothing more relaxing than tearing up monsters into pieces , and I really like all the cutscenes in the game , it's full of funny jokes with the worst voice acting in History , idk if they intended to make the voice acting bad but it's funny as hell
They definitely intended for it, because CT doesn't give a damn about voice acting and story (look at even the previous games), and honestly, more power to them. Look at Serious Sam, you don't play it for story
I loved this game and Siberian Mayhem barring two things the settings and optimization were kind of a mess getting the game to run smoothly was a challenge and I really hate how skinny they made Sam.

TBH I totally agree that Serious Sam 4 is one of the most enjoyable part of the whole serious. It was truly sad, seeing sam loose the people he knew and loved, this made me emotional
The more sad is, no matter how good he was fighting enemies, at the end he still lost pretty much everything (ending of ss3)

While I agree that Sam 4 is underrated ( the best since second encounter classic), I feel like it has the same issues as BFE, just not as much:
I don't care for the level design at all. I get that crap like COD and Battlefield popularized fighting in realistic, narrow, samey looking places. But before that , shooter maps were designed as an abstract maze with supplies and enemies to be found within. I miss that approach in both modern Sam and modern Doom.Those places are just not as good for the gameplay as everything looks the same. With old Sam, a screenshot is enough and you know which level it is from. Thats impossible with Sam 3 and 4. This plus other attempts at "modernizing" the game causes the game to not " feel" like Sam imho. I don't need upgrades, a story, NPCs, reloading, bland military weapons and so on. Hell, ever since the HD remaster of the classics, it doens't even really look like Sam anymore. Again, had tons of fun with the game, but I wish, Croteam would just go back to the style of the first two games, maybe make SLIGHT changes like headshots, and that's it. Second Encounter is still one of my favorite FPS ever, and I hope, the series will go back to that strength someday.
Agree, the game has its flaws, but most of them seem to be budget related. Had a really fun experience with this title, I almost lose my shoe though
I definitely enjoyed Serious Sam 4 more than 3. It's just - still not quite Serious Sam in the end. Nothing will ever beat walking around in the first game, coming over that first grass area and you instantly get swarmed by kamikaze guys and what not. And it doesn't let up until the end, more or less. While SS4 MOSTLY gets back to this sort of gameplay, the realistic stuff still doesn't quite fit in with SS imo. I know lots of people feel the "realistic" stuff ruined SS3 and SS4, but I feel like it has its place also. I do hope SS5 or whatever we get next, just goes all in on the older school style of SS gameplay feel.
I don't care what those critics say. Serious sam is my childhood and I will love it no matter what. Anyway nice review ❤
I don't know if I'd call it a "masterpiece " but I also really enjoyed this installment of SS. I played it on Steam deck, and I don't know if it's just the underpowered hardware, but I had to knock down every graphics setting to minimum to get anywhere near 60 fps. The texture load in was the most annoying part tho. Not sure if that's an issue on ps5. Overall it's a great time tho. 8/10.

Well I pre-ordered this game played it and quit, there were some graphical issue and a few other problems. I told myself that I will get back to after some patches, I have since forgot about it but this has reminded me to come back to it, thank you.

@@maltsutty Thanks, really it is just practice, when I first started playing Serious Sam anytime there were Werebulls, Kleer, or Biomech majors I would replay those fights until I took no damage, using the knife for Kleer and Werebulls, and using only the pistols against the Biomechs. BTW there is no better feeling than taking on a hoard of werebulls with a knife and winning.
I love this game too but the reviews for it at launch are justified bc if you watch them the main gripe people had was the performance amd bugs. I bought this at launch and it was terrible. I gave it another chance after a few months after they patched it up and now i enjoy the hell out of it. On my ps5 at launch this game would constantly chug below 20 fps pretty much at every single big battle and enemies would just bug out all the time. Also crashed multiple times and i just gave up. Like i said tho, i love this game now, but if you bought this full price at launch you woulda made an entire different video and dropped likes so hard on those reviews that were warning people about paying full price for a broken game. Insanely hard likes. Likes so hard that we couldnt even come close to understanding them. Love your video tho and its great to see someone else who loves this game. Siberian mayhem is god tier too.

Serious Sam 4 is the "imma have fun blowing shit up" brother of Serious Sam 3. It properly makes stuff fun to use. BFE felt too grounded. The same way that the TFE was a technological marvel where the maps were vast and open and amazing looking and TSE said "i like this... make it bigger and more FUN" and added buffs like super speed and serious damage and just allowed you to kill mental's forces with whatever you wanted fast. Yes i am a serious sam fan how did you know?
Funny how this game has duel deagles and a combine harvester section, both things Next Encounter did. First coincidence probably but the harvester bit does feel a bit like a nod.
Thank you for sharing that, I did not know that! Unfortunately I only got to play a demo of next encounter from one of those “Official PlayStation Magazine” demo discs back in the day. But I loved it and played it so many times ! I would love for them to rerelease it or hell even faithfully remake it with new tech would be sweet
@@maltsutty Absolutely, it's a very overlooked Sam game, i suppose it's technically possible Nintendo could add it to their Online subscription library if they ever do GC games.
The game plays very well on Dolphin emulator if you have the means for that, i remember modders tried to do a Next Encounter remake but I think that halted.

It's my least favourite in the series but the weakspots stuff is great, you only get that one shot kill on a werebull if you time it just right and hit all pellets on the head. Adds a whole new level to the shooting dance.
Ok I won't lie, this game looks like a lot of fun. I may have to seriously look into this. I feel I should just for history sake, but you think it's necessary to play some of the other serious same games all the way through before this one? I've played one of them with a friend a long time ago I think.
Oh bruv the game is LOADS of fun, I’m confident if you love the calculated chaotic fun of EDF games you will love the sam games! I wouldn’t say it’s absolutely necessary to play the trilogy before 4 because 4 is kinda it’s own self contained story. It is super fun to play the earlier games though as I feel they just get better with time.
That’s not to say the original 3 are bad , because they totally aren’t they just all have their own style and feel to them and personally , my favourite was Serious Sam 3:BFE until 4 came out. I would just say either splurge and buy 4 orrrrrr maybe grab the Serious Sam Collection when it’s on sale (cuz it usually is) and playing those will 100% persuade you to buy 4 if you enjoy them

Serious Sam its different when compare with other Doom inspired games. Huge arena, horde of monsters that will make us play and feel it very unique. This game make quantity better than quality

@@gast128 if they gonna make Sam game on UE, I think they gonna heavily modify the engine to increase number of objects to render. So in the progress of tweaking and toying, the engineer should be able to find a way to handle it. Anyway that is still far day ^^...
I have a feeling people will come around on this game a bit more with time.
TFE and TSE are still in a league of their own but 4 is fun in its own way. 4 is the best in the series for a pure power trip with how obscenely powerful dual wielding is.

I’ll be honest with you , I can’t remember encountering any bugs while playing . The performance kinda chugs in a few extra hectic spots but I didn’t have any crashing or random bugs during my repeat playthroughs. If you end up buying it lemme know how you like it, to me the game is pure fun 😁👍🔥💯

But just based on what I’ve heard there are still some parts that chug but it has gotten much better since release and the eventual standalone expansion Siberian Mayhem runs much better. Sorry I can’t be of more help 😓
How is the performance of the game in the latest patch.Last i played i had too many crashes so had to uninstall.
I can’t comment on the PC unfortunately since I played it all on ps5 but I would assume it’d run better on the PC especially now that it’s been out for a while . But if a patch was put out lately I bet it would only get better (hopefully lol)

Funny enough, I was looking for a video about Serious Sam 4 since I thought about the game and wanted to know how it's holding these days.
Great video, I agree with most of the things apart from two things.
1. The banter of the game - In my opinion the game in it's entirety is a joke fest. A few of them are funny like for example the "boat" scene but all and all I much more prefer the darker tone of Serious Sam 3.
2. The melee kills - I personally don't like them at all since they were almost a 100% taken from Serious Sam 3 and not changed a single bit. Even though the game itself didn't have them someone found them in the files and recreated them in a program.
I appreciate the well thought out comment!! I can totally agree some of the humour is cringe but maybe the fact that it was coming from Sam Stone elevated it for me lol I’m not too sure 🤪😂🤷♂️
And ya the melee kills could use a complete overhaul. I don’t need glory kill levels of brutality but some nice melee kills would enhance the game so much !

I don't understand why this game got so much hate. Although the performance ia not perfect its frame dips are minor on consoles and the gameplat/gunplay is pure gold. I would give it an easy 8/10.

Combat is better than previous entries but the game seems also unfinished and unpolished with bugs; graphical glitches; empty sections; low fidelity cinematics and half baked ideas. I still liked it but it could be much better.

I have a monster rig and the game’s in the NVME. No matter what settings I pick the game runs at crisp 144 and hitches constantly. The gameplay between the hitches is great but damn is my experience totally ruined
I can understand the frustration. Having the game constantly stutter on the opening level of Sam 4 did not inspire confidence and I was kinda low key pissed . I haven’t tried Siberian Mayhem yet. I would be more mad if I didn’t pick it up on sale. I still think it’s a blast by itself. I got the frequency of shuddering to go down with some INI edits I found on Steam’s community page.

I am ready to watch. Serious Sam 4 is the worst Croteam has offered ever. Shotgun spread is bad for double barrel and single barrel shotguns and then later replaced by the auto shotgun excluding issues with the useless skill tree and dual wielding. Game looks worse too.
Arenas are only meant to be played in the middle or beheaded kamikaze and other foes spawn into you. Issues this were a thing before but far less.
People who played SS4 never played Serious Sam the first encounter and second, Serious Sam Encounters Xbox, Next Encounter nor noticed differences between HD and HD Collection which should have been called Fusion, a game based on Serious Sam 3 with wrong enemy speed for half a decade.
Objectly subjectlive disagree - shotgun spread is god awful and the original Serious Sam Encounters, even HD and lastly the misunderstood Serious Sam 2 rule over SS4. SS2 nearly oversimplified the shotgun spread.
Man I gotta say you have good points and tbh you and many others are REALLY making me wanna get an Xbox for the exclusive Xbox sam games (especially 2). Weirdly enough I loved the shotgun spread it reminded me of classic dooms shotguns where the single barrel went horizontally and the SSG had the crazy spread

Siberian Mayhem fix alot of Bugs and they're actually fix and update the game, you haven't see the horror of the day 1 serious sam 4 patch, poor optimize, weird animation and stuff also the 72mb game file size during the release day.
yeah I remember that, I was laughing so hard when they delivered only the exe files.
You know people mess up sometimes. It is okay to forgive. Especially when they are such a small developing team. They tried to do a lot of things and their engine didn't support it, i am not saying it's not entirely their fault, it's just that they are trying their best. It's not like they don't care.
So that is why I think SS4 is highly underrated because it is still a really good game only disliked because of day 1 bugs

And again i love serious sam. I don't have any hate on the dev team. This is just to point out why the game is a giant mess at the first place.

After having played through the absolute abomination that is Halo Infinite, I went and gave Serious Sam 4 a try. Instantly, my love for gaming was restored thanks to this serious masterpiece. I didn't even care what the reviewers were saying. The moment I hopped into SS4, I was immediately having fun again. And that was in December 2021.
Fast forward to October 2022, and I got to play Siberian Mayhem, which I enjoyed even more!
That’s what I love to hear dude !!! I was the same way when I even got into the first level I KNEW I was in for a good time. I like the modern inclusions like side missions and SAM perks but really that’s just icing on an already fun and tasty cake 🎂 😂🔥🔥🔥✅💯🏆💪 I honestly hope they never stop making Sam games , they can do side projects in the meantime but Sam is one of the last true FUN gaming protagonists!

I can agree some of the enemies look stupid but to be honest I find it kind of charming. Like the female Gnaar (and the male too) looks so clueless and derpy while rapid waddling towards Sam . I cant help but laugh and smile when a hoard of them are coming at me. It almost needs a comedy sound effect for max cringe LOL . But i agree the dual shotguns just magically reloading looks silly but I can let that slide due to how they function in action! Anyway I thank you for watching AND sharing your opinion! 😁😁🙏👍👍
